A trope-y romance that's got a bit more depth than I expected. Jamie is a traveling nurse who specializes in mental health and Fitz is the grumpy firefighter she falls for. And he falls for her too. They are opposite in personality but they have similar struggles. And a crisis will change everything. I liked this for the banter, the humor, and the sensitivity. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A good read.

“He’s an earthquake—a force of nature. And I don’t stand a chance of surviving him."

oh my god, this book! buckle up for the angst and emotional journey that is From Air! the emotions, the chemistry, and the twists…chef’s kiss! I love it, and I’m thoroughly obsessed.

Jewel is a new-to-me author, and I cannot emphasize how much I love her writing style. the way she structures scenes and jumps in time are so natural and never left me feeling like I was missing anything. I felt the emotional tug-of-war and depth of longing within the characters. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about the merry-go-round of will-they-won’t-they, but it was done so well, and I honestly just couldn’t put it down.

the only “complaint” (if you can even call it that) I really have is that I wanted to experience Fitz actually processing his feelings and coming to terms with everything more than we did. these occurrences are implied and lightly portrayed, but I would have loved to see a little more of it. we had to heavily rely on Jamie’s empathy and understanding to accept Fitz where he was, and that’s not a bad thing; I just know getting a bit more from him and his pov would have been even more incredible.

I really wasn’t ready to leave, so I’m very excited for Maren’s story next!

Calvin & Jamie ❤️

🏥Jamie’s a travel nurse, with her first assignment at a psychiatric hospital in Missoula. The nurse that hired her has recommended accommodation in a house share, but when she gets there, it’s not just Will, who she was expecting, but also his two roommates Maren and Calvin. Oh, and Jamie’s room happens to be the outside cabin with no bathroom.

🔥Will’s only house rule is to forbid relationships between the housemates. Despite firefighter Calvin’s very firm stance of staying single, he’s drawn inexplicably to Jamie. She’s younger than him and he just doesn’t do relationships, but there’s no telling his heart any of this.

🛬When Jamie moves on to the next assignment, she’s not expecting things to continue but maybe fate has other plans for the couple.

📚Having read a good few of Jewel E Ann’s books, one thing I do know to expect is the unexpected. This story went to a place I wasn’t expecting. So much of Calvin and Jamie’s relationship reminded me of The Naked Fisherman, but this age gap felt a bit less hectic for me! I enjoyed the twists in this story, despite how sad they are.

Beautiful. Tragic. Heartbreaking. Quirky. Emotional. Captivating. Mind-blowing. Hilarious. Incredible.
Those are some words to describe this book.

This is the second book by Jewel that I’ve read so far and just like Sunday Morning, this book is captivating, beautiful, emotional and has so much depth.

Jewel is an incredible writer and Sunday Morning is one of my fave reads for this year so I had high expectations for this book and this book did not disappoint.

I cannot wait to read more by Jewel.

Reading about and learning about and experiencing the metamorphosis of Jamie and Fitz and their relationship, was truly enjoyable and enthralling.

I see myself re-reading this!

I highly recommend this!

Thank you NetGalley, Montlake and Jewel E. Ann for giving me an ARC of this incredible book.

**Top Read of 2024**
I don't have enough words to articulate my love for this book, it's absolutely mind-blowing. The story, the characters, the world—I'm completely hooked and can't stop thinking about them. It's incredibly addictive. SPECTACULAR!

Jamie and Fitz stole my heart from the first pages, Jamie is a fierce and sassy heroine, and Fitz is my grumpy damaged hero that you can't help but love. This couple is EVERYTHING, I LOVE THEM, their banter is off the charts, they made me laugh out loud, their electrifying chemistry is scorching hot, I adore them together and their deep and intense connection. The author doesn't make it easy for them, though, and their story is packed with angst. They broke my heart, but their story is heartbreakingly beautiful.

As always, this author includes unexpected twists that kept me on the edge of my seat, and it made it impossible to put the book down. I also love the emphasis on the found family trope and the endearing bonds formed between friends.

Jewel E. Ann never ceases to amaze me. Her talent is unmatched, and her books always evoke the deepest emotions in me. "From Air" is no exception—it's moving, unique, passionate, and emotional. It's everything I love in a romance. BRILLIANT! I'm obsessed and can't wait for more from this world. Get ready for a ride that will captivate all your senses and leave you breathless. A standing ovation for the author!

𝐎𝐡 my goodness, this story is full of witty banter and just the right amount of emotional turmoil. I can't get enough of Jewel E Ann's books; they're addictive and never fail to impress.

𝐉𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐞, a traveling nurse, finds herself falling for her grumpy roommate, Calvin Fitzgerald "Fitz." Despite his guarded nature, Fitz can't help but be drawn to Jamie's infectious spirit. Their contrasting approaches to dealing with their past traumas make for an incredible story. As much as Jamie was all sunshine and rainbows, she had a difficult life that eventually catches up with her. Witnessing their love story unfold is both fascinating and heart-wrenching as their pasts threaten to tear them apart.

𝐉𝐞𝐰𝐞𝐥 𝐄. 𝐀𝐧𝐧 really knows how to take readers on an emotional rollercoaster. "From Air" is a must-read for those who enjoy a romance with angst and good humor.

Thank you to Montlake for the ARC of this book! Overall, I really enjoyed it and it was a quick read. The story is set in Montana which I always enjoy. It is definitely a love story but there are some darker themes that are reminiscent of authors like Colleen Hoover, Jennifer Hartmann, Mia Sheridan and similar. You would likely enjoy this book if you enjoy those authors. It started a little slow for me but I felt like the ending was worth it. The main characters had some personal development that I enjoyed reading about and though they were an unlikely match, it felt like they were compatible. 4 stars for me!

This booooook, buckle UP! The author managed to perfectly balance flirty banter, emotion, angst, and heat flawlessly. I love when the MCs desperately try NOT to want each other but end up failing spectacularly. I loved every moment of Jamie and Fitz. I loved the side characters. I just fully loved this book.

Jaymes, a nurse specializing in psychiatric care, leaves her home state of Florida for Missoula where she will begin her career as a travel nurse for short term placements. Her living situation in Missoula is not what she expected with a room in a shed, a trek through the backyard to get to the bathroom, and two enigmatic and friendly roommates and one extremely grumpy one- Fitz. Warned to not bother making friends with the standoffish Fitz, Jaymes can’t help be drawn to him and senses more to him than the surly but handsome smoke jumper lets on. As the two interact, sparks fly and despite Fitz’s reluctance to open up emotionally, he can’t help but love their banter and the friendship they form. As life pulls them apart in different directions, danger and secrets come to light. Fitz and Jaymes both struggle with the idea of a future together and if being in love is worth the pain and hardship.

Wow. Just wow. I couldn’t put this down. I loooved this one. The banter! The chemistry! It was reminiscent of The Lost Fisherman but with characters that were more mature and established. The humor and friendships throughout kept the darker moments from getting too heavy. And those dark moments are a doozy. I wanted at times to shake Fitz and other times hug him. I wanted Jaymes to get her happy ending. Sometimes it felt like she pressured him too much to open up and change, but would he ever have if not? I love that all the people they surrounded themselves with were supportive, funny and pushed them to be and do better, especially Fitz.

Thank you to NetGalley and Jewel E. Ann for an advance copy of this book for review.

From Air is the 1st book in the new Wildfire Series by Jewel E. Ann and as with all of her books, I was quite excited to dive into this one. Surprisingly, and for the first time ever, I figured out what was going to happen before it happened. Maybe I’ve been reading her books for so long (I’ve read every single one) I know how she thinks so it was a foregone conclusion for me. That being said, it was still an enjoyable and well-written read. FYI, figuring it out before the end absolutely didn’t ruin it for me. I always emotionally connect with Jewel E. Ann’s characters. It’s her writing style that pulls me in and makes me always feel like I’ve known them all my life and it was no different with Jaymes and Fitz. In fact, I connected with all the supporting characters too--Will, Maren, Melissa and a bunch more. I found the smoke jumper aspect of this read quite interesting. And I think my favorite facet was the found family they found themselves in–that’s always one of my favorite tropes. All that rolled into one very pleasurable 4-star read for me. I’m grateful to have been given the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book through NetGalley.

This was a great novel! It has age gap, firefighter, enemies to lovers and blue collar. There is angst, spice and adorable moments! I loved this novel and cannot wait to see where the rest of this season is going to go. I loved the small friend group/roommate bond.

I was able to read an ARC thanks to the publisher and NetGalley!

Such a beautiful story and it was one of my favorite tropes. Enemies to lovers. They were intense, sassy and wildly strong willed. Calvin was smexy and perfect in all the right ways and there wasn’t one thing I didn’t like about Jamie! It is a little spicy, so If you’re looking for a good contemporary romance then this is the book for you. And I don’t want to forget to mention the audiobook! Ada Sinclair and Nelson Hobbs were the perfect couple do the voices and I really enjoyed it.
Thanks Brilliance Publishing and audio via NetGalley.

This book was perfect! Absolutely loved.

This book had everything I hoped for when I read the synopsis. All the characters were great, the romance filled with forbidden drama and angst. The humor is good and the steamy scenes were hot. Jamie and Calvin stole my heart.

Recommend if you like forbidden, age gap romance, grumpy x sunshine, found family, forced proximity, firefighters and angst!

4,5 ⭐ What a wonderful, funny, and sad story! I think only Jewel E. Ann can combine drama and rom-com so masterfully. The banter in the book is awesome! I was giggling most of the time, but by the end, my heart was aching with emotions. I fell in love with these characters, especially Fitz. It was so interesting to watch him change and open his heart to love❤️‍🩹
“Jaymes, if I were normal, I’d love you enough. The problem is, I’m not normal, so I’d love you too much.”
This story is worth your attention. Highly recommend it! I can't wait for books about other characters.

There is not much that Jewel E. Ann writes that I don't love. Usually what I love most about her stories is that heart grabbing, soul crushing twist that nearly always undoes me. This story had a twist yes, but while it surprised me, it didn't crush me. I missed that in this story. What I DID love about it was that quirky connection between Calvin and Jaymes. I laughed out loud more than once in this story because, they WERE each other's person and they DID understand each other in ways no one else did or could. I loved that they could be each other's person/friend and still allow the other to spread their wings and fly. The story, above all, was about love, loss and acceptance. The author achieved all of this.

“Don’t love me like a martyr,” she whispers thickly, strangled with emotion. “Love me like a hero. Jump without looking back.” Her eyes pinch shut, releasing more tears while she inhales shakily. “Fight for me. Save us.”

While I was missing that heartbreaking moment, there were other amazing thoughts and moments that this remained a 5 star read for me. Looking forward to the next story.

This wasn’t a book for me. The writing was not something that I enjoyed. The scenarios and the dialogue didn’t feel believable to me. I also found myself not rooting for Jaymes and Calvin to get together. I didn’t like him and I don’t think he deserved her. It also felt like their moods switched too quickly within one scene.

I will not be posting this review.

Forced proximity, age difference, firefighters, grumpy/sunshine, opposites attract, forbidden romance. This book has all the tropes to check off my list.

Don't let this book fool you, it is an absolute carousel of emotions. You cry, you laugh, angst, excitement. It's simply amazing.

I enjoyed it as I do all of Jewel's stories, and I definitely recommend it.

This story turned into the romance i never expected….
Jewel E Ann truly is a special impeccable author, i love her diversity, every time you pick up one of hers i fell it’s really a different ride each time.
Jaymes and Calvin bring the banter and fun to this story, to begin i read this as a light hearted read but it packs an almighty emotional
punch. And it broke my heart but in such a sweet and loving way we’re healed to find the HEA.
When you’re not looking nor wanting to find love, it hits you like a wrecking ball.
Love, forgiveness and healing. Finding truths and dealing with the past - such an enjoyable read that leaves you fully satisfied,
