As a music education professional myself, I've been expanding my word into the field of music and wellness for the last couple of years. So I've been excited to see more and more literature written for the general public come out on the topic - after all, most of us have music on most of the day, and it's an integral part of many of our lives. Levitin's book provides a good overview of the current field, with references to interesting studies and musical theory and references for those who'd like to take a deeper dive. Learn about musical interventions for Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and various mental health conditions, as well as general information on the effect music has on our brains.

There are some very technical parts, but I feel that this is one of those books where you take and absorb what you need and can approach at the level you're at - those parts will work for some and not for others, and that's ok.

Thank you to Penguin Random House and NetGalley for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
