FAVORITE BOOK OF THE YEAR!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
From Air had it ALL.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Fantastic banter, characters you can’t help but fall in love with, and deep emotions etched into the pages. Jamie and Calvin’s story was both angsty and filled with humor. It’s been awhile since a story effortlessly tugged on my heartstrings and made me laugh like this one. I loved the forbidden romance, forced proximity, and tragic elements that all collided.

From Air was truly unputdownable. A unforgettable journey of hope, healing, and learning it’s okay to dream…grabbing ahold of those dreams and never letting go.

I picked this up for this solely for the tropes, having never read anything by Jewel E. Ann before and it was everything I hoped it would be!

This book is one of the best I have read for top-tier banter and amazing humour. The witty interactions between the main characters, as well as their roommates, colleague and friends just hooked me immediately. It was fresh, funny, flirty. Full of the camaraderie you expect when relationships are forged through high-pressure situations. And this is why I’ll read every book to come from this series!

Travelling nurse Jaimie moves into a house with 3 first responders, and one of the house rules is no hook-ups between roommates. But sparks immediately begin to fly when she is introduced to roommate #3 - smoke-jumper Calvin ‘Fitz’ Fitzgerald, who is instantly abrasive and closed off. Where Jaimie is upbeat and optimistic, Fitz is grumpy and enigmatic. I had so many laugh out loud moments at their quick-witted interactions. Right from the beginning, they both gave as good as they got and the banter quickly turned flirty. Their undeliable chemistry lead to delicious tension and when that thread snapped, we were treated some steamy, secretive spice.

Although I was initially pulled in by the humour, the raw emotions I felt as the story progressed are what made this book stand out for me. There was so much more against them than the ‘slightly’ forbidden ‘no hookups’ rule. This story took some unexpected, emotionally-charged turns, that had me crying into my pillow at 1am. These two deserved their HEA so much, and I was rooting for them until the very end.

This is one of the best contemporary romances I’ve read in a long time. No gimmicks, just a beautifully written story of two people finding their person.

• Firefighter x Travel Nurse
• Grumpy x Sunshine
• Roommates-to-lovers
• Found Family
• Trauma/Healing
• Incredible banter

Omg this was incredible!! This was easily up there with one of my favourite romance reads this year. I couldn't put it down and devoured this in one sitting.

Everything delivered for me — the romance was full of angst and the chemistry between these two was undeniable. The writing was so engaging, I fell completely in love with these characters at the very beginning. Calvin and Jaime had the best witty banter between them, I literally felt myself swooning. Oh, to be loved by Calvin!! I even had tears in my eyes by the end because they were so cute.

The found family was another highlight. I laughed out loud so any times. The humour was a welcome reprieve and balanced some of the heavier themes. I can't wait to read Maren's book - she's a real firecracker.

This is so much more than a romance novel - there's an added drama plot that kept me in engaged. My jaw hit the floor at one point, I did not see the direction the second half of this book took. This cruel twist of fate delivered so much emotion and turmoil to the story. Grief is also a heavy theme in this book and I loved watching these characters I grew to love heal.

I'll definitely be continuing this series and checking out this author's other work. I'm so glad I stumbled across this gem because I went in completely blind. I 10/10 recommend this if you love an angsty romance!!

Thank you Valentine PR, NetGalley, Montlake and the author for the advanced reader copy. Available now!

From Air by Jewel E. Ann

Spice: Spice: 🔥🔥🔥/5

It has been a hot minute since I was able to read one of Jewel’s books, and I’m so happy I was chosen to read From Air early. It’s hard for me to read one a deadline these days with two littles running / crawling around, but I made the time when I saw I was able to read From Air early.

Jewel always makes her characters so interesting and finds some way to twist things at the end that you don’t quite seem coming when you start the book. Calvin, aka Fitz, and Jaymes are such opposites attract, and the banter these two ensure. Phew. It wouldn’t be a JEA book without traumatic pasts, and forbiddingness stitched in.

We have an age gap, firefighter and travel nurse, and roommate situation. Not to mention, Fitz has a serious commitment issue. The pages were on fire when the heat was turned up which is a good thing since he was a firefighter LOL

I’m excited for the next book as always. I would read the back of the toilet bowl if JEA wrote something on it.

FROM AIR is the first instalment in Jewel E Ann’s contemporary, adult WILDFIRE romance series. This is thirty-five year old smoke jumper Calvin ‘Fitz’ Fitzgerald, and twenty-five year old psychiatric nurse Jaymes ‘Jamie’ Andrews’ story line.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Fitz and Jamie) FROM AIR follows psychiatric nurse Jamie Andrews as her latest contract takes her from Miami Florida to Missoula Montana where she will meet her future in the guise of smokejumper Calvin Fitzpatrick.
Jamie is a travel nurse, a position that in which she journeys from city to city , a position where her present will collide with her past, and in the ensuing spiral, break her heart in the process. Calvin ‘Fitz’ Fitzpatrick is a smoke jumper, who lost everything more than twenty years earlier, and he has spent his adult life fighting the fires that destroyed his life but Fitz never expected to fall in love, let alone meet the woman who would control his heart, a woman whose own heart will be shattered by our story line hero.

The world building follows several interlocking pathways in which the reader is up close and personal with Calvin’s past, a past he is reluctant to reveal but a past that will pull our heroine into an emotional spiral. As Jamie finds herself falling for a man who doesn’t do relationships; a man who refuses to acknowledge the past, our heroine discovers not everything and everyone are who they claim to be.

The relationship between Jamie and Fitz is a ‘grumpy-sunshine’. Fitz struggles to move on from the past, as Jamie battles to uncover the truth about her own. Two people broken by loss, and the declaration of reality, mired in heartbreak and guilt. The $ex scenes are passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of charismatic and colorful secondary and supporting characters including co-worker, friends and family. We are introduced to Calvin’s roommates tanker pilot Maren Bernabe, and thirty-seven year old Engine Chief / firefighter Will Landry; Jamie’s best friend back in Florida Melissa, as well as Jamie’s co-worker Dr. Everleigh and Betty O’Neil, and fellow firefighters Gary and Todd.

FROM AIR is a story of grief and loss, secrets and revelations, acceptance, forgiveness and love. The premise is twisted, heart breaking, emotional and dramatic; the romance is sensitive and moving; the characters are sassy, spirited and determined.

Something in the way.....

From Air is Jewel E. Ann's starter book for her new series, Wildfire, and I can't express in words how fantastic this story is!

Being a newbie to the author's work, let me just say that this book is one of those you can feel its phenomenality from the very begining! Love me some small town, blue collar, roommates-to-lovers romance!

Original, so very genuine and relatable is the connection between Jamie and Calvin, a psychiatric nurse and a smoke jumper, respectively, that happened in mysterious ways, for the simple fact of how different they were as individuals and the way they became so embeded in each other, bit by bit, conquering the other's heart with no promise beyond the present.
Jamie was a ray of sunshine, sensitive, good listener and way interested in her grumpy, very attractive and complex roommate, Calvin Fitzgerald. He was the enigma she wanted to crack, understand his thoughts, predicaments and internal qualms, a past weighting on his shoulders and self, one that molded the man as his job, without place for anything else.
He, one the other hand, was intrigued. For the very first time, Fitzy felt his blasé demeanor crack before the bubly nurse, her honesty and straight shots, the promise of banter-lust, but never the hope. That wasn't on the agenda....

Physical and emotionally impactant, the narrative is a very expressive and vicarious experience where you can feel, through our protagonist's actions, reactions, expectations and certainities, the spectrum of wills and wants, thoughts and possibilities, inner turmoil and struggle between wishing for all and the volition to go against, because the grief is too much and the idea of submitting another being to that ominous weight, is simply not an option.
More so, in the great scheme of troubled things, one unexpected liason makes unsteady completly broken.......beyond any repair?
Well, time heals all wounds and makes the heart grow fonder, as the saying goes......... in this case, absolutely thirsty and consumed, because there is no better match than one made from air to earth, grounded, solid, indelible.

Flowing steady and direct with a great slew of secondary characters, earnest exchanges and cozy atmosphere, this is more than a simple love story, is about friendship, respect and comprehension, healing and letting go, and the hope that never died.
It's time for growth where the fire consumed...

"(...) Sometimes, for something beautiful to take to life and grow, everything around it has to be sacrificed. All we see is the destruction, but if you wait long enough— if you’re patient—magic happens. (...)”

Out of this world phenomenal!

This is my top read of 2024!!

Go in blindly and I promise you won’t be disappointed!
This author never disappoints with her passionate though provoking and creative writing. This story flowed beautifully and seamlessly as I entered the unpredictable journey of Fitz and Jaymes.

Fitz and Jaymes are a couple that you’ll never forget!
These characters were each so likable so real sooo delicious! Sexy, over the top one liners, the banter between these 2 was priceless. Quirky, hilarious sexual tension, this insta attraction couple have the best one liners and the sweetest disposition.

Their chemistry is off the charts hot and the stars seemed aligned for these 2 to reach a happily ever after. However, this author is not the easy get happily ever after kind of author. There are obstacles in the form of deep dark secrets that keeps them from taking their friendship further. Unexpected twists and unimaginable painful secrets a put this story on a whole other level.
What are they?
As the story evolved, I never imagined what direction this story would take and what the outcome would be.
I was so invested in this story, and finding out what would happen I could not put this book down.

This is a profound story of love, forgiveness and second chances. A story that really puts into play the question of whether or not telling the truth is better than living a lie.
Discovering their secrets and finding how it all unfolded made this story worthy of all the stars!

Title: From Air
Author: Jewel E. Ann
Hero/Heroine: Fitz & Jamie
What to Expect: Enemies to Lovers, Grumpy x Sunshine, Tortured Hero, Forced Proximity, Age Gap

tw/cw: mention of character having a vasectomy, death of a parent (off page but mentioned), death of multiple family members, character who has suffered a stroke

That twist. THAT TWIST THOUGH! I was completely shooketh when I got to that part, so much so I just sat there blinking at my kindle for about 5 minutes straight. When I tell you that this author can write some friggin amazing angst, I ain’t lying. Her writing is incredibly engaging and witty, and she knows how to create some top tier banter.

After the death of her mother, Jamie takes a job as a travelling nurse in Missoula, renting a room from Will and his two friends, Maren and Fitz. Having been warned about Fitz’s attitude, Jamie was still determined to get to know him, and I loved their dynamic.

Fitz was a hard character to like at first and there was a small part of me that wanted Jamie to tell him to do one. However, this feeling was fleeting, as the more that the story progressed, the more you came to understand the reasons behind why he was the way he was. Jamie, the perfect contradiction to Fitz’s surly attitude, was a breath of fresh air, I loved how refused to give up on getting through to Fitz.

Humour, heat and angst made this an unforgettable read and it’s definitely getting added to my list of favourites for 2024.

Thank you to the author and @valentine_pr_ for providing me with a copy of this to read. This is my honest review.

✨overall thoughts: unforgettable. absolutely loved it
✨ 3rd act break up: yes
✨ heat level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
✨ star rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

From Air by Jewel E. Ann (Wildfire #1) ignited my heart from the very first page. Jamie, a traveling psych nurse, finds herself falling for Fitz, her super grumpy firefighter roommate and a smokejumper in Montana. Fitz has built an emotional fireproof barrier around his heart, convinced that he's unworthy of love and incapable of a real relationship. His painful past doesn't allow him to think about his future.

Jamie is determined to get in Fritz's head in order to crack his heart. Healing someone as broken and guarded as Fitz proves to be no easy task. Their chemistry is undeniable, and their connection blazes into something unforgettable. Together, they're on a collision course—burning down each other's defenses and risking everything for a hard-earned happily ever after.

This story is raw, emotional, and addictive. Jewel E. Ann delivers another unforgettable romance that will leave your heart ablaze. I can't wait to read more books in this new series of standalones.

A fantastic read filled with amazing tropes - fire jumper, roommate, grumpy/sunshine and small town. The characters are fantastic, funny and full of passion.

Jamie and Calvin do their best to fight their feelings…due to “roommate rules”. Jaime does her best to break him with all her teasing, innuendos and flirty. Love the banter between these two.

There are secrets that could destroy them…can their love for one another be strong enough to overcome the past? You will binge read to find out.

A fantastic read with all the feels and so much love.

When I say From Air had me on the edge of my seat from like the first page I mean it. I'm usually good at guessing plot twist, I didn't see any of them coming, no spoilers. I was obsessed with the start of their relationship. Calvin was just so prickly and Jaymes was determined to be "his person". And if anyone needed a person, it was Calvin, for so much of the book he was so closed off to everyone, but Jayme slowly wormed her way into his shell and honestly sometimes bullied him into telling her about his past. And while probably not the best way to get someone to open up, he did need that shove or he never would.
I truly loved this book, I could not put down. This is the first book I've by Jewel E. Ann and I absolutely want to check out more of her books.

Another favorite from Jewel E. Ann! I could not put this book down. If you haven’t read anything by Jewel, I am BEGGING you to please change that asap.

Jamie makes a temporary move to Montana for a travel nurse position. One of her new roommates is the grumpy smoke jumper, Calvin “Fitz” Fitzgerald. He has a tragic past, so he isn’t friendly and doesn’t allow anyone to get close to him. Jamie makes it her mission to be his friend.

The banter and the TENSION between them was so, so good. They both have painful pasts to overcome, but the relationship between them was so beautiful. As usual with a JEA book, I shed some tears in the last part of the book.

Jewel E. Ann is one of my favorite authors. Every book is so beautifully written. With deep, emotional connections. Seriously, please read one of her books!

From Air is an emotional, angsty, and beautifully written romance that captured my heart. Jamie, a traveling psych nurse, moves to Montana and ends up living with a group of firefighters, including Calvin "Fitz" Fitzgerald—a broody, secretive smoke jumper with a heart of gold beneath his tough exterior. Their chemistry is undeniable, and the slow-burn tension between them is masterfully done.
Jewel E. Ann weaves a tale filled with heartfelt banter, swoon-worthy moments, and a plot twist I never saw coming. The narrators, Ada Sinclair and Nelson Hobbs, brought these characters to life with an incredible dual performance, making the audiobook a standout experience.
With elements like grumpy/sunshine dynamics, forbidden romance, and found family vibes, From Air had me hooked from start to finish. It’s a must-read for fans of heartfelt, angsty romances with depth and unforgettable characters. If you haven’t read any of Jewel E. Ann books yet, this is definitely a place to start.
Very grateful to the publisher

I knew I had to read this book after reading the blurb, but nothing could have prepared me for what this story would do with my emotions and my heart. This book is about finding the one person who could love you even if you thought you didn't deserve it, didn't need it, fought it until you couldn't fight it any longer about finding the person who can make you laugh even when their a grump, who will carry your heels in one hand and hold you with the other, who will give you everything!

3.75 ⭐️ rounded up

Thank you to Valentine PR for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was a very highly anticipated book for me after falling in love with Jewel E Ann's writing earlier this year! I struggled with rating this a bit because there is much to enjoy about it, however I struggled with a few areas. My review has potential to have a bit more bias than others due to my personal connection with the fire service.

What I loved:
- The witty banter in this book is incredible! Loved the sarcastic/dry humor
- Enjoyed the found family feeling
- I'm very drawn to Jewel's writing style and her books leave me looking forward to picking it up again each day!

Read this if you love:
- Firefighter/Smoke Jumper MMC
- Travel Nurse FMC
- Witty Banter
- Age Gap
- Grumpy x Sunshine
- Roommates/forced proximity

Other thoughts:
Overall I enjoyed this book and I was motivated to read it. I struggled a bit with the connection between the MMC & FMC, it felt a bit too rushed in the beginning for my taste and I wish there have been more interactions that left me believing the depth of the spark between them. Events that happened at the end of the story felt like too much coincidence for me personally, but it was still a really interesting direction of the story nonetheless.

I will definitely be continuing the series, as a fire wife I don't feel like there are enough good firefighter romance books out there so I'm super excited to see what the next book has in store!!

I seriously couldn't stop listening to the alc, and I was consumed!!! The love story of Fitz and Jamie was a heart wrenching one. If I was put in their shoes, I honestly have no idea what I would do. 😭 It was definitely not an easy decision especially after all the pain that they had carried throughout their life. ⁣

Jamie was a travel nurse, and she took a job in Missoula where she'll be roommates with three other people: Fitz, Will, and Maren. Fitz was a super grumpy smoke jumper, meaning he's a firefighter who jumps into the fire to put it out. Jamie fell first, but Fitz definitely fell harder. Jamie brought out the best of Fitz especially when he had so much baggage that he didn't open up to anyone. The dynamic of their relationship was beautifully well written. The banter, the flirting made me love them even more. ⁣

I'm not going to say more because I don't want to spoil it, but just know that it's a no brainer to pick this one up. Easily one of my top reads of the year!!!

This book is full of tragedies and sadness. The way Jewel navigates the characters through these sad times is just incredible. The way both the characters had to overcome come their pasts to really see that they weren’t truly broken. Calvin and Jaymes were destined for one another and nothing can stand in their way.

Rating: 5/5 Stars
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Jamie is a traveling psychiatric nurse who has taken a 6 month position at a hospital in Montana (previously she lived in Miami). She is roommates with 3 firefighters: Will, Maren, and Calvin (aka Fitz). She gets along well enough with all of them, but she can't help being intrigued especially by Calvin, a grumpy smoke jumper. She enjoys giving him a hard time and the feeling is mutual. It is in their rental agreement that they aren't allowed to be in a romantic relationship with another roommate, but when things start to heat up between them they have to keep it quiet. Calvin's also keeping secrets about his past and struggles to open up.

WHO HAS BEEN GATE KEEPING THIS AUTHOR? This book was so good! Not only do I love a good firefighter romance, but this had great banter, lovable characters, and lots of emotions. The tragic past, the forbidden roommate romance, forced proximity all worked so well together, and Jamie and Calvin's chemistry leapt off the page. I love when the author can have both humor and angst in a book without making anything feel forced. Will and Maren (the other roommates) also great characters (this is the first book in the series, but Maren's story is next and I can't wait!). Okay off to go add this author's entire backlist to my TBR!

Thank you Valentine PR and Jewel E. Ann for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.
