From Air (Wildfire) by Jewel E. Ann
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5
This is the first book I’ve read by Jewel E. Ann, and it was such a delight to read. I truly enjoyed the banter between Calvin and Jamie, and how off the charts their chemistry was. Jewel developed a story with a bit of mystery and suspense. Their chemistry was captivating from the get go, everything along the way just made it better. Definitely a must read story.

Jamie Andrews a travel nurse, who's never really traveled anywhere, finds herself becoming roommates with 3 firefighters. Two of the roommates Will and Maren are warm and welcoming, then walks our grumpy smoke jumper, Calvin otherwise known as Fitz. A man who keeps to himself, pushes people away, and refuses to open up about his personal life. Well he was that way until our sunshiny Jamie crashes into his life.

Jaime really takes the lead and inserts herself into Calvin's life, by constantly invading his personal space, and poking the grumpy bear that we come to love so much. At a first glance Calvin is closed off to friendships, and pushes everyone away, but as Jamie continues to poke fun, we start to see a fun playful side to Calvin. It's truly one of the most adorable things to read about. I just love seeing a closed off character really open up and grow throughout the story. Calvin and Jamie's relationship is fun and playful, but it all comes to an end when we find out that Jamie's past is intertwined with Calvin's worst nightmare.

The way Jewel wrote this story was absolute genius and perfection. The way her characters really grew and matured together throughout the story was just perfect. My highlighter was bouncing all over the pages. The chemistry between all the characters was really addictive to read about and it was all around just an amazing romance. By the way why is this the first time I've ever read about a smoke jumper ?!?!?! There is something seriously HOT about a man jumping out of a plane to fight fires. Or maybe it's just Calvin :) Once again, Jewel has written yet another one of my all time favorites, and I hope you'll take a chance on this amazing author because she's incredibly talented, and her books are just amazing <3

Thank you to Netgalley, Amazon, and Valentine PR for sending me an early copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is the story of Jamie and Calvin. Jamie is a traveling nurse. She left her home in Florida and went to the middle of nowhere in Montana. She never thought she would be living in a house full of firefighters though. This is where she meets Calvin. He is a smoke jumper and ten years her senior. But they are also oil and water. However, I do have to say that these two have some amazing banter. Though the entire book there banter is great. They are very flirty with each other, even if they don't like being in the same room together. However, they have to spend a lot of time together since they share the same friend and they are all coupled up now. There is too a no roommates shall ever hookup rule to contend with too. I really loved reading this book. I know a lot about firefighting simply from being one myself and married to ta fire chief. However, I loved learning about the specialized jobs they have fighting wild fires in Montana. Calvin has a secret too that could blow this all up before it even begins. Like I said, this book is great. You are really going to love reading this book. It is a book that flies by because your so hooked on the story you can't put it down. You do not want to miss this book.

First, I want to say thank you so much to VPR and the author for giving me an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

I want to start off by saying I am always a sucker for a grumpy x sunshine trope with some thrown in forced proximity. Calvin is a grumpy smoke jumper who has sworn to never marry and have children. Jamie is a happy go lucky traveling nurse who moves into the home that Calvin shares with his roommates in Montana. The one big rule of the house is that the roommates cannot have sex with each other (which clearly gets broken) and this causes tension but also the love story between Calvin and Jamie. They both have twisted pasts and the book navigates both of those and how they actually intertwine in a way that neither of them expected.

I did enjoy this book. I am giving it a fairly neutral 3 stars because I didn't find myself yearning to keep reading it or super excited to pick it up. I think the story moved at a great pace, it just wasn't as exciting as I hoped and I feel like the plot did fall flat in some aspects. A lot of book, Jamie and Calvin are in separate places, and I think that's where some of the disconnect from the characters came in. Overall, it was a good read, but nothing I would consider as great.

From Air was my second Jewel E. Ann book. I read If This is Love a couple of weeks ago and that book emotionally hurt me from beginning to almost the end. I have heard that no one writes emotional, angsty reads like Jewel E. Ann and I have to agree. This book was beautiful. It had everything I love in spades: angst, strong fmc, damaged mmc, witty banter, heartbreak, healing, and character growth. Jaymes Andrews is one of my favorite female characters of 2024. Even though she was young, she was not immature and the compassion she had for everyone around her was heartwarming. Calvin Fitzgerald, our prickly, grumpy, closed off MMC had so much personal growth and he was absolutely swoonworthy. Probably one of my favorite parts of the book was when things would start to get heavy for one or the other, they knew exactly how to lighten the mood with sarcasm or witty banter. I would be waiting for a powder keg of emotion to go off and the next moment, I was cracking up. I cannot recommend this book highly enough! Definitely a top read of 2024 for me.

Phenomenal. Top 5 read of the year!
This is a first read for me by this author and I can see what I've been missing. The blurb? It's spot on. I read the blurb and I was hooked. The storyline was wonderfully written. It was so well thought out. The way the plot played out, teasing the reader. A secret here, a kiss there. A lie unearthed, a heart mending. SO WELL DONE! I was totally engaged throughout the books entirity.
You know what's going to happen. As bits and pieces are learned, as hearts come together only to shatter, the emotion the writing evokes is like nothing else. I was simply gutted for this couple. Jamie and Calvin worked SO hard for this relationship even though it was destined by fate. To make it through the flames to find their hea was a journey worth following. So happy I gave this one a read.
It's a good thing winter is on the horizon. I should have plenty of time to binge this authors backlist.

I spent the majority of this book with a giddy smile on my face, and audible LOL moments because of the quick witted banter between Jaymes and Fitz... I made it to 98% and then the tears fell.. because of ONE line.

Jewel, you have a gift. This book is about a traveling psychiatric nurse that finds herself becoming roommates with a grumpy and guarded smoke jumper and two of his friends. And I absolutely loved it.

Their story is slightly forbidden, deeply complex, emotionally devastating, held back by trauma, yet full of growth and development... with twists and turns that complicate everything.. but despite it all, they fall.. and I held on to every hope that they would land somewhere together.

I loved the side characters in this story so much. Their support for our main characters was so powerful.. and I'm excited to get more of their stories in this series.

This book will keep you on the edge of your seat, constantly wondering if a happily ever after is truly in the cards or if heartbreak is inevitable. Around the 70% mark, the story takes such unexpected turns that I actually found myself gasping out loud.

Jewel masterfully weaves a tale filled with angst and sorrow, yet somehow manages to steer it toward healing and redemption. Watching the characters navigate their new realities and find solace in one another is both heart-wrenching and heartwarming.

Fitz, a dedicated smoke jumper, has built his life around his work, avoiding emotional vulnerability and the risk of love. Enter Jaymes, a spirited travel nurse who moves into the fourth bedroom of their shared house. The chemistry between them is undeniable, and their witty banter is pure gold. But with the house rule of “no romantic involvement with roommates” looming over them, the allure of the forbidden becomes almost irresistible.

Fitz’s journey of personal growth and opening up to Jaymes about his past is beautifully written. Their connection deepens as they become each other’s confidants, and it’s genuinely touching to see how they support and heal one another.

If you’re looking for a story packed with tough choices, emotional rollercoasters, healing, and love, this book delivers it all.

Jamie Andrews is a young traveling nurse who is passionate about helping others in need. She finds herself sharing a house temporarily with firefighter roommates.

I found the story refreshing and interesting from the beginning. That’s where she meets the grumpy hot firefighter called Calvin. He was interesting and I found I really liked him. What started as fun and games, enemies became a game of love that neither one was prepared for.

Overall, I enjoyed this story. I was wanting to read as fast as possible because I knew there was a twist and I was not wrong. I was completely shocked and truly did not see it coming.

Readers who enjoy enemies to lovers stories will find this book appealing.

Average. Fitz ground my nerves into the pits. The book archived on netgalley and was available on KU with audio so that was great. (I'm sorry I'm so late reviewing but life kicked my tail, brain surgery does that to you). The narrators were great. I love Jamie, but foe some reason Fitz just wasn't my favorite character and I couldn't connect. I do want to read more by this author.

Wow! This story is sweet, emotional and ohhh so darn good! I truly enjoyed this journey! This was a story about falling in love, finding out about your past and figuring out how to make it better for your future. Traveling nurse Jaymes has a new assignment, new roommates and she is about to learn a lot about herself. Calvin is a smoke jumper, he is a bit of a grump and doesn’t talk much about his past. These two have instant chemistry and really fun banter. But there is a roommate rule…roommates are not allowed to sleep together…or else. But boy do you want these two together! They truly belong together. But we have obstacles, like really big ones. Can Calvin and Jaymes survive this emotional journey? This book was soo darn good. The characters had great depth and amazing back stories that added an extra dimension to their story. A story that was a journey that I’m so happy I took. I’m excited about this series and I’m ready to watch it grow.

I’m struggling with the rating for this one. I liked it but there was some things I didn’t like and it took me a while to read it.

What I did like…
I liked the characters and the feeling of family between them.
I liked that she was a traveling nurse and he was a firefighter.
I loved the banter between the fmc and the mmc.

What I didn’t like….
The storyline was a little too far fetched for me.
Alrhough the twists were unexpected, they felt too contrived.
The your my person part when clearly they weren’t each orhers person that quickly.

I am still curious to read the author’s other works, and am thankful to the author and Valentine PR for the chance to read this ARC.

Perfect if you like…
Grumpy/sunshine
Age gap romance
Firefighter/traveling nurse
Small town feel

I have read just about everything form this author. I am so excited she ventured into the firefighter world. I was getting a repetitive feeling from some of her recent titles. this book makes up for all of that.

We meet Jamie--a traveling nurse and her new roommates in Montana. Rule of the house is: don't date your roommate. Calvin tries hard to not fall for her. Jamie tries hard to get him to fall. But alas, it would not be a Jewel E Ann book without some major twists and turn. Both main characters have a past. Both of this wanting to live in the present and not share all those awful details. But when the present and the past collide unexpectedly----there is some DRAMA!

Loved the world building. Loved the fire fighting team and the roommates were AWESOME!! The epilogue was wonderful! I can't wait to read book #2

If there’s one things that a guarantee with Jewel’s writing, it’s that she will have you in your feels, and this book was no exception. From the get go you have some of the best banter I have ever read which will literally have you squealing with delight! The witty back and forth was just written to perfection, and there was so much chemistry and angst that when they finally do get together, you can literally feel the sparks jumping off the pages! If these were real people, they would literally have been made for one another.

I was captivated by their story from the very first chapter, and didn’t want to put it down until I had reached the end! It’s a love story filed with twists and turns that will have you swooning one second and crying into your pillow the next! Or maybe that’s just me!

This is one of my favourite romance reads this year

I actually really love this! I think I was in just the right mood for something a little sad and angsty, with some surprising twists in there. Jaymes Andrews is a traveling nurse, setting out to see the world when her mom has passed away. She doesn’t have much family left except for her best friend Melissa, but she’s eager to spread her wings and grow. She rents a house in Missoula, Montana, where she lives with 3 roommates. One of them is Calvin Fitzgerald, a smoke jumper. He’s cranky and focused on his job, adamant about not having a family after the tragic death of his parents and sister. Jaymes and Fitz can’t help but fall for each other, but before their HEA, they have to face lots of secrets and have some honest conversations.

Loved the heart wrenching scenes, the sadness they both carry but how they’re the key to each other’s new life. Really would like a future epilogue!

“She’s the breathtaking horizon. The canopy that slows my fall. The perfect place to land. She’s the quietude after the last flame dies.”

I absolutely loved this book! It’s so different from what I usually read. Jamie, a fearless and adventurous travel nurse, moves in with Montana firefighters and becomes captivated by Calvin Fitzgerald, the grumpy yet irresistible smokejumper. Their banter was phenomenal—you could feel the tension simmering between them, which slowly transformed into undeniable attraction.

Their dynamic was complicated by the house rule: no sleeping with roommates. But Jamie’s resilience and Calvin’s vulnerability made for a beautifully angsty slow-burn romance. I adored Jamie’s character—her bravery and openness to new experiences despite her past hardships were inspiring. Meanwhile, Calvin, whose life revolved around work, couldn’t resist Jamie’s charm and found himself opening up in ways he never expected.

The chemistry between them was electric, and the romance blended perfectly with the plot. Calvin’s guarded nature softened around Jamie, and it was heartwarming to see him laugh and enjoy life because of her. Both characters had to confront their own issues before they could fully commit to each other, making their love story even more satisfying.

The side characters were fantastic, and I’m so excited to read their stories in future books. This story is packed with angst, twists, and a romance that will have you hooked from start to finish. If you love emotional, slow-burn romances, add this one to your TBR—you won’t regret it!

Thank you, Valentine PR & Jewel E. Anne for the advance copy.

Jewel E. Ann writes another winner. Jaymes is a traveling nurse who ends up in a house with some hotshot firefighters. Calvin is a grumpy anti-relationship guy. These two have great banter and quickly fall for each other. Of course there is a twist in there that surprises you. Great read!

Jewel E. Ann has done it again with From Air, delivering a beautifully written romance that captivates from start to finish. As my second novel by this talented author, I was utterly impressed by her ability to craft a story brimming with heart, humor, and depth.

The character development in this novel was spot on, with Will and Maren feeling incredibly authentic and relatable. Their banter was witty, their chemistry electric, and every interaction had me smiling, laughing, or swooning. I found myself completely immersed in their journey, cheering for their love and feeling every emotion along the way.

This book is a shining example of why Jewel E. Ann's writing is so beloved—her storytelling is magnetic, and her characters linger in your heart long after the final page. I can’t wait to dive into the rest of this series and see what she has in store. Highly recommended for romance lovers looking for a story that hits all the right notes!

I fell in love with her writing style when I read Sunday Morning earlier this year, and was so so looking forward to reading more. From Air was out of this world!!! I loved the banter between these two characters. This was hands down some of the best banter I have seen in books, I loved the subtle revenge moments and how they would plot against one another. The build up and slow burn to their moment together was perfection. The anticipation I had leading up to every moment between Calvin and Jamie was crazy. And the PLOT TWIST!! This came out of left field and threw me for a loop like no other!! I promise you will not be disappointed reading From Air!
