This was great! A very fun read full of banter. The characters were likeable and the storyline was good, an easy read
EH. It was okay, but I couldn't connect with Trixie at all. I feel like the sympathy I'm supposed to feel for her is just whiny. I didn't like the decisions she made and it made it a harder read for me.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for a copy of the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Trixie is a witch who is trying her hardest to suppress her magical powers but after a midnight encounter with a handsome vampire Trixie is unable to contain her magic. Trixie decides to put a light hex on the vampire after she finds out that he is responsible for the sale of her beloved apartment and the results are hilarious until the vampires deranged brother returns and Trixie is his target.
This was a quick feel good read for me and I was able to complete it in an afternoon.
Okay so Hate Hex? It was just... meh for me. Like it wasn’t terrible, but not great either. You know when you read something and it just feels hollow? That was this book for me. The characters? Couldn't connect with them if my life depended on it. And Trixie - oh boy. She was one of those characters that just makes you want to reach through the pages and shake some sense into them. Like, girl, please get it together!
Trixie is this witch who's basically as basic as they come. She's driving a taxi in New York's paranormal district (because of course that's a thing), and she's spent forever trying to pretend her magic doesn't exist. Then one night, she has this run-in with this broody vampire in some dark alley, and what does she do? Accidentally shoots a wine cork at his face with her magic. Real smooth, right?
Plot twist - turns out Mr. Tall, Dark, and Vampy is Dominic Kent, this loaded billionaire who - surprise! - owns her building. And because life loves drama, he's trying to kick her out of her rent-controlled apartment (the horror!).
Cue the instant hate-fest.
So Trixie's brilliant solution? Throw a "tiny" hex his way. Dom hits back harder, and they get into this whole magical prank war. But then Dom's brother shows up with some serious revenge vibes, and suddenly our bickering duo has to team up or die trying.
And naturally, because this is a romance novel, they're fighting this whole electric attraction thing while trying not to get killed. Classic enemies-to-lovers stuff.
If you're in the mood for something super light and fluffy - like, cotton candy level of substance - maybe give it a shot. But don't expect anything mind-blowing. It's more of a "I don't want to think too hard" kind of read.
This book was an arc for me, but I never got to it, so I borrowed it on Amazon so I could read and do the review. It was a cute premise, and dom and Trixie were so cute. The vampire... witch relationship was an interesting twist. Cute fast read
This was such a fun book! I have never read a rom-com that involved a witch & a vampire, but I enjoyed this one. They're both competing for a seat in the council (even though neither of them seem that interesting in winning). Some tropes I liked about this one were grumpy/sunshine, soulmates, and prank war!
While it did have a bit of an insta-love feel to it, which I am not a fan of, it did actually have an explanation for the whole thing. If you're in the mood for a lighthearted Halloween read, this one is a fun one to read. 3.5 stars
This was a very cute, pretty lighthearted and fast read, perfect for the autumn season and what I was in the mood for. Full of witches, vampires and other supernatural beings. There was some humor, a very vanilla romance and a light dash of suspense.
Overall, a cute read, but nothing overly special or anything to write home about. The ending was a little rushed and pretty predictable, and I'm still left with some unanswered questions. (What happened to Dom's brother in the end?)
Clean romance with minimal steam. Safe for high schoolers and gifting to moms. Fun, easy seasonal read featuring a fun plant-girl witch and her “evil” vampire landlord who turns out to be a total cinnamon roll.
This was a glitchy romcom read that just makes you feel good. It was a fast paced read, and it was and hilarious read. I enjoyed the main female, the most. She was witty and snarky, and just a phenomenal character that had me laughing at every page. The guy that she ends up with is one that was kind of shocking, but also perfectly fit in once you start reading the book. And I just enjoy the way the author created this modern magical realism in real life, but also have the witchy romcom vibes.
The Hate Hex by Gina LaManna

Spice: PG-13
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.
Look, October felt like the world’s longest month and I struggled hard: to finish reading, to write these reviews, to do anything but get out of bed and go to work. So yes, Halloween is over but we are still full on into fall, so I think the witchy reads can still happen! Don’t overlook them just because spooky season is over.
Insta-love can be a tough sell sometimes, it has to be done in such a way that the reader doesn’t feel like they’ve missed a huge part of the plot in the author's head. But when a writer does it well, creates an immediate chemistry between the two main characters that is palpable on the page, well then they’ve hooked me.
Trixie and Dominic live in a part of New York City that is magical, and not in that way that Meg Ryan describes in You’ve Got Mail. No, it is really a part of the city that is hidden from non-magical people. And in this area live the witches, wizards, vampires, elves and other mythical creators. Trixie is a down-on-her-luck witch who actually won’t use her witchy skills because she fears it will be used by others for harm. Dominic is a hunky vampire who owns the building Trixie lives in and is about to sell, which does not endear him to her. But even though they don’t like each other, there is something so there they just can’t deny it. And also, they need to join forces to save their world, so basically it is meant to be.
As I said, insta love is hard but LaManna does a great job of showing why these two, but especially Dominic, can fall for someone so hard and fast (fate??). I really enjoyed our hero and heroine but also the secondary characters and I really hope that this is the start of a series!
Such a perfect fall read. I loved the banter and paranormal aspects. I will definitely be picking up more from this author in the future.
I thought this was a sweet and cute story between a grumpy ish rich guy and a girl with family issues. The magic plays a little part but doesn’t feel vital to the core of the plot.
A vampire and a witch are thrown together and I’m not really sure why….. oh because the vampire has a crazy brother who wants to hurt him through the people he cares about.
This is a cozy little story about a vampire and a witch who are both looking for direction and purpose in their lives. Loved the characters as they all felt real and fleshed out.
This book is the perfect autumn read by the cozy fire because it’s quick and light!

ok i didn’t think i would like it this much ?? it was funny and kinda cute but not cringey at all
the vibe rivals to lovers / witch and vampire got me hooked from beginning to end (the supsence did it for me) seriously it’s addicting 😂
the pace was quite fast i’m not gonna lie to you but it’s a small book so it’s kinda obvious.
the romance was NOT what i expected but i’m happy with it anyways !
it’s simple, it’s cute, it’s funny, there’s no reason to not read it.
Dom was protective and i loooooove when they are like that !
read it in a day, couldn’t put it done 😂
thank you netgalley for the copy 🤍

I DEVOURED this book (haha see what I did there) 😍 this was a quick rom-com that was exactly what I was in the mood for!!
When a witch who has been suppressing her powers is nominated to a political position within her world, everything seems like it’s falling apart. Until some “harmless” pranks lead her on a journey to truly finding herself.

💕 Rivals to lovers
Hate Hex is a delightful paranormal rom-com that nails the enemies-to-lovers trope with plenty of humour and magical charm. Trixie Gardens, an "average witch" who has spent her life avoiding her powers, is an endearing and relatable protagonist. Her accidental run-in with the grumpy and irresistibly handsome vampire, Dominic Kent, kicks off a series of hilarious magical mishaps that keep the story entertaining from start to finish.
The chemistry between Trixie and Dominic is sizzling, with their witty banter and constant bickering making for some genuinely funny moments. The dynamic between them, starting as sworn enemies and slowly evolving into something much more, is well-paced and engaging. Their romance feels natural, and the way their relationship develops adds both tension and warmth to the story.
While the plot isn't without its share of danger, particularly with Dominic's vengeful brother looming in the background, the light hearted tone keeps things from feeling too intense. The mix of enchantments, curses, and near-death experiences creates a fun and adventurous atmosphere that perfectly complements the romance.
Overall, Hate Hex is an enjoyable read with plenty of humour, heart, and magical chemistry. If you're a fan of paranormal rom-coms, fated mates, and love a good enemies-to-lovers story, this one will definitely put a smile on your face.
Very cute witchy read that’s perfect for spooky season! Glad I saved this to read in October.
This is like discovery of witches meets vampire diaries? It was fun.
The pacing is fast and the characters are likable. No dramatic third act breakup which is always a plus for me! Will there be more books in this series? I hope so!
Cute and fun read for spooky season. I enjoyed it and might buy a copy. It was a fast binge read. I will say world building wise it could’ve been a bit more developed and the characters at times seemed childish but over I loved the dual pov and their love story.
Going into the book I wasn’t expecting much but I was surprised by the story and the love that unfolds in this one. It really drew me in. Just the middle part felt a little slow…
Trixie is a ride share driving witch who suppresses her magical abilities. She lives in a magical neighborhood called The Hollow with her witch roommate and vampire landlord. Trixie is unsure of what to do because her landlord is selling the apartment that has been passed down through her family. This apartment is the only place she can afford and the only place where she has good memories of her mother. When Trixie receives multiple summons from The Circle, the governing body of the magical community, her roommate accepts on her behalf. There is a seat open on The Circles council, when the candidates names are announced Trixie is shocked to hear hers. Trixie wants nothing to do with this election and campaign. Another candidate announced is Dominic, Trixie's landlord, who also doesn't want to participate either. Dominic is a rich vampire who is selling the apartment building where Trixie lives. Before he can sell the building he has to find his evil brother to buy him out of his share. When Dominic and Trixie meet there's a mix of lust, hate and love. Dominic is intrigued by Trixie and the magical power he can sense from her. Unfortunately, Dominic isn't the only one that is intrigued by Trixie.
Hate Hex is told from dual POVs, Domenic and Trixie. I enjoyed reading both of their point of views. It was interesting to see how they viewed their situations and each other. I could understand why Dominic was selling the building and why Trixie was upset about this. I did think it was weird that they met suddenly when they both lived in the same building. There is some instalove in this book but I liked how the author explains it. I typically hate instalove but liked that there's a logical explanation for it in this circumstance. Even with feelings of love they don't act in love right away. My biggest issue with this book was the ending. I didn't like how they get engaged at the end even though they haven't been together for that long. I think it could have ended with them being happy together, the rest could have been implied or inferred.
I really liked this book, it was a quick, fun read. The chapters are short and the story flew by. I loved the characters and all of their quirks. There aren't too many characters so I felt that I was able to get to know them. The story line itself was interesting, it wasn't overpowered by the love story. I would like to read more books set in this fictional world.
I recommend this book if you're looking for a fun, quick paranormal romance.
Sadly, Hate Hex wasn't my cup of tea. As fun as the premise of this novel sounded, I think the execution for it wasn't for me.
I liked that the novel was fast paced, but it was hard to root for the characters when I couldn't really connect with them. I also didn't enjoy the romance as much because it was so insta-lovey and didn't have that enemies to lovers dynamic that I was hoping for.
