I enjoyed this book and the second book (which I actually read first). I really liked the author's writing style.

The only quibble I have is the killer basically outs themself. I don't think anyone, Kate or the police, had any clue who had done the murders. People have killed for less, but I thought the motive was a little light.

The author has a very successful series with this winning debut. As a veterinarian the author has created a series based on a wonderful woman vet who stumbles upon a murder. She soon investigates finding her suspicion is warranted as suspects line up. I loved the authentication here of knowledge of dogs and behavior of those in the dog business. This is a winning combination of veterinarian expertise and love of dogs. A great sleuth adds to the fun . Great fun read!
