The Immortal Crown is the 2nd installment in Richelle Mead's "The Age of X" series, with Gameboard of the Gods being book #1. There is way too much going on in this book for me to try to summarize it, so I'll just go straight to the review: I enjoyed this book as much as I did Gameboard. Yes, it's a departure for Richelle Mead since it's adult fiction and not young adult fiction, but it was just as good. There really was a lot going on, though, which got a bit confusing at times, trying to keep all the different people and all their different stories straight, but overall, it was a very good story. It goes without saying that it was well written, as all of Ms. Mead's books are, with great character development, but I think some streamlining would have helped with the pacing. All in all, though, I enjoyed this book very much.
Highly recommend - 4 out of 5 stars.
*** I would like to thank PENGUIN GROUP Dutton and Richelle Mead for the opportunity to read and review this book.
I read the first book in this series, and was not interested in continuing on with this second book. I was very disappointed in the first book, not just with the storyline but how Mead chose to tell it.
This is one time I have never been able to finish a book by Richelle Mead. It's killing me to say that because of my love for the Vampire Academy series. This one just didn't appeal to me. I couldn't connect, and I have tried over and over. Still....I refuse to DNF this one. Hoping that one day I can finish this book!
I absolutely love Rochelle Mead and I've read pretty much all of her books, up until this one... I'm going to be honest and say this was a dnf for me. I tried to finish it several times but it just didn't capture me like her books usually do. It's sad because Rochelle used to be my favorite author but her latest work are just disappointing...
