As both an animal loved and a loved of the strange and weird I absolutely loved this book. There is so much information and facts packed into full pictures and tied up in a vibrant and fun way. My kids are having so much fun learning about each of these creatures and sharing facts about them with their friends and our family.

CUTE ANIMALS THAT COULD KILL YOU DEAD is a fun, humorous and informative book about animals readers may not know. Packed with information and written in a snappy, lively voice, readers will be entertained as they learn the true nature of these cuties. A nonfiction book with pizzazz.

Than you for this opportunity that allows me to read this with my children. I used this book as a read aloud and we were drawn into the world of “cute but deadly” animals and learned how they defend and prey. It was a fun read.

I know this is a kids book however, unless you are a favorite food for one of these animals, the majority of them are not going to kill a human. The majority of them are not capable of killing a human.
Also, while the cartoon illustrations are really cute it would’ve been nice to see a photo of the actual animal as well so kids can see what they really look like.
This is not something I felt I would read to a child’s. There are better books out there with this information.

Dive into the fascinating world of cute but deadly animals!
This book shares over 15 different beloved animals that are cute on the surface, but rather dangerous in real life. This includes a sea otter, a ladybug, a jumping spider, a hedgehog, and more. The book shares the scientific animal name, the average size and habitat, the food they eat, and their conservation status. They also have a scale for their cuteness levels and their danger levels.
I enjoyed the concept of this book - and I think that it is a book that could appeal to a broad range of elementary readers. The execution was a little cringey for me, but I do see the appeal and value of this book. The illustrations are one of the best parts of this book for me; they are really adorable, with lots of bright colors that will be really fun for kids to look at and accompany the words. The information in this book was also valuable, and laid out in a way that is easily understandable and readable for elementary audiences. There was some adorable back matter with real photographs of each of the animals in the book, which adds to the appeal for this nonfiction book.
The title gives me pause because 'That Could Kill You Dead' seems cringey, and a little clunky - kill you already has the implication of death. There are also some captions on the pages with each animal that cause me pause, like the Slow Loris and 'I give predators a good licking'.
Overall, I think that this book has educational appeal, and would appeal to elementary students interests in animals and obscure facts. I think that this book could be a fun read aloud with students who are learning about animals, or could be used in a lesson about animal adaptations/survival.

This book is exactly what the title states. These are cute animals with lethal attributes. I think this is good for children to understand - that cute animals or animals that society has taught us are "cute" are still wild and should be treated as such.

This was a fun cute twist to learn about potentially scary animals. I love the illustrations! They were cute and scary in the best way. Well written and easy to follow along.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for allowing me to read this ARC in an exchange for an honest review.

Full of puns and awesome facts it features animals like honey badgers and fennec foxes but dolphins and geckos. There's a picture, a textbox with statistics, and several pages that introduce the innocent and adorable looking animal before breaking down what makes them deadly be it poisons, toxins, attitude, teeth, or intelligence.

You can page through or read start to finish to be entertained and get smart!

Super cute book with colorful comic book like illustrations filled with cute animals that could kill you dead. As an adult animal lover I still enjoyed this educational children’s book. I had no idea slow lorises were poisonous or that duckbill platypus’s had a poisonous barb.

I’d definitely purchase a copy of this book for an animal loving kid in my life.

**Thanks to the author, illustrator, and publisher for the e-arc I received via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.**

4.5 stars

This is a great addition to any non-fiction collection. Love the art and the focus on cute but deadly. Huge hit with my grade school aged kids.

This review is based on an ARC. Thank you for the opportunity to review this work.

My son and I loved this book. We read it multiple times and kept going back to certain animals each night. It was informative and comical. We had so much fun and learned new things about interesting creatures. Definitely a go to read for all the kids that love dangerous or quirky animals.

This is a very cute book for animal lovers, especially younger ones, that gives basic information on some of the cuter predators in the world. I loved the illustrations, but also really appreciated that they included real photos of the animals at the end. The groupings for the animals, as well as the puns, were great. I find the title to be misleading, as the book is less about how these animals could hurt humans, and more to do with how they hunt. And some of the cut-off sentences threw me off as well, and I'd have to go back and re-read a sentence, though that could just be from how I read the little bios.

Overall, I'd absolutely recommend this to anyone who loves cute animals.

This book was super cute! My son absolutely LOVED it! Not only was it super cute for kids, I learned so much from it as well! Things I never even knew about most of the animals! I also thought the illustrations were so cute. We will definitely be purchasing once its available!

Thank you to the author, publishers and NetGalley for the ARC of this book!

Overall I liked this book. It is a fun way to get basic information about animals. I appreciated the animal facts listed on the introduction page for each animal. There were a lot of pages and animals to learn about. It reads like a fun encyclopedia. The illustrations were fun and engaging real photos of each animal were shown at the end allowing children to see what they really look like.

The writing was fun and easy to understand, Although I didn't care much for the section on each page telling you how the animal looks cute, but is actually dangerous, I understand why it was put there.

My biggest issue with this book was the title. The title implies it is going to talk about animals that you might not realize are dangerous to people, but was about cute animals who are predators in their own right.

I received an electronic ARC from SOURCEBOOKS Kids through NetGalley.
Hartman presents information about a variety of animals that may look adorable but are deadly to their prey. I appreciate the way Garcia extenuates the cuteness factor in her illustrations. Elementary level readers will enjoy the contrast between the illustrations and actuality of these animals. I appreciate the text boxes with facts for each that go along with the information provided.

Okay, y'all, we've got multiple factual issues with the ARC I got from NetGalley and the publisher. Hopefully it can be cleared up in the next two weeks before publication, but right now, I can't recommend it. Which is a shame, because otherwise it'd be a five star book.

Sea otters: 'Habitat: Oceans on all continents except Australia and Antarctica.'
Nope. *Otters* are found on all continents except Australia and Antarctica, *sea otters* are found in the Pacific Ocean off North America, Russia, and Japan.
'Conservation Status: Some otter species in California and Alaska are listed as threatened.'
I'm sure the author meant 'populations' instead of 'species'.

Flying gecko: 'These agile amphibians'
Nope. Geckos are reptiles.

Black-footed cat: '...weighing no more than a can of soup'
Nope. Your standard can of soup is 10-16 oz. 2.4 lb (38.4 oz) is the low range for female black-footed cats (males can be over five pounds). They're tied for the smallest cat species in the world, but they're not that small.

Like I said, otherwise this is a fantastic book and hopefully this will all be fixed before publication, but right now it's a pass for me.

Thank you very much to Sourcebook Kids and NetGalley for the ARC!

Super cute and informative book that my 6 year old absolutely adores! The illustrations are well done and child friendly. Not all of these animals are truly deadly to a human but the entire premise is entertaining. Definitely recommend for kids of all ages, and most fun adults.

This delightfully punny and informative book gives readers an insight into the strangest, wildest, and most ADORABLE animals on our planet.

I've highlighted my top three cuties:

🦇 Bumblebee Bat: this tiny flyer is only about 1-1.3 inches and is no bigger than a thumb. However, don't underestimate this weensy winger; it can eat up to four thousand bugs every night!

🕷️ Jumping Spider: this baby buggy has binocular vision, is extremely smart, and can jump up to fifty times the length of its body! They're cute, but I'd prefer to just read about them. 👀

🐇Sea Bunny: this page made me do a double take and a quick Google search, because I had never heard of this crazy creature. It might look sweet, but the Sea Bunny is actually a toxic carnivore! This sea slug might be slow, but they feast on toxic sea sponges that they use to convert to poison in their skin. This information might be enough to stop me from petting a Sea Bunny, but I'll have to use all my self control.

If you have an animal lover in your family, you NEED this book! Brooke Hartman's writing makes you laugh out loud, and Maria Garcia's illustrations make you say "awwww." Combined, this book makes you want to dive deeper and learn more about each animal, which is a teacher's dream.

This is a must add to any school, classroom, or home library! I already have at least 10 students in mind that this book would be perfect for.

Awesome book!! I had so much fun reading this book, and I know for certain that kids will have just as much fun (if not more) as I did. This book definitely lives up to its title - all of the animals included in the book are certainly deadly and utterly adorable. Additionally, the vocabularly used was absolutely perfect. There are a few advanced words that promote expansion of vocabulary, but it doesn't distract from the overall book, and everything still makes sense for young readers. Lastly, the illustrations were spectacular! I don't exactly know how to put it, but the illustrator definitely understood the assignment of creating vivid pictures for this book. Bravo!!

This is very cleverly done. Take a cute, cuddly animal making an anime-style please face. Then on the next page, talk about all the badass, deadly, creepy attributes of that same animal. This is a gentler alternative to the "Who Would Win" books and a more appealing alternative to other books about nature and lots of animals.

I recommend for readers who enjoy Sad Animal Facts.

Thank you for the ARC. I will purchase for my library and share with my monthly book groups.
