I found "My Sister's Boyfriend" to be an engaging read, with its fast pace and numerous twists that compelled me to keep turning the pages. It was truly an enjoyable book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one! I was mentally enthralled from the beginning and found myself literally gripping the book until the middle of the night to find out what was going on. Twisty, turny, thriller goodness. We have identical twins, estranged sisters, lies, deceit, EX-PRISONERS?! I love books where you trust literally no one and this fit the bill for me! The two key twists that hit had me actually slack-jawed and shocked - coming from someone who is a thriller junkie, it takes a lot to get me to that point where I don't see it coming!
Brooke and Lizzie are estranged sisters who, despite their past, are desperately trying to move forward as a family unit for the betterment of Brooke's daughter, Hope. Lizzie works as an art therapist at a correctional facility with ex-prisoners, which is where she meets Noel when she is subbing for another art therapist's class. Despite Noel being revered as an upstanding ex-prisoner, Lizzie feels uncomfortable around him and is thankful she won't have to ever see him again - until she connects the dots that Brooke is dating him. As Lizzie ends up forced to interact with Noel more regularly once he receives a promotion at the correctional facility, she begins to realize there is more transpiring underneath the surface.
This one is told in multiple POVs between Brooke, Lizzie, and Noel's perspectives. I am spoiler-free over here at Nellie's Reads so I am not sharing a single additional thing!
Trust me and if you love thrillers, pick this one up. You are not going to regret it! Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my advanced reader copy. This one releases on 9/9!

My Sister’s Boyfriend is a gripping and twisty read that had me hooked from the start. Nicola Marsh does a fantastic job of building suspense while exploring complex family relationships and hidden secrets. I couldn’t put it down!
Thank you, NetGalley, for the ARC—it was a thrilling experience!”
Family dramas just do it for me and this one hit the spot. A book you will not want to put down. I realised early on that it was the second book in a series and, although I had read the first - My Sister's Husband, I had to read again the beginning and end before it all came together for me. So many twists, the main one I had anticipated from early on but still so many to keep me going. Plenty of flashbacks too so it could be read as a standalone book.
Thanks to netgalley and the publishers for an ARC in exchange for my honest review
My Sister’s Boyfriend is the second book in a series, something I didn’t realize until I was halfway through the novel. The author frequently referenced characters whose backstories were unclear at first, leaving me slightly confused. However, once I realized these were characters from the previous book, the story started to make more sense, and I found the writing more cohesive.
One of the standout elements in this book was the strong sense of family. Lizzie, the main character, is the ultimate “mama bear,” protective of her family, even when her sister Brooke tries to distance herself. The complicated family dynamic added an interesting layer to the story. There were moments where relationships felt like something out of a Dr. Phil episode, with characters assuming one person was their aunt or cousin, only to find out they were actually their mother or sister. It added a touch of chaos that made the family’s story compelling.
The suspense really kicks in when the nanny enters the picture. Right from the start, I had my suspicions about her, and as I uncovered more details about the boyfriend’s past, I had a strong feeling about where the plot twist was headed. Even so, it kept me turning the pages.
Overall, My Sister’s Boyfriend is a fast-paced thriller, perfect for anyone looking for a quick, suspense-filled read. The story held my attention and maintained a high level of tension throughout.
Many thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the eARC. My Sister’s Boyfriend is out now!
My Sister's Boyfriend by Nicola Marsh was another brilliant psychological thriller in the Secrets of Martino Bay Series, This is the 2nd book and I loved it, especially as it had great twists and turns throughout that will have you hooked from the beginning till the very end.
I highly recommend this series, Just Brilliant.
A fast paced psychological thrilling read. The story is told from three points of view, Lizzie, Brooke and Noel. A great read.
I read this not knowing it was book 2 in a series.
As a psychological thriller it does what you’d expect, excellent writing, good storyline (if a little predictable in parts), enough twists that it keeps you interested but not confused or overwhelmed.
I would maybe have gotten a bit more from it if I’d read book 1 first, but it was still an enjoyable book I’d happily recommend.
If you enjoy family drama mixed in with some intense heart stopping thriller you will definitely enjoy this one! Nicola Marsh just has a way of bringing you into the story immediately and keeping you hooked until the very last page!
Psychological thrillers are something that I can read at any point of time and it will hardly bore me out. We have twin sisters here where one has a boyfriend but other sister is not too sure about him. She feels like he is hiding something which leads us to all the past, secrets and drama.
This book kept me on my toes and the intense situations lead me guess what the hell is happening. Well after reading I came to know about the other book we have in this series which can be read as standalone but it all makes sense.
Definitely going to read more from this author in the future.
4.5 stars for me
Very enjoyable read. Full of twists and turns which I love in a thriller. It's totally unputdownable! And had me hooked from the very first chapter!
Little did I know that this is actually book number 2 in the Martino Bay series. As such, I felt I was missing something?
Lizzie and Brooke 'fighting' over a boy was ok bit too predictable for me.
Good writing though, and entertaining.
Thanks to Net Galley and Bookouture for the chance to read and review.
This was a page turner. It was intense, fast pace and everything I love in psych thrillers. Nicola Marsh gives enough details to keep you guessing and adding plot twists just when you think you have it figured out. Such a great read just know it is a multiple POV kind of book.
I really enjoyed My Sister's Boyfriend, the latest psych thriller from Nicola Marsh. It was well-written and kept me turning pages to the very end. Even though I guessed one of the more major twists, I wasn't sure if I was right until the truth was revealed.
Wow! This book was intense! I absolutely loved it! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. The plot was complex with there being a lot of connections between the characters. The twists and turns had me SO captivated. I couldn't get through this bool fast enough. I was so curious to get to the ending, which did not disappoint. Family lies, betrayal and secrets are the theme in this nail biting, suspenseful book. Very intriguing storyline and even more enthralling writing.
Once I head this was a sequel, I went and read the first book, My Sister's Husband. It is not necessary, as this can be read as a standalone, but that book is just as good. I will definitely be reading more from this author.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
A tale as old as time - good twin vs evil twin.
A complicated family - Lizzie and Brooke (sisters) have been through so much. Lizzie meeting someone she finds nice and attractive has been a long time coming. Dating is a new and exciting adventure!
Brooke has her doubts - which only adds more conflict between her and Lizzie. Brooke has seen the new boyfriend in a while other light. And it's not looking good.
This book is topsy turvy and keeps you on your toes! It's a fantastic story!
I had a really hard time getting into this one- the characters and the dynamics between them were confusing. I didn’t realize it was the 2nd in a series until I read other reviews so maybe that is why it felt confusing to me. The story centers on Brooke, who has met a new man named Noel that she really likes, but her sister Lizzie has also come into contact with Noel and has a different impression. Brooke and Lizzie are trying to rebuild their relationship after a previous incident that had pulled them apart.
I felt like Brooke was a bit of a whiny character and it didn’t feel like her personality fit the characterization about how effortlessly popular she had always been. There were some tense moments in the book but I figured out the big twist pretty early on. I do think that the 2nd half of the book was more engaging than the first half, but overall I just wasn’t all that invested in the story.
Overall, this one wasn’t for me but I have really enjoyed other books by this author. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Loved, loved, loved this wonderful story. an absolutely absorbing read. Completely transported me. Absolutely intriguing and hooky. Loved it.
The twist on this book!!!!! OMG!!! I cannot say enough. Twists and turns and very thrilling! Thank you netgalley.
I got a little lost with the back and forth in time and POV but overall a really good book. Will have to see what else this author has written.
