I absolutely adored this story. The concept was so fresh and naturally entertaining. The humor was extra generous. Enemies to lovers and in the end, the characters end up warming our hearts. It was also summed up very nicely. The Last sentence was my favorite moment. But there was a lot to enjoy about the story I would absolutely buy a physical copy and recommend to a friend!

While I love Sophie Cousen’s books and this one was still great it wasn’t as amazing to me as her previous ones. The Good Part will just always hold a special place in my heart.

3.5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Anna is a single mom, in her late 30s, whose job is on the line. She’s a journalist whose magazine is going under and she must start writing about dating to prove how valuable she is. Only problem is that since her divorce she has no interest in a love life. The column she decides to write is that her kids will chose her dates and her rival at work will write an opposing column about online dating.

Like Cousen’s other books we get a lot of women’s fiction, and women learning about themselves. Anna’s growth in this book is amazing to read. Coming into herself after divorce was awesome. Her kids were also funny and had issues of their own she had to deal with.

I think what turned me off while reading was the romance. The dates were great, and while Will was amazing as is. I just didn’t see them working out long term. But maybe that was the point. They both grew for the other person and had to adjust their lives. So maybe it’s more realistic than I thought. But it just didn’t resonate with me.

Overall, I would still highly recommend the book and would love to hear others thoughts!

This was a cute story with interesting main characters. I liked the reference to the teen daughter who was having a hard time in school, going into her room and playing "Believer" by Imagine Dragons- very cool! I would have liked to have heard from Will's perspective.

I thoroughly enjoyed Is She Really Going Out with Him? by Sophie Cousens. Anna Appleby, recently divorced and striving to be the best mom she can for her children, finds herself struggling with a lost sense of identity. As a writer trying to make her column appealing to a new company, she agrees to explore old-school, offline dating for her articles. Eventually, she pairs up with a workplace rival to create a joint column. As their friendship grows and Anna navigates various dates, the reader can’t help but root for her to find her perfect match. This book had me laughing, tearing up, and fully invested—a fantastic read!

An enemies to lovers workplace romance? No need to tell me more, because I’m in!

Anna, a late-thirties divorcee with two kids and a cat, couldn’t be further from thinking about dating. When an opportunity to up her game at work to further her career lands in her single lady lap, she goes for it. Even though it means competing against Will, an early thirties ladies man who she cannot stand.

This slow burn, low spice, closed door romance had me laughing, smiling and wanting more from this couple! While they started as enemies, I appreciated how their softer sides were portrayed throughout the story!

Read this one if you like enemies to lovers, slow burn, workplace romance, closed door, low spice, and only one bed.

Thank you to Net Galley, the author Sophie Cousens, and Putnam books for providing an arc in exchange for my honest review!

Second chance at love mixed with personal growth and the magic of Sophie Cousens. What else could you want from a book?!

Anna has given up on love. Her ex is living with his new girlfriend. She’s feeling washed up and ready to just grind through life. But when her arch nemesis starts a rival column at work and she’s forced to date again, she can feel her life changing. Is it for the best? Or should she retreat into her shell forever?

I adored this book. The characters are lovable, it’s a quick read and the writing is amazing. I appreciated the inclusion of multiple side plots and they all got resolved before the end of the book. Definitely a good read for those who enjoyed this author’s books, and those that enjoy rom coms with older FMCs. A great read for the beach, by the fire in the snow, or anywhere in between!

If you’re looking for a FMC to root for, Sophie Cousens has written her!

Anna Appleby is just finding her footing after her divorce and she’s contempt living the rest of her live alone with her kids and cat, but when her column is being threatened in being passed over to her work rival Will she unwillingly offers up the idea of going on dates that her kids have picked for her, what follows is self-discovery, courage to stand up for herself and possibly love?

I loved this story, the writing was perfect, the characters worked so well together, every character was developed so well from the kids to Anna’s sister, Will and even the ex-husband!

Anna was a well-developed main character, everything she did felt appropriate and true to her character, I was rooting for her in both her work and her love life. The romance between her and Will was so well done from the first moment we're introduced to him I am right there with Anna in agreeing with her that Will is full of himself (mostly because we know as much information about him as Ana). But when she starts getting to know him and in turn, we get to know him, I was right there with Anna falling in love with him and let me tell you there’s so much more to Will than meets the eye, and when we find out about the reason almost everything he owns is embroidered. Oh, my heart!

I can’t recommend this enough!

Solid 5 stars

Sophie Cousens' books always have the right amount of humor along with emotional moments and wonderful relationships - and her latest release has all of this and more with a very interesting premise too!⁣

Recent divorcee and single mom Anna Appleby is quite content with her life and is not interested in another relationship or dating someone - though her ex might have moved on quite quickly. But when there are talks of restructuring at the magazine that she works for, Anna pitches a new column idea to save her job - she'll write about a series of offline dates and all of them will be picked by her kids😂 Anna finds herself going on all kinds of dates with men picked by her kids - from the dad of a playmate to a younger waiter - while having a friendly competition with a coworker who provides a different perspective by writing above online dating. She's afraid that he might steal her column but is that the only thing that he wants to steal?😆⁣

Anna was such an easy character to root for! She tries her best to manage everything while staying strong but she also needs to learn to put herself first - which she does slowly! All of her dates were so entertaining - even the weird ones. There were so many funny moments and lots of banter that I enjoyed reading 😂 Her romance with Will was very sweet too as I loved their relationship development along with their vulnerable moments. But I was also frustrated at times by Anna's misunderstandings and some of her actions at the end - though it ended well. The focus is more on Anna's relationship with herself and others - which I really enjoyed seeing! And I loved her kids😆 They were very realistic but not annoying!⁣
Overall this was a great read with memorable characters and a good mix of humor, heart and romance!

Is she really going out with him? By Sophie Cousens follows a columnist Anna Appleby who just recently divorced. Anna sets out to find dates (chosen by her kids), and write articles about them.
This was my first book by the author and I absolutely LOVED it! This book is definitely a true romcom.
Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for the Advance Readers Copy.

4.5 stars. The best Sophie Cousens book yet. Recently divorced Anna is focused on her kids and her magazine job and not much else. Not even her hot but annoying coworker, Will. But when the new magazine owner wants her to try something more exciting with her column, somehow she ends up writing about her dating life. And the dates are chosen by her children. Anna is willing to give it a shot, as long as none of the dates are with Will.

Nothing in the plot here is shocking, but more like sinking into a warm bath with a mug of tea and a good book. Comforting and friendly. Also some moments were genuinely laugh out loud funny. The resolution felt a little rushed, but generally it was a delight to read.

Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher, and the author for the ARC to review. All opinions are my own.

Thank you for the advanced copy, Netgalley & Penguin Group PUTNAM. Sophie is typically an automatic author for me to purchase, and I was very excited for this based on the synopsis. However, I couldn’t get into this book as quickly as the others — there wasn’t anything to snag my attention. It was a good read, but not one I would reach for again.

I want to start by saying thank you to the publisher/author for this advanced galley. I always enjoy reading Sophie Cousens. This book was not bad by any means, but has not been my favorite of hers. While it was not wildly addictive time, I enjoyed it and it was a relaxed read.

No surprise that Sophie Cousen's latest is a hit. I loved the chemistry build up between Anna and Will but did feel that their transition to lovers did seem a bit sudden, considering the ignored incident prior. However, the story was hilariously tender as expected!

Sophie Cousens had quickly become an autobuy author for me and her newest release did not disappoint. It had all the things I’ve come to expect from a Cousens read. Always providing a charming escape, while still giving me some things to think about and sit with when reading.

I loved the characters and setting of this one. The whole idea of her children choosing the dates really kept things fun and light. The story had humor, romance and a nice bit of relatability too.

If you enjoy your reads with more of a Women’s Fiction tilt, but a strong romantic leaning then you’ve definitely got to try hers!

I love novels that mix humor with a great plot and this one had both in spades. Anna’s gone through a rough divorce and is not interested in swiping right. When she feels threatened for her job at work she throws out this crazy idea about her kids picking her dates and hilarity ensues. I loved how the kids views on what constitutes a good date comes down to “he hates bikes too”. These dates made for some great storytelling, but really it was her frenemy at work, Will, that added some romantic tension and heat to the story.

I’ve read quite a few of Sophie Cousens novels and I have to say that I haven’t yet been disappointed by something that she’s written. She understands the romance formula and always creates a bit of a twist that catches the reader by surprise. Sometimes these twists provide a little magic to the tale, but in this case, the magic was the friendships that Anna developed while going on this journey of self-discovery and renewal. What a fun story and a great romance.

Is She Really going out with Him?
Sophie Cousens

possibly my fav from the month! had so much fun with this one🥰

Anna is a columnist and has her kids pick out people IRL who she has to ask out on dates while her coworker writes from the online dating experience

🗣️ single POV
👩‍💻 workplace romance, enemies to lovers
🌱 newly divorced mother of two has to reframe her life
💬 google searches at the start of each chapter make it so fun + really gets you into Anna’s mindset
💖 perfect for fans of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days film and Just my Type by Fallon Ballard!

I loved getting to read from an “older” than typical romcom book FMC age range. She’s newly divorced with young to middle grade kids, working hard at her job, making sense of a new normal. getting to see the dating experience and picks from her lense felt so different (still scary and new!) it was so easy to root for her & the men she met

I liked Cousens’ previous book, The Good Part, but I truly *loved* this read. I can’t wait to read what she writes next!!!

❣️thank you NetGalley and G.P. Putnam’s Sons for the e-ARC!!
