I really enjoyed this book. Anna was kind, loyal and determined. James was a bit cranky at first but then became Anna’s defender and protector. The characters were well written. The storyline was well paced and engaging. Overall a great book.
“It was merely a song, and he hoped the words wouldn’t frighten her away. But he realized the words he’d sung were essentially true; he would do whatever he could to win her favor . . . and her love.”
A missing brother, war torn France, an unforgettable journey, & a sweet heartwarming romance make Lady Anna’s Favor unputdownable. I’ve loved following the Jennings Family as each one’s found romance & love. This is James’ story & it didn’t disappoint.
Lady Anna Clifton is devastated when her father dies shortly after her brother & she receives disturbing news that her other brother is MIA in France. Determined to thwart a conniving cousin who wants to claim the inheritance, she accepts help from the Duke of Aylesham who offers his yacht to take her to France to search for her brother.
James is an attorney & diplomatic associate of the Duke of Aylesham. He meets Lady Anna on the same sea voyage. Unfortunately, they start off on the wrong foot, but as the journey progresses, James gains new respect for the lady & her trusty servants. Anna doesn’t speak French & James makes a fateful decision to accompany her on her mission to locate her brother.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. The author does such a fantastic job recreating France during this time period. The obstacles & challenges Anna & James face along the way only strengthen their bond. I loved seeing their gentle romance unfold. There’s a lot of close proximity which definitely helps bring them together. I also enjoyed side characters Sparks & Mary. They added a charming touch to the story.
Highly recommend this heartfelt romance! Though it’s part of a series it’s easily read as a standalone. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the author & publisher. All opinions are my own & voluntarily provided.
I loved this book! The main characters are fantastic and made me want to keep reading long after I should have been in bed. Karen Tuft is a favorite author and will continue to be. I bought a hard copy of this one!
Lady Anna’s favor is a sweet clean romance written by Karen Tuft. I really enjoyed the premise of the book and fund it interesting to read about the conditions in France after the Napoleonic war. I also enjoyed the main characters Anna and James. Anna is a strong determined young woman who will do whatever’s it takes to find her brother, the last remaining member of her family. James is a caring, unselfish man who falls in love quickly and sacrifices his own plans to help the women he loves.
Overall I enjoyed this book. It was a sweet romance with good characters.
There is so much to love about this latest story by Karen Tuft! I was hooked from the first page and couldn't put it down!
I received an ARC from Netgalley and all opinions are my own.
Lady Anna's Favor by Karen Tuft’s novel swept me away with Anna’s determination to travel to France for to find her brother. James wonderful and was everything I like to see in historical romance. Honorable, trustworthy and he showed beautiful grand gestures. Anna was brave, honest and not afraid to speak her mind. Love to see that in a book. The romance had many special moments and lovely kisses. I recommend this if you like a good clean romance. Thank you Shadow Mountain via NetGalley.
I have loved all of this author’s other books but for some reason this one was not as easy for me to get into. It’s still a great regency romance with good plot and characters you care about, it just took a little longer to hook me, :)
I have enjoyed each book in this series that follows the Jennings family, and while you can read this as a stand alone, I would recommend reading the series in order.
The romance between James and Anna is sweet and well paced, this is slow burn done right. I love all of the historical details, they really help immerse the reader in the setting.
I would recommend this book (and the entire series) to anyone who enjoys clean historical romance.
*Thank you to NetGalley and Shadow Mountain Publishing for the arc, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
I love this series. The Jennings family is wonderful and I was so happy to read James' story. If you haven't read this series yet, I'd suggest at least reading The Duke Meets His Match, as part of that story is at the beginning of this one. However, you can still enjoy this book without reading the other ones, but they are wonderful, so I suggest taking the time to read them.
Lady Anna is quite the woman. I loved her big heart and bravery. I can't imagine how daunting this must have been for her. Yes, she was naive, but she was also determined. I loved James. It was so fun getting to know him better and seeing his and Anna's relationship grow. I loved the history and research that went into this book. I felt like I was in post-war France and appreciated the experience.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through Netgalley. This is my honest review.
This was a sweet historical read. Lady Anna’s Favor is written by Karen Tuft and it follows another Jennings brother, James. I loved the cover and I was excited to read this book.
Anna was an interesting character, I felt for her as she tried to find her brother. She did have to grow on me though, she felt a bit impulsive and immature at times. However she grew throughout the book and learned to trust James while standing up for herself. James was stubborn and kind of standoffish, but he genuinely cared for those under his care. He had to learn to see Anna in a different light as they traveled together.
The romance was sweet, and it didn’t feel too fast. Anna and James spent a lot of time together as they traveled, so their romance seemed to fit the story. The characters were interesting and I am excited to read more books in this series.
I would recommend Lady Anna’s Favor to those who enjoy historical romances. Lady Anna’s Favor is a clean historical romance with hints of adventure.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the publisher through Netgalley. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, a positive review was not required.
This was a very gentle and sweet read. I appreciated that aspect. I read this fine as a stand alone. However, I think one could get fuller enjoyment if read as part of the series. I haven't read the series myself and so this is only my feeling. This title wasn't as strong of a read for me and so took me a bit longer to read. I liked the characters and how each added to the story. I thought the dialogue wasn't as strong for me. I thought the scene and bit of scandal that involved the h at a ball in France escalted then deescaleted rather quickly in a way that didn't feel natural to me. It felt a bit rushed. As well as H and h change in feelings turning towards each other. I did like the premise and the plot. Going through the French countryside and hearing how people felt about Napolean was good. Overall, I think it was an okay read for me but I could see another enjoying this more just fine.
I didn’t realize when I started this book that it was part of a series. I think it worked fine as a standalone, though there were definitely some characters who were married that made me wonder if they had earlier stories in the series.
I liked how Anna was searching for her brother, and I thought the political and travel aspects of this story were well written! Anna and James are sweet together, and I liked certain side characters and how they supported Anna in her quest. This book is gentle and sweet, and I love the beautiful cover!
I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Lady Anna‘s Favor is a clean, historical romance. It can be read as a standalone, but there are a few crossover characters and you may want to read the other books in the series first. Anna is the daughter of a Duke. Her parents were in a Carriage accident a few years prior, her mother passed away, and her father was injured and never recovered fully. Recently, her elder brother John, passed away from pneumonia. This took an even bigger toll on her father. When she returns home one evening, she finds her father passed away with a letter in his hand. Younger brother Avery was wounded and missing in France. This news was obviously more than her father‘s heart could handle. Anna is determined to travel to France to find him. This starts an incredible journey of intrigue and adventure. James Jennings happens to be on the ship crossing the English Channel when he meets Anna and her two servants. He can’t help but feel bad for this beautiful lady and offers his help. He has traveled through France many times and knows the language well. There’s many twist and turns to the story with a sweet happily ever after. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
A tepid romance at-best, with no zing, no heat, no drive. It’s entirely possible in a proper romance to still create tension, but here I felt that it was a bit lacking. The plot was a fun concept, but really became boring and i found myself disappointed with the HEA, if only in want of something to excite me. Also, this is not a standalone, as advertised. I suppose I didn’t need to fully need to know exactly who and what was happening with side characters, but it sure would have been nice to decide that going in. 2.5 ⭐️
Thank you NetGalley and Shadow Mountain for this arc, in exchange for my unbiased review.
Lady Anna‘s Favor is a nice story about loyalty, determination, helping others and finding true love.
I liked the banter between the main characters and I especially liked the dual point of view. Even side characters like Mary and Sparks were so nicely written, that I couldn‘t wait to read how their relationship develops.
I do like the fact that this is a proper romance story but a little scandal would‘ve been appreciated.
Best consumed while sipping a hot cuppa and some biscuits, or shall I say French pastries?
A new proper (cleans) romance from Karen Tuft. These are stand alone novels but there is some crossover in characters. I’ve only read a couple of the others and I think this is the eighth novel, so I’m not well versed on the connections. In this story it makes less of an issue as most of the plot takes place in France. Lady Anna Clifton has lost her brother, the heir, to her father’s earldom and then her father. She has a second brother who has been listed as missing in action from the fighting against Napoleon. Driven by the fact that a less desirable cousin will inherit her family home and title she takes off with her maid to France to search for her brother.
Mr. James Jennings has training as a lawyer and is on diplomatic service heading to France. He isn’t looking for a wife but he is drawn to Anna. He can’t leave her to make her way in France alone without the language skills needed to search for her brother. There are a lot of carriage rides forcing proximity, giving them time to learn about one another. The author tends to use more formal language, which is probably correct, but it took a bit to get used to.
I enjoyed small details like the Arc du Triomphe was being built but not completed in 1813 when this story takes place. Or learning about a battle where over 9,000 lost their lives was for nothing as news that Napoleon had already surrendered had not arrived. (3.5 Stars)
Another great read from Karen Tuft! If you like romances with a little bit of mystery and adventure then grab this book for a quick read. Having read the books previously in this series I would recommend reading them in order before picking this one up. It can be a stand alone, but the connections between the books can get a bit confusing if you don’t have that prior knowledge.
Overall a great read. Thank you to NetGalley and Shadow Mountain for a digital ARC in exchange for my honest review.
What a dilemma he had brought upon himself! He had been determined to avoid relationships and romance ... and now all he wished to do was help Lady Anna Clifton and, hopefully, earn her favor.
Being attracted to Mr. Jennings was untimely and wholly inconvenient, especially when what she wanted desperately to do was dislike him.
My Thoughts:
If you’re into historical romance with a bit of mystery, Lady Anna's favor is a must-read! Set in 1814 London, Lady Anna Clifton has suffered a hard blow... as her brother and father pass away leaving her alone at home. Worst of all the one person the estate can go to, Avery, her brother is missing and assumed dead. Anna will stop at nothing to find her missing brother Avery because if she doesn't, their estate goes to a nasty cousin, and she’ll lose everything. Her only option? Teaming up with the frustratingly handsome Mr. Jennings. James Jennings has his sights set on other tasks, that is until he runs into Anna and decides he will accompany her on her search for her brother. Helping Anna was not in his plans, but neither was falling in love with her.... Could they have a future? Will Anna find her brother before her cousin takes over the estate?!
All in all it was a great read for me. The romance is slow-burn at its best—James falls for Anna first, and hard, and the chemistry between them grows as the story progresses. The romance does take the backseat to the travels to find her brother. But when the romance does become the focal point in the story... those kisses do NOT disappoint. For me, this was more of a 3.5 star read. That I would round up to a 4 star.
Special thanks to Netgalley for my digital copy of it and Shadow Mountain publishing & Karen for the physical copy of this book to enjoy!
I can't wait to explore more works by this amazing author! This book took an unexpected turn, and I’m glad it did. The main character, a young lady, faced numerous challenges, even becoming embroiled in a political scandal. Her journey went from bad to worse, but it was captivating throughout. Don't worry, it has a satisfying ending. The story was both historically informative and enjoyable, with an element of romance woven in.
This was my first book by this author, and I was able to fully enjoy it. There is a helpful family chart at the beginning for reference, which provides more information if you'd like to read all the books in the series. However, this one can stand alone.
Thank you Shadow Mountain Publishing, Proper Romance, Karen Tuft, & @NetGalley. My opinions are given freely.
This is a sweet and clean romance with a bit of intrigue. Lady Anna and James come together by chance but end up traveling many miles together under less-than-ideal circumstances. No big surprise when they end up in love. I also thought there was something of a romance between Sparks and Mary but in the end I wasn't sure. They are secondary characters but since they are traveling with Lady Anna we see a lot of them and since Mary suffers from an upset stomach when traveling the reader spends a lot of time aware of them. Anna's determinization to find her brother is admirable but I don't think they would have succeeded without James.
I'm not very good with names and titles don't really stick in my head well so when the prince was called by 2 different names/titles I got confused. Initially I thought they were two different people and then it became apparent that they had to be one and the same so I had to go back to his first introduction into the story to figure out why a prince wasn't always called Prince. After that I was okay.
But I also had a few terms or phrases that pulled me out of the story. Was drinking chocolate in the regency era called hot cocoa? I don't know but whether it was or not it pulled me out of the story to think about it.
I liked the way the story ended. It was satisfying.
