This story had an intriguing synopsis which made me want to read it. I had just come off the high of reading Sunday Morning by JEA and absolutely loved it and I wanted to keep riding that high, so I dove into From Air. This book had a totally different feel and vibe and I admit I struggled a bit to get on board with the story.
Jamie is a traveling nurse that takes a job in Missoula and rents a room in a house with other roommates, and the biggest rule of them all is, "don't sleep with your roommates" but as soon as Jamie meets Calvin, that's pretty much all she thinks about. And once Calvin is around Jamie for any length of time, that's all he thinks about as well. Calvin was very much a loner, and made it very clear to Jamie that he couldn't offer her anything in terms of a relationship, but it took no time at all for them to start sneaking around, even getting tattoos together. It was very instalove, which I never truly believe, and the whole "are you my person?" thing went hand in hand with the instalove, and it wasn't believable to me, especially since Calvin constantly made it super clear there was no future together for him and Jamie. But she was very persistent, constantly making comments about how she wanted to fix him, even though she didn't even know what had happened in his past and why he was the way he was.
The first half of the book really dragged for me, and I put it down several times along the way. Things were happening, between Jamie and Calvin, but nothing felt like it had any substance. The second half of the book picked up and got super interesting when we finally learned about the events that had occurred in Calvin's past, and then the twists of fate that happened, and intertwined Calvin's past with Jamie's, and the revelations that came to light. Then the book really took off and I was glued to the pages.
Overall, I didn't really feel that all-consuming love that Jamie and Calvin finally succumbed to. I was glad they ultimately found their way back to each other, but it didn't come with an emotional punch. The secondary characters were fun, I am especially looking forward to reading Maren's story next.

4.5 stars. How have I never read any of this author’s books before? She is a wonderful story teller with deep character development and unpredictable twists. I will be reading more from her.
There was a lot going on here but it was well laid out and put together, it made it easy to enjoy this book! I loved all of these characters so much! Jaymes “Jamie” and Calvin “Fitz” strike up an unusual friendship of sorts when Jamie moves to Montana for a stint there as a traveling psychiatric nurse. She moves into a house with Will, Maren and Fitz, all who work in the fire service in different capacities. Fitz is a smoke jumper and seems pretty closed off at first but Jamie’s teasing way with him seems to wear him down. Will and Maren, are great! I really like both of them. Such fun banter all the way around in that house but I especially loved the sexy, witty banter between Jamie and Fitz.
The rule of the house is no hooking up with your roommates. Jaymes and Fitz do adhere to that as long as they can, in fact at first it seems like their obvious chemistry won’t have the chance to smolder but it does. Theirs is not quite an easy relationship and it goes through a very rough patch that keeps you wondering if there is any hope, but leave it to a romance author to give us such a wonderful HEA.
Wonderful story! This is a fantastic start to a new series! I can’t wait for Maren’s book next!

This book hooked me from the first page, Jewel does it again. I loved the grumpy/sunshine trope and can't wait for the next book in the series.

Wow, Jewel E. Ann always gives us such beautiful and intense stories that captivate you from the start.
I love Calvin and Jaymes! This story has it all- fantastic banter, vulnerability, heartache, yearning, and an intense amount of love.
Calvin, what a complex and beautiful man. He’s so guarded, afraid to love, afraid to let people in, and Jaymes is the light that helps breathe life into him again.
Jewel E. Ann writes the best banter and blends it so perfectly. I love the element of suspense and unknown as truths begin to unravel. The events that unfold will have your stomach in knots. It heartbreaking and beautiful all at once. This emotional story of loss, hope, healing, and love will leave you with a full heart.

Jewel Ann knows how to tell a very compelling and engaging romance. She is so good at keeping the reader engaged and turning the page. There is a bit of an age gap in this book and tantalizing secrets with desired sexiness. I loved this book!

From Air by Jewel E. Ann is a solid romance set in the exciting world of Montana firefighters. Jamie, a psychiatric nurse, moves in with a group of smokejumpers and quickly gets pulled into a flirty, tension-filled dynamic with Calvin, a grumpy firefighter who's hard to figure out. Their banter is one of the highlights of the book—fun, sharp, and keeps the story moving.
The supporting characters bring some nice humor and depth, and the writing flows easily with good pacing. But the second half of the book threw me off with a major plot twist that felt a little too coincidental. It kind of took away from the strong start and the chemistry between Jamie and Calvin.
Overall, it's a fun read with great characters, but the twist in the second half didn’t totally work for me.

Fitz & Jamie were two people who met by chance. Jamie is flourishing as a travel nurse, and Fitz jumps fires out of planes. He lost all of his family, and blames himself. Jamie doesn’t believe she has any family left. I found their stories heartbreaking. Jamie snagged his heart before he could blink. She made him human, and he had forgotten how to be one. I loved their story. We all deserve someone who cares for us just where we are. She brought him back to life!

After the death of her mom, Jamie decides to take a job as a traveling nurse to let her job show her the country. First up, rural Montana where she moves in with three roommates, including grumpy Calvin.
Jewel E. Ann is one of my faves! This one was so good. Here's what I loved:
Calvin: I adored him. He's so grumpy and doesn't want to let anyone into his life. But he can't help it when it comes to Jamie. I liked how dedicated he was to his job and those he cared about.
Jamie: She was such a spitfire! I was here for all of her sassiness and desire to live her life to the fullest. I loved seeing her and Calvin together. Their banter was perfect.
The romance: These two were perfect together. They were friends and each other's person for so long but you can feel the attraction they have for each other. I loved how they came together, the slow-ish burn, and the pay off was amazing. They were everything.
The angst: I cried in this one! I loved the plot twists and really felt heartbroken at times. Definitely gave me reader's anxiety.
All in all, a good spicy and angsty romance.
Thank you to the author and publisher for the gifted copy!

Gosh, I loved it! Jamie's sass. Calvin's quiet, gentle soul. Their banter. These characters are so complex, but their needs are so simple. I never expected anything less when it came to a Jewel E Ann book. It's so rewarding. I was falling more and more with every little gesture. And when it came to the big ones, I was a gonner for these two and their story.

From Air is a steamy, swoony, age gap, found family romance that really sucks you in.
I’m loved the way that Jamie and Calvin were explored as individuals in their own right, as they found their way to each other. The evolution of their relationship felt authentic, and the foundation of being each others ‘person’ was so heartwarming. At times the pacing felt a little off, as though two stories had been merged into one, but honestly the trade off to this was a really enjoyable and detailed journey. While there’s the need to suspend disbelief, Jamie and Calvin’s personal histories had me on the edge of my seat, and created such a charge for their relationship. I’d highly recommended to anyone looking to lose themself in a captivating and heartfelt romance. 4.5 ⭐️.
Thank you Montlake for a copy of this book. Opinions expressed are my own.

Read if you like: firefighter MMC, grumpy x sunshine, age gap (10 years), sneaking around, angst, forced proximity, enemies to lovers, found family, roommates to lovers, tragic past
Jamie/Jaymes is a travel nurse who’s really big on zodiac signs. Calvin (Fitz) is a grumpy, firefighter who loves order and routine. Their banter was filled with lots of lies which I was not vibing with 😭 I didn’t know when they were serious or not, which I guess was the whole point, but they didn’t really get to know each other that way
I ended up skimming the book after 30% as I wasn’t feeling it. From Air felt super drawn out when it didn’t need to be. I didn’t like the resolution, there was zero apology or grovel. There was a big gap in time before they made up?? Not believable at all, especially when there’s ZERO chapters of them pining away for each other and being sad in that time period
If you like the tropes maybe give this book a go! A lot of people have said great things about this book, this one was just a miss for me. It’s a shame because Before Us by Jewel E Ann is one of my favourite books of all time 😔

I really had a hard time getting into the story and connecting with the characters. It was a dnf for me after roughly 50 percent :(

Oh my heart!! It's still beating way too fast but that's normal when it comes to Jewel e Ann books.
From Air was funny but also so heartbreaking. It was full of banter but also so emotional. I was laughing out loud one moment and the next moment my heart was sinking along with Jamie and Fitz.
Jamie is a travel psych nurse who landed a job in Missoula, Montana. She rents out a room with other wildfire fighters and soon forms a friendship with them but feels more for the grumpy roommate. Calvin Fitzgerald is an emotional detached grumpy but equally mysterious, funny and attractive. I loved thier banter, the mystery behind thier pasts, and thier sizzling chemistry.
It's definitely a must read and I'm so excited for the second book in the series!!

You just can’t go wrong with a novel by Jewel E. Ann. To be honest, I didn’t even read the synopsis of this book before selecting it. Based on my prior experiences with her books, she just gets it right.
I am a sucker for a grumpy, brooding character who is averse to being in a committed relationship. There is just something about the challenge and watching them slowly unravel and fall in love. Of course, Calvin Fitzgerald was a great character who fit this mold to a T. He is only committed to his career as a smoke jumper, he has no time for relationships that take more than one night.
When a new roommate enters Calvin’s life, well, she is a little hard for him to ignore. Calvin and Jamie had incredible banter. Their dialogue was spot on. Between the quips, the jabs, and the flirting, I was just waiting for their time to come. For me, it is always the anticipation that keeps my interest in a romantic story. Jewel E. Ann kept the anticipation brewing and I was one hundred percent invested in it.
Jamie wasn’t exactly looking for love either, though. As a travel nurse, she was only looking to stay in Montana for six months and then it was going to be on to the next work location. This was her way of seeing the country, and she had no interest in putting down roots until she had seen her fair share.
Calvin and Jamie were wonderful characters, but in all honesty, the whole cast of characters were equally good. From their other two roommates to their colleagues and friends, the characters brought a lot of humor and goodness to this book.
From Air was another great read by one of my favorite authors. She delivered a romance that was mixed with wonderful banter, chemistry galore and, of course, she provided a twist that, even though I thought I had it all figured out, apparently, I didn’t. I do love that about her books.
*5 Stars

“Because I’m the best you’ve ever had, Fitz.”
“The best what?”
“You’ll see.”
I feel like this book is the phrase “when you know, you know” blended perfectly with “perfect person, I think I don’t deserve them.” I’d explain that further, but I think you should just read From Air and you’ll get it. A travel nurse, Jamie, moves to Montana for her latest assignment. Moves in to a house with three friends who are in different parts of the firefighting field. Will is funny and owns the house, Maren is the best and so sweet, and Fitz, well he’s Fitz. There’s one main rule and that’s don’t sleep with your roommates or you’re out. That seems easy, but also not since Will made the rule and Fitz is closed off and kind of rude, but there’s just something there with him from the start. ANYWAY, enough plot. Just know From Air is emotional, it’s funny, it’s sweet, it’s frustrating, it has some heavy themes woven within, and it’s just an all around great read. It has the usual Jewel relationships and storylines that keep you guessing until the end, but it also has a sweet found family ease and healing journeys you’ll find yourself rooting for. Glad to see this is a series, so we can see more of these characters falling in love.

This is a sweet read. You rooted for Jamie and Fitz the whole time. Jamie is going through the loss of her mom. She’s a travel nurse and takes an assignment in Missoula. She moves into a house share with three roommate. Fitz has been through a tragic loss. He has himself closed off to the world. It’s so fun to see Jamie insert herself into Fitz’s world.
I will say the ending where she says he can’t say anything bad about her dad doesn’t seem fair to Fitz. Her dad is the cause of his tragic loss. I don’t think she gives as much thought to that as she should.

From Air follows Jamie, a travel psychiatric nurse who moves to Montana into a house with three roommates, all first responders. Fitz, a firefighter, is one of those roommates and is ten years older than Jamie.
When chemistry develops between them, they have to keep quiet because there's a strict no dating rule between the roommates. Fitz is also very emotionally closed off (due to the loss he's suffered), which SPOILER ALERT.........ends up connecting their background stories together. This connection, which was revealed towards the end, was a bit too intense to me, and I personally think the story could've done without it.
Although this didn't totally work for me, I may give book two a go. I do like the first responders + roommates set up.
Cws: mental illness, death of loved ones
Thank you to Netgalley and Montlake for the e-ARC, all opinions are my own.

Jewel E. Ann proves once again that she can't write a bad book—it's impossible!
I jumped into this one without even glancing at the synopsis because I know I’m in for an unforgettable ride when it comes to her books. Once again, she wrote a book I couldn’t put down. Usually, I keep track of how much of the book is left or how much time I have remaining on my Kindle, but with this one, I turned those off—I didn’t want it to end and would’ve been sad to see the finish line approaching.
The story revolves around Jaymes and Calvin (aka Fitz), two people brought together as roommates under strict "house rules" to stay away from each other. Fitz has serious walls up, and Jaymes is told he’s not one to let people in. But the undeniable attraction between them is instant. Their witty banter is hilarious and soon turns into a friendship—a secret kinship, really.
Jaymes is a sweet and free-spirited character eager to live life to the fullest. Montana is her first stop in traveling the country. Fitz, on the other hand, is closed off and determined to keep his distance. But their chemistry is undeniable, and the spark between them is impossible to ignore.
The book has a delightful grumpy/sunshine vibe, and the twist that comes is something I never saw coming! I loved every moment of this story and can’t wait for everyone to meet Jaymes, Fitz, and the incredible cast of characters.
Jewel E. Ann is a masterful storyteller, and her writing in this book is flawless.

Jamie and Calvin were great together. The grumpy sunshine trope was done well, with grumpy Calvin showing many signs of a wonderful heart underneath, throughout the story, keeping me rooting for them. Pasta ride up to prevent an easy HEA but once they resolve some issues, my smiles were genuine. What a sweet story. Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for an early read.

This book is absolutely consuming the moment you begin to the second you turn the last page. I wish I could say you feel satisfied by the end, but I will admit, I just want the next book. I already started searching for the following one, just to find out I have to wait until March. UGH! Jamie and Fitz took over my heart. Jewel simply captivates my heart with her characters. Each time she makes me believe she will never be able to do it again, yet she does. She has a power with words and she simply makes me believe in love each time with the beauty she puts on paper. Thank you for this powerful, beautiful story of finding forever when it felt like it was lost in some characters that felt broken. I absolutely felt my heart bursting for both the characters. I fell in love with both of them and I wanted to hug them through my e-reader. You will not regret this read. Dive in. It's a ride you won't regret!
