"I’m unsure if I despise Calvin Fitzgerald or if he’s officially my newest obsession."
From Air is ✨️my✨️ newest obsession. I'm not sure what Jewel puts in her books, but I'm 100% addicted. I can always count on each one to hook me from the first page and consume my whole being until I finish, and even afterwards, too. Every book of hers becomes a new favorite, and no surprise From Air is the newest one.
"My person. Calvin Fitzgerald is my dream—the kind that doesn’t come true and ends with a pounding heart and an aching reality."
Days later and I'm still constantly thinking about this book 🥹 One of my favorite reads of the year!! The evidence is all the highlighting and bookmarking I've done. This book has it all: spice, the best banter, emotion, and something you don't see coming. I've said it once and I'll say it again, Fitz and Jamie are EVERYTHING.

Jewel E Ann fictional men will capture my heart EVERY TIME. I loved this book and was immediately obsessed with Jaymes and Fitz. It had a lighter tone to it while still having the angsty vibes that this author writes so well.

Thank you for the opportunity to read this arc.
I loved this story. I signed up for this arc after reading the synopsis and getting interested but when I started it and did not remember exactly what it was about and went in kind of blind. It was the best decision.
The raw emotions, the laughter and friendship, and the writing of this book were all so amazing!
There was a situation that I predicted, related to our amazing FMC Jamie but there as a plot twist that I definitely did not predict.
I loved Fitz, how closed off he was, but so so funny and sweet either way. I loved how he got closer and closer to Jamie, and that he never even dreamed of “stopping” her from living her dreams.
I loved her love of her job and patients, and her conflicting feelings about it all.
I definitely want more of this universe and characters, and more of this author!

Jewel E. Ann is an author who can devastate me every time, From Air is heartwrenching. I adored Fitz, he's the perfect amount of indifferent but you can feel his need for love and struggle to hide his feelings from Jamie. Jamie's sweet, and maybe a little naive, her patience and kindness shines through, The banter had me cracking up and feeling furious in the same sentence. Fitz is definitely one of Jewel's characters you love to hate in the beginning but end up just loving. The twists, the chemistry, it's all amazing and kept me engrossed. Definitely recommend, can not wait for the second book!

I really liked this one as it was a bit different and kind of refreshing. Jamie and Fitz went through so much in their past. I really like the tension between the two and I actually laughed a couple times. Jamie is a travel nurse for 6 months (a reason he’s there) and roommates with a couple firefighters and Fitz is the grumpy one. There was a bit of mystery to be solved but I’m glad Jamie broke Fitz’s walls.
I received this book at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

This book..I'm trying to put it into words what I felt while reading this book. It packs so much emotions that I was not expecting to feel. I went in blind and listened to the audio at the same time. It was a experience that I hadn't felt in a long time. The narrators bought this story to life, the emotions were brought out so perfectly that you felt yourself wiping away a tear and really getting into how the characters were going thru. Towards the end of this book, I had to step away multiple times cause the tears were just rolling down my face so hard, that I couldn't read or listen anymore. My emotional quota was full. This book is one that will stick with me for a long time. I still feel Fitz and Jaymes story in my soul. This book will change you or at least it did me.
You have two broken characters, one is determined to travel the world and help people. Jaymes is a traveling nurse, working wherever they need her. She gets a job in Montana that she has no idea that it will change her life for the best. The journey that Jaymes goes on will just break your heart. She loves hard and wears her emotions on her sleeve. She knows very little about her past, other then what her mom told her when she got older. She has her bestie and her roommates that care deeply for her. And then there's Fitz.. the grumpy standoffish fire jumper who doesn't know how to open up or really show or say he loves you. He has a past as well that is heartbreaking as well. H
Fitz is a lovable grump. You seriously can't help but love him. He's holding onto the past and refuses to let anyone in. He feels comfort in the fires that he fights and doesn't want anyone to worry about him.
Jaymes and Fitz create such a great friendship that she calls him, "her person." The one person in life that brings her calmness. I love the banter between them. The times where they call each other out for being idiots and just being there for one another. They make this work despite at times being thousands of miles apart. I just love them together!
The past has a way of catching up to you and with this one, it just one that you have to experience yourself. It will tear your heart out.
If you can't tell by now. I so loved the book, the characters and the emotions that was felt throughout this entire book. It's truly a thing of beauty!

What a book! If I could only describe what this book is in what word I’d said ‘Love’ this is the definition of love, what love is, what we wish love to be, what everyone is searching for. Which pretty much sums up this story too.
The FMC James is packing up her life in her car and off to travel the US as a travelling mental health nurse. Her first stop and her first house share also happens to have the grumpiest man she’s ever met, the MMC Calvin (Fitz). He’s a smoke jumper and even his friends can’t penetrate his cold exterior. He works, sleeps and works.
Jamie is ‘tasked’ with fixing Fitz before she leaves, a job she takes a great deal of enjoyment out of when she realises that his whit and sarcasm are almost as integral to his personality and DNA as in hers.
Jamie isn’t looking for anything, especially in a grumpy, older, roommate but she’s can’t deny somehow he’s her person and it’s starting to look like fate was a bigger factor in both their lives than they could have ever imagined.
This book was a breath of fresh air. The characters, their relationship, the development, their banter, this book was funny, captivating, wholesome, spicy and downright beautiful. To the way it was written, the plot of the book, the emotion and the love.
I absolutely loved it, it was one of the easiest books to read because of how seamless you could fall into these characters. It was like reading a text exchange between friends and sitting back and enjoying the show.
One of my favourite books of 2025.
5⭐️3🌶️
I was extremely fortunate to receive this book as an Arc but the thoughts and opinions are completely my own.
Thank you @Jewel E.Ann for this beautiful book @valentinePR

The banter. The looks. The flirtatiousness. The twists!
JEA has a way of creating a story that is not only romantic but also twisted and mind-blowing. "From Air" was no exception yet I NEVER SAW THE TWIST COMING. With its blend of humor, emotion, and hopeful moments, "From Air" is another perfect story from Jewell.
Our leading characters are respectful of their own boundaries and abilities as well as each other. Jamie and Fitz have this chemistry that's far more than sexual. There's a friendship and understanding between the friends (yes, friends wink wink) that makes their journey absolutely lovely to see unfold.

This is my top read for the year!
It is written in Jamie and Fitz's alternating POV. Jamie is a young traveling nurse, and Fitz is a fire jumper. There is an age gap but it didn't dominate the storyline like I was worried it would. I instantly loved Fitz. You could tell there was something more to him and seeing him open up was lovely. Both he and Jamie have experienced tragic loss in their past, but I still wasn't prepared for how the plot twist evolved. This is part of a series but can very much be read as a standalone.

I would have read this book no matter the storyline but she had me at a house full of firefighters. I've no idea how it happens but every book this author writes manages to break me emotionally. This was a story that captivated me from the start, like the characters of Jamie and Fitz it was complex. I loved that there were moments of humour and banter that sat easily beside the tender and sexual charged moments. The angst and pain when those moments of realisation dawned, when the truth of the past was revealed were truly heartbreaking. The author managed to weave a story full of tension and surprises but also with an unforgettable love story.

This was my first time reading something from this author and I tried. I did. I wanted to like this. I just couldn't connect with these characters. They were just wayyyyy to much for me.
DNF 41%.

A slow burn opposites attract romance. This is a roommate to lovers story. Not enemies and not friends but with elements of sarcasm and flirting that helps overcome years of pain, anger, loss and stubborn determination.
Calvin Fitzgerald is opposed to love. Fighting the pain and loss he suffered losing his family he makes the decision to avoid love and therefore avoid pain. As a smoke jumper he gets his adrenaline kicks and doesn’t have to worry about leaving anyone behind or anyone worrying about him.
Jaymes Andrews is a psychiatric nurse doing temporary work at different hospitals to see the world. Landing as the roommate of Calvin, the other 2 roommates joke that maybe she can fix him. Jamie has pain of her own although she welcomes love with open arms.
Unable to avoid each other and growing closer Fitz still tries to stick to his stubborn ways while Jamie outwardly tries to accept his point of view.
Their worlds crash down around them when Jamie makes a shocking discovery. This was a twist I did not see happening and the book took on a more emotional plot from this point.
I really enjoyed reading this story and it tugged at my heart strings on more than one occasion.
Thanks to Valentine pr via NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this.

“From Air” is the first book in Jewel E. Ann’s Wildfire series and offers a compelling mix of romance and drama. It’s an age-gap, enemies-to-friends-to-lovers story featuring a traveling psychiatric nurse and a dedicated smoke jumper.
Jamie takes a job in Montana and moves in with a group of firefighters. The only rule in the house? No dating each other. Of course, that doesn’t stop her from noticing Calvin “Fitz” Fitzpatrick. Fitz is focused on his career, often grumpy, and struggles in social situations. Still, Jamie is intrigued. What starts as teasing and banter grows into something deeper. Their chemistry is strong, and their connection becomes harder to ignore as secrets and personal challenges come to the surface.
This story delivers on humor, tension, and emotional depth. Jamie and Fitz have great interactions, and their dynamic is engaging from start to finish. I enjoyed their journey and look forward to more in this series. Jewel E. Ann is one of my favorites romance authors, and I highly recommend giving this one a read.
Thank you @authorjeweleann, Montlake Publishing, NetGalley and @valentine_pr_ for the #gifted ebook arc. All opinions expressed are my own.

I received a ARC from Netgalley and absolutely loved this book! The banter and slow burn. 👌
I liked the story line and how their story unfolds. I would recommend this book to other romance lovers understanding there is some angst, twist and turns along the way and tears.

3.5⭐️
the last 25% was the only part that really had me hooked. it was shocking (had my jaw on the floor the entire time) and heartbreaking and honestly, although this book has an hea, I highly doubt jaime & fitz would still be together after the epilogue ends. too much hurt, searing pain and chilling trauma took place. I liked the friendship jaime formed with maren and the others, though. the first 75% of this story was all over the place for me. it was overly complicated, unnecessarily dramatic (fitz was really irritating at times). there is a lot heaviness to this story, so i would definitely check triggers before reading (especially for the last 25%). i just feel like the author was just trying to fill the gaps with unnecessary behaviour from fitz in order to get to the actual plot. thank you to valentine pr & netgalley for the arc.

This was my first Jewel E. Ann book and I absolutely loved it so much 🥰 I am so excited to read more by her!!!
Jamie is a travel nurse who goes to Montana for a 6 month assignment. She stays in a house with 3 roommates who happen to be firefighters. There is only one rule to follow, no sleeping with any roommates or you get kicked out.
The chemistry, angst and witty banter between Fitz and Jamie was 🔥
The secrets of their past lives that unfold and the emotions in this book is absolutely incredible!

I could not put this amazing book down!!! My only wish is that I didn’t wait so long to read a book by this author!! I can’t wait to read more by her!!!
Thank you @netgalley and @valentine_pr_ for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.

Good heavens! My heart! From Air swept me off my feet with hilarious comebacks, tragic fate, and unbounded love. From the moment you open the cover, you’re introduced to characters who become immediate companions despite their flaws and struggles. It’s an unforgettable, heartfelt journey with some gut-wrenching surprises in store.
Jaymes “Jamie” Andrews is a traveling nurse with a huge heart. Her new job brings her to Missoula, Montana, where she shares a house with three roommates: Will, the player; Maren, the spitfire; and Fitz, the grumpy jerk and her new pet project. He’s hiding some deep-seated feelings that Jamie wants to explore because she’s a fixer. But Fitz isn’t having it. Some things are beyond repair.
Calvin “Fitz” Fitzgerald is a smoke jumper defined by his traumatic and heartbreaking past that shaped into the person he is today. His emotional baggage leads him to his go-to defense mechanisms of snarky comments and sarcasm and putting up walls when he feels threatened or vulnerable. Yet, beneath the tough exterior lies a heart that craves connection, love, and understanding, and the beautiful, kind Jaymes Andrews can satisfy all his cravings, but at what cost?
From the start, sparks fly between Jamie and Fitz as they use humor to hide their attraction and use friendship to hide anything more. I love Jamie’s drive and selfless compassion as she waits for Fitz to master his feelings. Fitz is distant, and when he realizes his love for Jamie, it is incredibly romantic and painful as it overwhelms him. Fitz loves fiercely, and it’s beautiful to see.
This story wouldn’t be complete without Jamie and Fitz’s wonderful friends, who provide love, support, and some hard truths. Their bonds add layers to a finely crafted plot, and I hope to read more about them in the series.
Jewell E. Ann’s writing is superb. She has memorable characters and an incredible storyline. Ann masterfully manipulated my emotions from start to finish by making me laugh out loud one minute and reducing me to tears the next. Genius!
I highly recommend From Air by Jewell E. Ann. She connects with readers on a deeply personal level. The clever banter balances out the heart-wrenching grief and traumatic loss. It’s a beautiful story that should be experienced fully and embraced wholeheartedly. Pick it up, you won’t be disappointed.
Thank you to Ms. Ann for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

Overall Grade: A
Tropes: close proximity/roommates; smokejumper MMC; travel nurse FMC; angst; second chance
“Sometimes, for something beautiful to take to life and grow, everything around it has to be sacrificed. All we see is the destruction, but if you wait long enough — if you’re patient — magic happens.”
These words, prophetic and beautifully drawn, embody the truth of Jewel E. Ann’s From Air. This newest book, the first book of a new series — The Wildfire Series — is one of my favorite stories in 2024. I began reading Jewel E. Ann with her book, Look the Part. The witty banter between the uptight MMC and the fluidly intriguing and beguiling FMC was the draw in that story. Their immediate chemistry, the hate to love, the emotionally uptight MMC drive that story forward. Until a moment that has often been characterized as the JEA Effect — the moment in the story that comes from nowhere and takes the reader out emotionally. It’s usually shocking and rarely forecasted, so it turns your head deeper into the pages of her book. For me, that moment is where I fall more deeply in love with Ann’s storytelling.
From Air has the same feel, for me, as Look The Part. It isn’t the same story. It inhabits new worlds in the JEA universe: travel nurse and smokejumper. It’s even set in a different space, one that changes due to the FMC’s occupation. However, the witty banter that Ann writes well and the chemistry that feels complicated and messy are the mainstays of From Air. In those spaces, you find Ann’s brilliance as a writer with crisp and quotable prose. There is the JEA moment —- and it comes from nowhere. I’m usually able to see the foreshadowing of plot points, but, once again, she kept me off-balance. As a multi-year reader of romance, I loved it. My heart hurt for the characters, and the only promise I had of surviving this turn of the story was the knowledge that I was reading a romance — the promise of a HEA. And that happily ever after is perfect, more poetry in storytelling motion.
Calvin “Fitz” and Jaymes “Jamie” took me on a complicated journey filled with humor, tension, sadness, and pain. Other beautifully written characters, like their roommates Will and Maren, Fitz’s grandmother, and Jamie’s best friend, Melissa, add dimension to the story and provide hope for the future stories in this series.
As I said at the beginning of this review, From Air is one of my top five romances of 2024. Jewel E. Ann illustrates her dexterity in drawing stories that interrogate social norms, incite intense emotions, and beguile her readers. I can only look forward to the other books in this compelling series.

This book is a master piece and I think one of my fave reads of the year, definitely in my top five. I am absolutely blown away.
Jaymes (Jamie) wants to see the world after losing her mom to cancer a few years back. She signs up as a traveling nurse and take her first job in Missoula, Montana. She ends up living with a house full of firefighters, Will, Maren and the brooding Calvin Fitzgerald who is married to his job as a smokejumper fighting wild fires. Jamie is a natural fixer, and makes Calvin her pet project…what they don’t expect is to learn maybe it was destiny they crossed each others paths all along. 🫶🏻
This book is just phenomenal I am having a hard time putting all of my feelings into words. The banter, not only between Jamie & Fitz but between all of the roommates was top tier and being married to a firefighter highly accurate.
I also related a lot to Jamie being an empath myself, although I’m not a Virgo I am a Pisces 😂. Calvin, ugh where do I begin, sometimes I did have a hard time reading his chapters, because being a first responder spouse myself I could totally see where he was coming from being married to his job, focusing on the good deeds he does as a smoke jumper so he doesn’t have to worry about anyone losing him.
Their love story was just beautiful they seamlessly fell in love there was no pressure. I adored it. The way Jewel discusses grief, and healing, and moving and complicated emotions was just really moving. This book really has a special place in my heart.
If you love…
🔥banter
🫶🏻roomies to lovers
🔥found family
🫶🏻the sweetest friendships
🔥secret tattoos
🫶🏻a FMC who does not give up on the brooding MMC #l
Def check this book out! It is the first in the Wildfire Series by Jewel and I cannot wait for the next book!

Thank you to Jewel E. Ann & Valentine PR for the ARC copy of From Air!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
THIS BOOK!!! Oh my gosh you guys this book was incredible! I love books with banter and of all the books I’ve read, this is by far the most packed with banter from start to finish. I cannot get over how great this book was and really hope there’s more to come from this story in the future!
From Air is a dual POV book. Jaymes (Jamie) & Calvin (Fitz) find themselves under the same roof with two other roommates when Jamie moves to Missoula for her first travel nursing position on a psychiatric unit. Calvin is a grumpy smoke jumper who becomes Jamie’s focus because he shuts everyone out and she wants to know why. This book has a twist I didn’t see coming and really shocked me. Such a great read, I highly recommend it!!
P.S. I need Calvin Fitzgerald’s origami tissue flowers ASAP!!
