A wonderful picture book about learning how to reconcile with life's choices. I definitely see this book being a staple in storytimes at my library!
I received an ARC of this children's book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book is adorable. The pictures are so cute and so is the story!

I loved this book. It is about waffle who can’t decide on anything! She has so many choices how can she decide? Waffle tries out lots of techniques, but they don’t work. Can Waffle ever make a decision again?
This book will teach kids it’s okay to make decisions and whatever you decide doesn’t have to be your decision forever. This book is great for ages 3+
It was really well worded and the illustrations were amazing. This is a definite five star read.
I think that this book accomplishes what it sets out to do, which is provide some helpful tools for kids who struggle with decision-making. I found the artwork to be really well done and detailed and the overall story to be successful. I understand this is released by a psychology-focused publisher, but it just feels too clinical. The voice of the writer isn’t very engaging and has very little personality. It isn’t necessarily an enjoyable read as-is, which makes it less likely for readers to actually get to the message contained 2/3 through.
Decision making is a tricky process - especially when you're a waffle who can't make up her mind. My favorite part about this book is the different solutions that Waffle goes through in order to help her feel confident making a decision. There isn't just one right answer when it comes to how to make a decision and Waffle tries a few different ways before she finds something that works for her. I also loved that Waffle acknowledges the consequences of making a choice. When she decides to wear a swimsuit to school, she realizes that, although she was able to make a choice, it wasn't the best choice she could have made in that situation. It also touches on following along with others and how that might seem fun at first but it ended up not being what Waffle really wanted. These are some huge topics for kids to try and tackle as they navigate decision making and this book is a very fun addition/resource for those conversations!

Super cute and sweet children’s book about choosing and making choices. Only thing I would change is how many times the author said Oops. I found that too redundant and annoying.
In Waffle Can't Decide, by Brenda S. Miles serves up a delightful story that cleverly plays on the term "waffling" to teach children about decision making. Each decision showcases the consequences of choices in a fun and relatable way for young readers.
The narrative is both engaging and educational, encouraging children to think critically about their decisions while enjoying the whimsical world of food.
The illustrations by Monika Filipina perfectly complements the story, bringing the delicious waffle-themed adventure to life.
Overall, Waffle Can't Decide is a fantastic addition to any child's bookshelf, blending humor with valuable lessons about decision making in a way that is accessible and entertaining.
Waffle Can't Decide is a great picture book that focuses on young Waffle's struggle to make decisions big and small. I really appreciated the way this book framed different types of decisions & did not talk down to kiddos that struggle to make them quickly. The book gave several different options to help you make decisions and discussed what decisions were big and what decisions were smaller.
Thanks to NetGalley, Brenda S. Miles, and the American Psychological Association for allowing me to read and review this book! My thoughts and opinions are my own.
This title helps children “zoom in” to decision making in order to make decisions smaller and more manageable. The characters and setting are cute throughout the book and would be relatable to kids who select this book.
The author’s note at the back provides background science and some discussion questions to help an adult reader connect the dots for their younger readers, which is very helpful.
If you have a child in your life that struggles to make decisions, then I would highly recommend this book.
Waffle Can't Decide is an adorable picture book about a waffle that has a hard time making decisions and the ways that she tries to overcome it. The way it's described feels very accurate and accessible for young children. The story line and illustrations are engaging enough that all children should enjoy this book, whether they have a problem with making decisions or not.
As an adult, my favorite part is the Reader's Note at the end that has some very helpful and practical tips.

The book was beautifully written. The author made careful word choices that were very impactful. Overall, the book was well written and I did really enjoy it.
Absolutely LOVED this new children’s book about decision making with the main character named Waffle! Such an appropriate name as she waffles and hems and haws to make decisions. Delightfully told with strategies to build new ways to make decisions and gain new perspectives on the importance of different decisions. Highly recommend for the home, classroom, or library. Thank you NetGalley and APA for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion. Pub Date: Oct 08 2024
