Hate Hex by Gina LaManna is a fast-paced paranormal romance with magical elements. The story follows Trixie, a witch who suppresses her magic, and Dominic, a vampire, as the main characters. Their intense relationship gives the book a Vampire Diaries vibe, with its mix of supernatural elements and simmering tension.

One of the strengths of Hate Hex is its pace. The story moves quickly, making it a simple, fun read that’s easy to binge in one sitting. I also appreciated the dual POV, which provided insight into both Trixie and Dominic’s perspectives, adding depth to the story.

However, despite the entertaining premise, this book wasn’t entirely for me. I struggled to connect with the characters, finding them somewhat annoying and immature at times. The world-building, especially when it came to the political aspects of the witch and vampire worlds, felt underdeveloped. With more attention to this aspect, I believe the story could have been more interesting and engaging.

Overall, Hate Hex is a light, enjoyable read with paranormal and witchy elements that is perfect if you’re looking for a quick read.

I would like to thank NetGalley, LaManna Books and the author for providing me with an eArc of this book in exchange for an honest review. <3

Thanks to NetGalley, the publishers, and the author for the free ARC.

I wanted to love this. Paranormal romcoms are a sub-genre I’ve just discovered and I enjoy the blend of chemistry, low-stakes and humour. But this one just didn’t quite get there.

It’s possible that I’ve missed other books set in the same world, but even so, the magic system and world building here was thin. There was no real explanation of how it all worked, just fluffed together answers (or non-answers).

The FMC suffered from extreme stubbornness, to the point of absurdity. She wasn’t cute or gutsy, she was just stupid. And the MMC, well, he wasn’t too fleshed out; the typical dark and broody alpha, who is really a cuddly romantic underneath.

The author has had a fabulous idea here. And I loved that the relationship between MMC and FMC was built on them spending time together rather than instalove (although that was threatened), but the characters needed more development, and the magical world to be better explored and explained.

It’s an easy, cosy read that might just be right for a reader that isn’t seeking too much mental effort.

Trixie is a witch who is trying to repress her powers and Dominic is a vampire that is drawn to her eventhough everything around them is getting complicated. Dominic is the new owner of Trixie's apartment complex and is kicking her out of her home, but not only that, she is now in the running for a position she doesn't want and can't seem to stop thinking about Dominic and runs into him everywhere.
Dominic knows he shouldn't want a witch, but for some reason he can't stop the feeling that she is meant to be with him. He knows she hates him, but he vows to keep her safe with all the crazy things that are going on around them.
I liked both of the MC of this book, but I just didn't feel connected to them in any ways. This was a fun light read, but it did jump around a bit and I felt like some story lines were left unfinished. If you are looking for a light, paranormal read for the spooky season, this is the perfect book. 3.5 stars.
Thanks to LaManna Books and Negalley for an early copy.

If you’re after a sweet romance book that is perfect for Halloween then this is for you.

Trixie is a witch living in the supernatural area of New York City. She has been repressing her magic since she was a child and makes her living as a taxi driver. Her life goes through an upheaval when she meets Dominic, a handsome vampire who happens to own her apartment building and triggers her magic. When she discovers he’s planning to sell the building it becomes an all-out war with them hexing each other.

I would describe this as soft enemies to lovers. They’re not trying to kill each other, just making their lives more inconvenient. I really enjoyed how it was set in New York but with a supernatural element to it as well as there being a supernatural council which I thought was interesting.

Things happen pretty quickly in this book, from how fast Trixie & Dom’s relationship develops to the last conflict. I knew something was coming but when it got to the last 20 pages or so I almost thought there would be a second book cause I didn’t think there were enough pages left for the conflict to be resolved. It was fast but didn’t feel overly rushed.

It’s a nice, easy romance and I thought Trixie & Dom’s dynamic was great and they had some good character development.

„I needed to kiss Trixie Gardens like my life depended on it. I was starting to think that maybe it did, because at this point, if i couldn’t have Trixie in my life, i wasn’t sure what the point was of being on this earth.”

I rated this book 2.75 out of 5 stars.

What I liked:

— the world
The magic and government system in this book seem so interesting! An entire magic bourough within New York? Fates that choose who gets to be in the government? So cool. Sadly it wasn’t explained as much as I would have liked.

— the lore
Dom and his brother have a very complicated history, which plays a big role in this book. I thought it sounded so interesting! But again, it was not explained as thoroughly as I wanted it to be.

— Emmy
She was just such a cutie. Would like a book about her!

What I did not like:

— Trixie
I did not feel any connection to her. She suppressed her magic for a long time, which is possibly going to harm her in the future — if she doesn’t take action. The thing is: that action is just releasing her magic. It is entirely possible for her to do. I get that she has her reasons for not using magic, but they are just not explained for a long time.

— “ememies to lovers”
No. There was attraction from the second they saw each other. The “enemies” part is them slightly pranking each other. It makes up like 20% of the book.

— the pace
The book just felt rushed. There was not enough time taken to show all the emotions the characters were feeling. They were more told, and not shown.

I will not be posting on my Instagram about this book. This review is available on Goodreads and StoryGraph.

This is the perfect romantic comedy if you're looking for something easy, quick, and enjoyable! Despite being insta-love, the romance was rather endearing, and the characters were endearing. Although I typically despise numerous points of view in romance novels, in this instance, it served to effectively finish the plot.

Enchanting and hilarious paranormal romantic comedy that you won’t want to miss! The story follows Trixie Gardens, a down-on-her-luck witch and taxi driver in New York’s paranormal section, who accidentally activates her powers in a rather unconventional way—by shooting a cork at a grumpy vampire’s face. This vampire, Dominic Kent, just so happens to be the billionaire owner of her apartment building.

The chemistry between Trixie and Dominic is electric, and their love-hate relationship is filled with witty banter and clever enchantments. LaManna’s writing is sharp and engaging, making it easy to get lost in the magical world she creates. The plot is fast-paced and full of twists, especially when Dominic’s vengeful brother enters the scene, forcing Trixie and Dominic to team up for survival. So much humor.

Closed door romance

Getting into the spooky season mood with this cute, paranormal romcom!! Trixie and Dom were fun and the witch&vampire romance was a nice twist on spooky reads. While this novel wasn’t a knock out of the park for me, it’s def worth a read going into fall.

Thanks NetGalley for an ARC!

I really loved the concept of this one but struggled to get into it unfortunately. It just felt like I was missing something, I didn’t feel any connection between the characters but at the same time felt like I didn’t know enough about them separately either
Perhaps a case of the right book at the wrong time but unfortunately this didn’t hit for me!

This was a cute, light-hearted, easy to read romcom that is perfect for spooky season! This was an enemies to lovers story with hilarious banter and undeniable chemistry between these paranormal characters. I am definitely hoping for a sequel because this couple (and the side characters) were fun, adorable, quirky, and I need their story to continue! I read this in less than a day, I just couldn't put it down. 💜📚

Thank you to the author and to the publisher for this ARC of Hate Hex, exchange for an honest review.

A paranormal read that just didnt do it for me unfortunately! I didnt love the "inta love" and it was also closed door which is a no for me personally!

For a romantasy novel, this was pretty good world-building. Sure, the author sets it up and then goes straight to the romance, but it was entertaining. The main couple's back-and-forth hex war that brought them emotionally together was a lot of fun. Overall, I had a great time reading this book and gave it a solid 3.5/5. (rounded to 4 since I had a fun time reading this)

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to review Hate Hex by Gina Lamanna. All opinions are my own.

A supernaturals only part of New York plus pining vampires? Yes please! I love a paranormal story that can be relatable. Limited supernatural housing causing rents to skyrocket? Seems real.

I thought Dom and Trixie had good chemistry. I liked that even though they had an immediate connection they worked to build a relationship instead of us just believing they were perfect because they had a supernatural connection.

This story had a bit of an earlier paranormal romance vibe to me. While many romances coming out recently have a romcom or romantasy vibe this felt a bit more urban fantasy with a twilightesque hero thrown in. I'm not complaining as I love urban fantasy and while I am over my twilight phase it left its mark but if you aren't a fan of that era of books I might skip this one.

If you are looking for a fun paranormal read that is closed door this one is definitely work reading! If this turns into a series I'd read more set in this world.

I enjoyed that there was more to this book than just the witch/vampire romance but also political elections and a troublesome brother. These plot points kept the book moving along at a good pace. There were a couple of aspects that made the story a little awkward to read and understand with off page content. I think some of these points could have been fleshed out on the page. Anyway, lots of fun but Gran is the star of the story!

- Rivals to lovers
- Fated mates
- Magical mischief
- Political intrigue
- He falls first
- Gran is the star!
- Closed door

Big thanks to NetGalley, LaManna books and Gina LaManna for this early release copy. This is my honest review

The banter between Trixie and Dominic is everything. It’s a mix of witty curses and playful hexes, and honestly, their hate-to-love dynamic is great. This book has closed-door spice, but the story was enough for me to finish it in one sitting.
The plot is cute, the humor is on point, and the magical mishaps keep you hooked!

What a fun book to read! When a witch finds out her landlord is a vampire, and is selling the apartment building it starts a battle that neither can finish. But when when something else steps in can it finish them for good!
