Truly, is there no story that Jewel E. Ann can tell that will unequivocally wreck and heal me all at once?! The captivating prose, the deeply nuanced and layered characters, the unexpected page turning twists, and as always, the immersive and wonderfully catalytic tension between our leads ALL BURN so brightly in From Air. And the banter?! Dare I saw, Jewel bantered the hardest she’s bantered before. Jewel delivers yet another emotionally rich, beautifully told, and intense but endlessly heartfelt love story that squeezed my heart so tightly in a way only Jewel E. Ann can do. I adored this first outing in the Wildfire world, and I can’t wait for more!

There’s something so effortlessly in the way Jewel captures the very breath of her characters. She deftly digs underneath their layers to flay them open in a way that feels so vulnerable, but also somehow emotionally liberting all at once. Her character-forward, psychologically and emotionally immersive approach to story telling makes for stories that are wonderfully immersive- it’s why they HURT so much, why they hit us in the core of our hearts. Because Jewel not only exposes the very being of her characters- damages and all, but in going so she helps us find pieces of ourselves, our own damages and insecurities and passions, that are amplified in the way we connect to her characters. It’s deliciously existential, and makes for a heck of a rollercoaster, but it’s also why her stories hit us so deeply. Because at the core- this story (and her others) are about our HUMANNESS…and how the broken pieces we bear can be healed by the most human emotion of all…LOVE.

Jamie and Fitz are such lovable characters, and they both captured my heart straight away, even with Fitzy’s grumpy mercurial start. Jamie is deeply charming- she’s full of light and love, but she’s also wonderfully sassy and witty. She rubs fits in all the wrong..and then right LOL…ways, which makes for some epic chemistry. The push-pull attraction and the banter are top tier- and the forbidden nature of their dynamic adds even more juicy tension. And Fitz, oh my heart, he’s the classically broken Jewel hero that has SO much to unpack, and it just takes the right connection to catalyze the opening of his heart- and Jamie just does this.

Of course, Jewel gives us the most angsty love story and then adds in her own epic twists. The only thing I’ve learned to expect with JEA is that it’s going to be UNEXPECTEDi in every way. I cried, I laughed, I swooned. My heart hurt, but it also healed. Love is never easy in a JEA story, but that’s what makes it all the more magical….all the more rewarding. Heartbreak somehow makes the heart love stronger.

I can not wait for more from this world, and I know every story will be as captivating as the last.

"But if we stay tethered to the past, how will we know if, in the future, we can fly?"

This story had me in a chokehold in the most unexpected way. I always go into a Jewel book expecting her to rip my heart out and while there definitely was some emotional damage I felt like the love was just pouring out the pages and into my heart. Jamie and Fitz gave me butterflies and goosebumps and all the gooey feelings that come with finding your person. The banter between them was absolutely addicting, their chemistry practically sizzled off the charts, and I could not keep the smile off my face and Jamie slowly wormed her way into Fitz's orbit.

This story had me giggling one moment and tearing up the next, but I couldn't get enough of it. I adored these characters. Jamie's quirkiness and Fitz's broodiness were the ultimate yin and yang, and they couldn't be more perfect. There are ups, downs, and curveballs, but ultimately, there's love—SO MUCH LOVE. And I couldn't have asked for a more perfect story and I can't wait for more in this world.

Wow! A lot happened. I cried, I laughed, and I felt all those warm and fuzzies. I will say that the first 45% was a bit slow. I could see the other shoe waiting to drop and things were moving so slowly, I always walked away from it. But boy am I glad I didn’t. I loved the twist and turns. I will say this is not a light hearted romance, it’s heavy and the main characters work through a lot of emotions on their own and with each other. I was a bit frustrated with the ending and the resolution, but ultimately we got that HEA we all love and crave! I will for sure be reading Jewel again!

I loved Calvin and Jamie! It was such a beautifully written story and I couldn't put it down!

Calvin was such a grump and fought his feelings for Jamie with everything he had! You could feel the tension between the two coming off the pages! Jamie had such a unique storyline that definitely kept me on the edge of my seat!

As hard as it was at times, I thought the distance between the two was done so well and was balanced perfectly with the banter and humor between the characters.

“I’m unsure if I despise Calvin Fitzgerald or if he’s officially my newest obsession.”

This was my first book by this author and definitely won’t be my last. I loved this group of characters and their dynamic. Calvin’s a firefighter (to put it lightly) who doesn’t let anyone in no one knows about his past and he likes it that way. Jaymes is a travel nurse who wants to see the world and gets a job in Missoula. She becomes the fourth roommate in the group and slowly chips at Calvin’s rough exterior.

This one hurt my heart and then put it back together and that’s my favorite type of book. These two get put through it, but it’s all worth it in the end.

“Because not kissing you became too exhausting.”

“You’re right. I deserve everything, so do the right fucking thing, and give it to me.”

“It was anger . . . distress and suffering. You can suck all of my fingers and all ten toes if that’s what does it for you, but it won’t ever make me weak in the knees.” “I bet there’s somewhere I could put my mouth that would make you weak in the knees.”

“Do you like when I’m inside of you?” He moves his fingers slowly in and out. “Y-yes.” He adds a third finger. “G-god . . . damn . . .” My nails dig into his shoulders while my abs tighten. “How far are we taking this, Jaymes?” “All the way.” I blink. It’s slow and heavy, like the need he’s building with his touch.

“Am I yours?” she murmurs. “You’re mine.” She brings my hand to the back of her neck. “Are you mine?” I kiss her palm and wrist. “I’m yours.”

She’s the breathtaking horizon. The canopy that slows my fall. The perfect place to land. She’s the quietude after the last flame dies.

I ground him. And he makes me soar.

How could I possibly pick only a couple quotes to share? This book was EVERYTHING. The way I’m begging friends to add this to their tbr is insane. I’m in love with this book. Wholeheartedly in love. Nothing I have read compares to this! The way I felt while reading, every emotion conveyed, the way I fell head over heels for these characters…it’s perfection! Jamie and Calvin’s development and their story was so painful but so beautiful!! I will never stop screaming about this book. Wow. WOW

Jewel is such an amazing writer! I loved Fitz and Jaymes so much. Jaymes grew up homeschooled and never left Florida. After her mother passed away she became a nurse. And she’s ready to spread her wings. So she decides to become a travel nurse and her first job is in Montana. Fitz is a smoke jumper and his job is the only thing that will ever matter to him. He decided a long time ago that he would never have a relationship, or get married. He’s not cut out for it and doesn’t have those feelings. Then him and his roommates get a new roommate. And he doesn’t know how to take her. Jaymes wants to fix him. He’s made it clear to her that there’s nothing to fix. I absolutely love Fitz. And I loved how open Jaymes is. And willingly gives love knowing that it’s not going to be reciprocated. The constant banter between them is hilarious. This book had all the feels. If I could give it more then five stars I would! I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

4.25 out of 5 stars (rounded up).

Wow - just wow! This was not only my first Jewel E. Ann book but it was also my first firefighter romance and I think I need to read so many more of both!

Jaymes and Calvin (or Jamie and Fitz) were the most captivating and realistic representation of forbidden love and true tension. One of my absolute weaknesses is a he falls first and a tortured soul MMC and to have BOTH in one book was amazing. Also… the spice? So so good!

The twists and turns in this book also had me truly gasping out loud multiple times and kept what I expected to be a typical romance book, way more interesting!

I usually struggle with age gap and miscommunication tropes but in this book neither bothered me at all!

Highly recommend this to anyone who likes romance books!

I need this on my bookshelf asap!

I thought i was prepared for the emotional roller coaster From Air would take me on--but I was so wrong. While my heart is happy in the end, I cried twice and even had to take a five minute personal break at work to pull myself together when everything imploded.

I can't get enough of this new series! I'm already diving into the next book because I'm absolutely in love with the found family that's been created. The story is filled with heartbreak and tragedy, but it's also brimming with laughter and love, making it impossible to put down until the very last page.

The audiobook was phenomenal--I devoured it in a single day! That's saying a lot, considering I'm juggling three other books right now, but they all got pushed aside the moment I started Jamie and Calvin's story.

From Air is another engrossing tale from this author that I couldn't put down. The story gives us a great mix of angst, tension, and emotion as it follows Jamie, a travel nurse, who moves in with a group of firefighters and soon gets pulled into a tension-filled dynamic with smokejumper Fitz, a grumpy firefighter.

The banter between these two will have you amused. There were laugh out loud moments, fun and s m e x y moments, and even emotional moments but it was the forbidden yet undeniable attraction and chemistry between these two that kept me glued to the pages.

The story really will take you on an emotional roller-coaster ride especially with the plot twist. It was a well written tale with amazing characters growth and I will definitely recommend it to romance lovers.

Jewel E. Ann did not disappoint again! This book was absolutely amazing! I could not put this book down! The emotions through out the book was perfect it kept you hooked and wanting more.

Jaymes is a traveling nurse and takes a job in Montana where she moves in with a group of firefighters. That's when she meets Calvin. Calvin is a man is consumed by his job; he is a smoke jumper. He didn't have any time for relationships or starting a family since his job was so demanding. The humor mixed with emotions was a perfect combo.

I can't wait to read the next book in this series. From Air will live rent free in my mind and my heart!

“You kissed me, Fitz. Twice. Why did you kiss me?”
“Because not kissing you became too exhausting.”

I've been finding a lot of new favourite authors this year, and Jewel E. Ann is now among them. HOW IS THIS BOOK SO GOOD?? I knew instantly that I'd love it, and I just kept falling in love with it more and more with every page.

I couldn't stop smiling and giggling at Jamie and Fitz's banter, they were SO ADORABLE. I loved them together and their will-they-won't-they situation drove me crazy (in a good way).

Both of them were well-developed as characters, they felt like real people. The supporting characters were all amazing too, I'd love to have a Will, Maren and Melissa in my life.

I liked learning about different types of firefighters, and what it all is they do. Like jumping out of planes. So cool. I actually didn't even think about that, so I learned something new at my big age of 26, hah.

There was a mystery element to the story, but it doesn't come into play till later in the book. If you thought you were going to be on an emotional roller-coaster solely because of the romance, you'd be wrong. That mystery had so many twists and turns, I'm surprised this author doesn't write thrillers.

And the pain that came with it...oof. LISTEN, I WAS NOT READY, OKAY? From Air had me sitting there crying, even knowing it HAD TO have a happy ending, but I couldn't help it, I was reduced to a puddle of tears.

It's clear to me now that this author likes to draw every single emotion out of her readers, and I feel like I have to thank her for it. Yes, even the tears. There are literally some still forming in my eyes as I'm writing this, I was THAT affected by this story.

I was panicking during the last 4-6 percent of the book, because I had no idea how things would be wrapped up, if the story would have to continue in book two etc, but luckily everything ended well, and I'm left with lasting emotional damage, yay!

On a happier note, this book is dual PoV, and it's done brilliantly. I enjoyed being in both Jamie and Fitz's heads, getting to know them and seeing them fall in love with each other one step at a time. But if we're being honest, it was more like a big leap than a step, those two recognised one another as "their person" immediately and you can't convince me otherwise.

I can't wait for the next book in this series, I know it's going to be just as lovely as this one. I also need to go and read more of Jewel E. Ann's books ASAP.

*Thank you to the author, publishers and Valentine PR for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

Jamie is a traveling nurse. Her latest job is in Montana living with three other roommates. One of them being Fitz, a smoke jumper who is grumpy and guarded. Jamie's bright, sunshine personality slowly weasels her way into his heart whether he likes it or not. But their journey from friends to more is anything but easy.

This book was so addicting. I don't think I'll ever be able to forget Jamie and Fitz. First off, Jamie was such a fun heroine. She was sassy and passionate. Fitz needed someone like her to make him happy. To make him live again after his heartbreaking past left him broken. The scenes where he was vulnerable with her really got me. There was one passage in particular of something that Fitz said to Jamie which I reread so many times.

The banter! My gosh it was witty and entertaining. One of the house rules was that roommates were not allowed to hookup. This created so much tension and off the charts chemistry between Jamie and Fritz. I was dying for them to be together.

I really had trouble putting it down during the second half. The more intense and passionate their relationship became, the more I just knew something was going to happen. Let me tell you the twists were unexpected. There were so many layers within the storyline and depth to the characters. Yet another incredible read from one of my favorite authors.

“Jaymes, if I were normal, I’d love you enough. The problem is, I’m not normal, so I’d love you too much.”

Gaaaaah!!! My heart. This book was perfection. I loved every minute of this two banter away to love. Fitz is your typical grump. Doesn’t need attachments, loves his job but deep down inside is just broken to pieces, but he loves intensely.
Jaime is a dreamer, someone that once to see the world, who loves too much and wants to give. This two had a crazy pull, their chemistry scorched the pages, their banter was just hilarious. Fitz gave and Jaime took but she gave it right back to him and I loved it.
Jaime was such a strong character, she’s a dreamer that wants to see the world, she is funny and caring. She is a traveling nurse and her job takes her to meet new friends and Fitz. I loved how she loved Fitz, unassuming! She was there for him, she gave him what he needed and it was just beautiful to see.
The twist in this book had me gasping, my heart hurt for them, but the sun always shines and this two deserve the world.
This was such a beautiful story, it made my heart happy in so many ways, I couldn’t put it down!

A must read.

Wow, just wow. Fitz and Jamie have something incredibly special, I adored every page of getting to know them. The set up, the relationship building, The twist, it was all done incredibly well. I had my suspicions of what would be revealed but it was so much more heartbreaking than I had prepared myself for. There were some really beautiful moments and some really gut wrenching ones that made the story so much more real.

As the first in a new series I'm beyond excited for what’s to come if they’ll be anything like this one. It’s spicy, it’s sweet, it’s 100% unputdownable. If you love age gaps, grumpy sunshine, roommates, and a hint of forbidden romance you will absolutely adore this one. I cannot recommend it enough.

I love a broody, tortured hero, and Jewel E. Ann served up a great one with Calvin Fitzgerald!

Jamie and Calvin start off on the wrong foot -- mainly because he's a broody a##hole and a grumpy loner. But little by little, she gets him to open up and he starts feeling things for her that have him running scared. As different as they were, these two characters just *got* each other. Both of them don't have much in the way of blood family, but rather their family by design in their friends, so they do have that in common. I loved going along for the ride as their barbs turned to flirty banter. But there's a housemate rule about not getting involved with a roommate -- plus Jaime, a traveling nurse, is only in town for a few months -- so anything developing between them threatens to be over before it really gets started.

There are some twists in this story that leads to a lot of angst. Jewel E. Ann always does a great job of delivering an angsty romance that will pull on your heartstrings, and From Air is no different. I was rooting for this couple from the start, and there are a lot of winding paths for Jamie and Calvin to travel. But at the end, From Air is a beautiful story of love, acceptance, overcoming tragedy, and so much more!

I wasn't ready to say goodbye to these two characters, as well as their friends, at the end of this story! But I did find some solace in knowing that this is the first book in a new series!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

I was a little hesitant to read the room mate trope. It’s not my favorite.

But I should have known better being a Jewel E Ann reader. This book is so much more than that. Jewel E Ann just has a way of writing these tropes and diving so much deeper. She’ll make you laugh, cry and swoon. Her stories will break your heart but her incredible characters will put it back together. Sorry I’ll never doubt you again.

If you love the forbidden roommate vibe, good banter, and a little twist to the story I believe you’ll love this one.

Wow talk about starting a new series with an absolute page turner of note !! From Air had me laughing, crying, broke me and put me back together. Jamie our determined, strong travelling nurse and Fitz a grumpy, damaged smoke jumper set my kindle alight with the chemistry, passion, love and healing.

Jamie first meets Fitz when she moves in with him and two of his friends. Just one "rule" - roommates are out of bounds !! So despite the instant fizz between them, they did resist which results in some whitty banter. Forbidden love is always something to push against and Jamie loved pushing Friz's buttons, whilst slowly digging into the layers he had kept so well hidden.

Jamie and Fitz's journey takes them both to places neither could have imagined going. The emotions of past traumas, grief and pasts best le3ft behind will tear you apart. But be prepared for twists you won't see coming. I am totally sold on this series and cannot waqit to see where it goes.
