I’ve read other books by Gina LaManna that I really enjoyed but this one just fell a little short for me. I just couldn’t get through it and I had to DNF it. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this arc ebook in exchange for an honest review. All my opinions are my own.

An enemies-to-lovers paranormal rom-com!

Trixie Gardens is one average witch, thank you very much.

A down-on-her luck taxi driver in the paranormal section of New York, Trixie has spent a lifetime repressing her magic. Until one night, she meets a grumpy, devilishly handsome vampire in a dark alley, and she accidentally activates her powers by shooting the cork from a cheap cabernet bottle at his face.

It turns out the vampire is none other than Dominic Kent—the stormy, rough-around-the-edges billionaire who owns Trixie’s apartment building. When she discovers Dominic is trying to kick her out of the only place she’s ever called home (and did she mention rent-controlled?), it’s hate at first sight.

After Trixie puts a teeny, tiny hex on her new nemesis, Dom retaliates in a big way. It’s all clever enchantments and witty curses, until Dominic’s brother suddenly returns, hellbent on revenge. When things turn deadly, Dominic and Trixie must bond together to survive.

As Dom and Trixie fight to stay alive, they try to ignore the electricity crackling between them that’s got nothing to do with magic. However, before she knows it, Trixie finds herself wondering why the line between hate and love feels like it’s so thin it might have vanished entirely…

This is a cute and light paranormal romance about a witch and vampire who enter into a hex war against each other. This novel has some humor and character development that makes Trixie and Dominic relatable. I found the dialogue in this novel a little awkward which is what drove the 3 star rating.

This book was good, not great. I enjoyed the story & characters, but I felt that I was reading constantly waiting for something BIG to happen. It eventually did but I did think this book had the potential for more.

Forced proximity
Paranormal romance
Witch x vampire
Haters to lovers

This was a wonderfully fun and sweet paranormal romance and the perfect palate cleanser! I’ve had such a streak of not great books and this was a nice change! I consider this more of hate to lovers than anything else because they were never really enemies. This was fast paced and well written so I flew through this book.

I wish the fated mates concept was explored a bit more and confirmed but I really enjoyed this book so I don’t really mind. I love Trixie and Dominic 🫶🏼 I wish her magic and past could have been discussed earlier in the book. Also I still don’t know why she worked as an uber driver but I love her and relate on a fundamental level to her love of plants and coffee❤️

Fast paced fun romance. Felt a little rushed for my personal tastes. I enjoyed the side characters and the world had a lot of life and charisma. Just wish there was more development of the main characters. The titular Hate Hexing isn't a big part of the book. Trixie was a sassy witch who knew her own mind and had some issues in the past and doesn't want to use magic. Dominic is a Vampire businessman who owns her building but wants to sell it for more than just financial reasons. There is political intrigue, familial revenge, past family traumas, a hilarious gran, awesome supportive best friend, and a sweet romance at the end of the day.

Really witty banter, had me laughing out loud, but the secondary plot was weak - it needed more plotting out. But otherwise very sweet and whimsical, a nice light read for a sunday afternoon

3.5 stars

Struggling taxi driver Trixie is a witch who represses her abilities. Dominic is a billionaire vampire who owns her apartment building who selling and kicking her out.

A chance meeting in an alley way and Trixie finds herself on the precipice of her powers. Throw in a murderous vampire brother and election and Trixie and Dominic find themselves thrown together.

Hate Hex was such a fun and cute paranormal rom com full of two characters with a sparkly chemistry. I cackled at Trixie's tequila sodden speech, and loved how Dominic didn't fight his feelings, even when he was bewildered by what was happening to him. I adored Vix his head of security. If I had any quibbles it would be to weave in more of the election and the Sebastian storyline as it felt rushed at the end, but overall I breezed right thorough this book. It was just the tonic I needed.

Thanks to Gina LaManna and NetGalley for the ARC.

This was honestly such a cute and funny little paranormal romance! It was the perfect book to get me excited for Halloween! I do wish it would have been longer, it was pretty fast paced & almost read as a novella. I would have loved more from the conflict and more of Trixie learning her powers.

I loved Trixie and Dom, but the lead stars were Grandma Betty & Belinda 🤣 Grandma Betty and her happy hexes had me cackling 😂😂😂

I will definitely pick up another book from this author tho, I enjoyed the witty moments & the world she built.

Quick and easy paranormal rom-com! I flew through it and honestly could not put it down.

I love how different the FMC and MMC were (a witch and a vampire), yet they both came together and supported each other in the end.

The side characters were also very fun. Definitely pick this up in the fall for a cozy, witchy ready with some twists and hilarious one-liners.

I was not aware there were other books set in this same world and will definitely be checking them out.

I loved this book! It was super cute and I love when they’re set in the “real world.” Like magic truly exists among us. The characters were easy to connect to and the story line kept you going. Hoping there will be a second book or maybe a little novella to show us where they are now.

There’s romance but not really any spice. I wish we had a couple of scenes 😅

Thank you to NetGallery for the ARC!

Read As An Arc

🧙🏼‍♀️ Witch x Vampire
🧛🏻‍♂️ Paranormal Romance
🧙🏼‍♀️ Rivals to Enemies
🧛🏻‍♂️ Billionaire MMC
🧙🏼‍♀️ Spooky Season
🧛🏻‍♂️ New York
🧙🏼‍♀️ Dual Pov
🧛🏻‍♂️ Forced Proximity
🧙🏼‍♀️ Opposites Attract

Dom is a rich, handsome and protective vampire (and a grumpy one too) , and Trixie a witch who is relatable and quirky. Their banter and hexing one another is so good. Their chemistry together is an electrifying one that just keeps you engaged with a little mystery solving happening too.

What was confusing for me was the political plot that was added in the book. I kind of just missed the importance of it really but I also feel like this doesn’t take away from the overall story of the book. If anything, maybe just a bit more detail and clarification for it, making it even part of the plot would’ve been good too.

The spice lacked in this book, and I’m a reader who likes all the spice. There is little to no spice, a closed door kiss really. Just a little kiss snd that’s where the relationship starts. I just wish there was more because it would’ve been 🔥.

This is a must read, super quick clean romance with no dragging or slow parts in my opinion! Love how the dual POV switches, alternating between Trixie and Dom. It really brought out their thoughts and feelings even though the FMC pov was a bit of a struggle to read since she doesn’t want to embrace magic. For me, I would clearly want to, but we do find out later in the book why.

Overall, this is a cute, spooky and enjoyable read with an engaging storyline filled with twists and turns! Go grab your copy on Sept 1, 2024!!

I really enjoyed this book. The characters were well developed and lovable. The pacing was perfect and left you wanting to read more. I can't wait to read more by this author!

The PERFECT fall witchy read! I could not put this down. I knew since the beginning that it would be a 5 star read for me. The romance was perfect especially with the perceived enemies to lovers. The magic in this story is very unique and easy to understand. Dominic had me giggling and kicking my feet for most of this story. I ended up falling in love with him immediately after he was introduced. The scene where they were getting names for candidates felt similar to Harry Potter and the goblet of fire scene where they are announcing victors. If you loved the Ex Hex, then this is the book for you.

I really enjoyed this book. I recommend for everyone to try it out especially for October. I am excited to purchase a copy for myself :)

OK, what?? This was so fun! Loved the witchy/vampire pairing. And hello, MMC is giving major Stefan Salvatore vibes 🤤

I’m not normally a fan of “insta love” but I really liked the way this one was written. It just made sense. The characters were so easily likable and when things started to go askew there was no miscommunication or third act breakup like your girl detests.

The absolute perfect fast-paced paranormal romance for spooky season! 🍂

I received this arc courtesy of NetGalley! This is the first time I have ever read a book by this author and immediately I was drawn into the story. I absolutely loved it! It was a refreshing take on magical people and the storyline flowed nicely.

This was my first book by this author and I did enjoy the cozy paranormal romance. It did feel a little too insta-lovey to me and the pacing went back and forth from slow to fast. That said, I'm all in on Emmy. I need her story!

Thank you, NetGalley and La Manna Book Publushing for this ARC. I love this author, and I thoroughly enjoyed this book as well. It had all the wonderful things that I enjoy such as fall, witchy, cozy vibes, and a wonderful cast of characters that was so beautifully written. I enjoyed the banter between both characters and seeing their relationship flourished throughout the book. I loved all the magical elements as well and I would highly recommend this book and I will continue to read more books from this author. Definitely a five star read.
