A Big No for me.
The author writes an opinion piece and his opinion is people in the center to right are in the wrong.
The writing is full of selected information that is painted heavily with the author's opinion.
To be fair, it's difficult to find a book these days that is non-biased.
The book covers the contemporary political landscape of the United States, and discusses the many things that are wrong or twisted about it.
Its premise is an interesting question. What has happened to make current political life such that everything is 'identity politics,' since political identification seems so bound up with every other sort of identification. The earlier chapters, particularly the one on social media, start to explore the topic. The writing itself is sound, and the book has a good sense of pacing.
The book as a whole though is snarky comments about politics, specifically directed towards Republicans. It is funny, but the wit loses something in repetition. Take a shot each time MTG gets a new nickname.
It is hard to see who the audience is for this, outside of it being an audition for a pundit slot. It is too abusive to win hearts and minds of the opposition, and the descriptive view of the state of play is not giving the choir any new hymns. I suppose there is value in someone from outside of the U.S. concurring with how messed up this all is.
My thanks to the author, Jim Joquico, for writing the book, and to Victory for making the ARC available to me.
