Book 3 in the Alex Drayce series, Worth Killing For, by Max Luther is a gripping thriller that keeps you on the edge of you seats from start to finish. I received a copy from Canelo via Netgalley.

The novel follows the complex protagonist, Alex Drayce, whose moral compass is different from what the police can do, as he navigates a world filled with deception, betrayal, and deadly choices. The writing is immersive, painting vivid scenes that draw readers into the dark underbelly of the brilliant plot.

The character development of Alex is particularly noteworthy; his motivations are compelling and relatable. The pacing is peefect, with twists and turns that constantly challenge the expectations. Overall, book 3 is a well-crafted thriller that balances suspense with emotional depth, making it a must-read.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this eARC.

Max Luther’s “Worth Killing For” is the third installment in the Alex Drayce series, and it delivers a pulse-pounding, action-packed thriller that will leave readers breathless. This novel follows private bodyguard Alex Drayce as he embarks on a relentless quest for vengeance, driven by the reopening of his wife Lily’s murder investigation.

The story kicks off with a promising lead: forensic evidence linking Lily’s death to the killer of another police officer. However, when the DNA record comes up blank, Drayce takes matters into his own hands. What unfolds is a high-octane chase across the city, where Drayce operates outside the law, unearthing clues and confronting a conspiracy that ties an international crime syndicate to the Metropolitan Police.

Luther’s writing is sharp and fast-paced, perfectly capturing the urgency and intensity of Drayce’s mission. The action scenes are vividly described, making readers feel as if they are right in the middle of the chaos. Drayce is a compelling protagonist—driven, resourceful, and unyielding in his pursuit of justice. His personal stakes add a layer of emotional depth to the narrative, making his journey all the more gripping.

Luther masterfully weaves together multiple threads, creating a complex web of intrigue and danger. The twists and turns keep readers guessing, and the revelations are both shocking and satisfying. The novel also delves into themes of loyalty, corruption, and the lengths one will go to for those they love.

“Worth Killing For” is a thrilling addition to the Alex Drayce series. Max Luther has crafted a story that is both exhilarating and emotionally resonant, with a protagonist who is as relentless as he is relatable. This book is a must-read for fans of action-packed thrillers and anyone looking for a gripping, edge-of-your-seat experience.

Worth Killing For by Max Luther
Alex Drayce #3

Riveting Read ~ Vigilante Vengeance with Deadly Purpose ~ Couldn’t put it down!

What I liked:
* Alex Drayce: widow, loved his wife, seeks justice for wife’s murder, ex-police officer, private bodyguard, big man with mad skills, lethal, intense, strategic thinker, survivor, someone I would trust with my life, eager to find out what happens next
* The prologue that set the stage
* The plot, pacing, setting, and writing
* That I understood Alex’s reasoning, felt a part of the story, and cared about the outcome
* Drayce’s ethics – his own – but quite efficient and effective
* The flashbacks that gave insight into the relationship between Alex and his wife, Lily
* Meeting Lily’s parents
* The masterful plan Drayce put together and the ruthless execution of it
* The action scenes and how they played out
* Being able to hate the bad guys and be glad they met the fat they did
* That there is the potential for Alex to move on at the end of this book and looking forward to finding out what will happen next
* Knowing that there is another book to look forward to

What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Thinking about how evil, greedy, and ruthless some of the characters were
* Having to wait for the next book

Did I like this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Definitely

Thank you to NetGalley and Canelo for the ARC – This is my honest review.

What do you do when your wife is murdered and she was your everything? Of course you go rogue and hunt them down or at least that’s what Alex Drayce is going to. This gave Max Payne vibes big time and I loved that because we got a character who really did not care about anything else but finding his wife’s killer.

I like the storyline but the writing style is not for me. The cover of the book and the title is what got my attention.

Wow what a journey for Alex in this book. Full of action and fairly graphic violence, Alex is back in London and looking into the murder of his wife. As the book starts, another policeman is killed on his doorstep and there is a DNA link to the person who killed Lily . May be in places a little too sensational, by that I mean the fight sequences, but never boring, this book is the written equivilent of a James Bond or Mission impossible film. I, personally liked it a lot and sped through the book which is mostly written in short chapters. Yes, there is also a lot of emotion in the book, this is personal for Alex and I found myself questioning whether or not the outcome for Alex was beleievable ..... but I was rooting for him.
Thanks to Net Galley for a great read, I hope to read more of Alex's adventures before too long

Thanks to Net Galley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Third book in the series but reads great as a standalone. I enjoyed Alex s the MMC. It's an exciting thriller with constant action and plenty of twists. Alex is an ex cop turned body guard who's life is torn apart when he loses his wife Lily and is determined to capture those responsible for her death. He teams up with an ex colleague Lucy, who just so happens to be in the police force still. I enjoyed the book and will be going back to catch the first two in the series now.

I enjoyed the first two books of this action thriller series, so it's easy to understand why I ended up adding the third book to my shelves. Private bodyguard Alex Drayce without doubt makes for a kickass main character worthy of any Hollywood action blockbuster, and this series a perfect fit if you like your thrillers on the high octane and exhilarating side. That said, Worth Killing For did ended up being quite different than what I've come to expect after the first two books, and I confess that I somehow wasn't quite as entertained by this sequel as I thought I would be.

Why would I say this particular sequel is so different? Well, instead of being on another private bodyguard job, Worth Killing For is 100% personal and it's all about Alex Drayce going after whoever murdered his wife. Not a bad plot of course, but somehow I didn't find it quite as engaging as the first two books... I think this also had to do with the fact that the pace was slower than expected in especially the first half, and the plot just wasn't as dynamic as the previous books. I get why there has to be more background with the plot being an investigation instead of a bodyguard job, but still...

I also wasn't sure what to make of the whole organized crime angle. This part of the plot felt considerably cliche, and the part that is told from the POVs of the related characters just didn't work for me personally. I wasn't as interested in whatever the organized crime members were up to, and I actually found everything was happening quite repetitive. The same goes for the fighting scenes once the plot speeds up; I actually caught myself skimreading more than once, and I don't think I missed anything important. Things can also be said about the credibility of the plot, as I don't think it's credible that the main character is able to do all he did without leaving evidence behind or get his revenge without facing the consequences (the cameras in London alone should have spotted him more than once).

All in all Worth Killing For didn't quite hit at home as the first two books, and I suspect it's the different vibe and personal vendetta that didn't work for me personally. If you like action-packed, violent and high octane thrillers with an organized crime angle as well as a revenge plot, Worth Killing For might just work better for you.

Well, phew buckle up fellow readers as that was one heck of a ride, Max Luther you really know how to tell a story and keep your audience completely and totally riveted. I would give this more than five stars if I could. I have read all his books and they do not disappoint, not once.

Alex Dracye is a private bodyguard whose wife was murdered and Alex, a former policeman, is desperate for information to find his wife’s killer and he will do pretty much anything to get it. He is a huge man, strong, clever and above all determined. Not only does he have power at his fingertips, but he is also trained in many types of martial arts which means he is totally capable of murder even if he has no weapon. So, if the bad guys come and they will, he is ready and more pity them. Alex purposely seeks them out and brings them to him, a game he enjoys as he knows he is going to win.

His wife Lily was the love of his life, and he is struggling without her, he desperately wants revenge on the people who killed her and shattered his life. He promised Lily on her death bed that he would find those responsible and he will not let her down.

Alex calls in his good friend Lucy who is still an active officer in the force and at times he does put her in compromising positions as he needs information and assistance, there resources he no power to obtain, such as checking someone’s DNA. He and Lucy have worked closely together over the years, but Lucy wants something in return and Alex is happy to help her out. Anyone else he feels that may have any information he needs he interrogates, no matter who they are.

If you like a fast-moving paced book full of excitement, action and oh my gosh moments this book is for you. Once you pick it up you will be hooked. Now the long wait until the author writes another.

Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for an advanced copy, all opinions are my own.
