This book is everything I could ever possibly want in a romance. Relatable main characters, fun banter, a bit of enemies to lovers, a regency themed ball, what more could you ask for?!?

The book is about Anna, a reporter and divorcée who allows her kids to set her up on dates that she can write about for her newspaper column.

I loved Anna and Will. I loved hearing about their individual struggles with their families. Throw in an ensemble of quirky side characters (including a grumpy next door neighbor, an eccentric older woman, and a mailman obsessed with Jane Austen) and this was just *chef’s kiss*

If you like romcoms, you should read this book. I was so disappointed when I finished it because I wanted mooooore!!

Thank you to NetGalley and G.P. Putnam's Sons for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review! Look for this when it comes out in November!!

IS SHE REALLY GOING OUT WITH HIM?
RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2
GENRE: Romance, Women’s Fiction

Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Group Random for a copy of the ARC of this new Sophie Cousens book. A lot of Cousens books have a similar theme where our female protagonist are usually a bit lost and on a journey to self-discovery by doing something a bit out of character for them.

Our main protagonist, Anna Appleby, is a divorcee that is navigating co-parenting, competing against her work rival for the best columns at her lifestyle magazine, and just who is she post-divorce. Anna proposes a dating column to keep up with the changes at her magazine and finds herself on a series of dates that are chosen by her two children.

Is She Really Going Out With Him? can be a bit of a misleading title - I don’t think any of Anna’s dates (except for one) are on the unbelievable side. I do feel that Anna, at times, can be too self-deprecating and it makes me cringe and not want to root for her.

The writing was a bit slow for me so it took a while to finish. There’s a hint of enemy to lovers in this book so for those who love that troupe, you will eat it right up. The ending was a bit lackluster for me but I suppose it is more realistic.

Sophie Cousens is an auto-buy for me, and seeing her next novel pop up immediately made me squeal in delight. And it did not disappoint.

Each of Sophie’s novels have such original and interesting storylines that they are immediately engaging and refreshing. I don’t typically love a book that is focused on life after divorce, but the concept of a divorced mom getting back into the dating world with the help of her kids was such a breath of fresh air. Mixed in with a tropes such as a work place romance, enemies to lovers, and only one bed, and I fell hook, line, and sinker. Witty and absolutely delightful.

Absolutely loved this book and will be continuing to buy and read everything she writes.

A fun, relatable romance! Fans of this authors previous work will be impressed. I laughed out loud several times and didn't want to stop reading once I started!

Ok, so.. I loved this. This was the last book I finished in a read-a-thon over a weekend and this was by far the cutest, sweetest book I’ve read and way to end on a Sunday.

As a former divorcee’ who felt that dating post divorce was a hell I didn’t want to familiarize myself with and also then to have found love again- I just knew I’d connect with some of this story. Not only that happened but I fell in love with Anna’s character and journey. It felt real, raw and carried all the emotions you’d it expect too- which was such a nice experience!

I enjoy romance/rom-com stories (Abby Jimenez has my heart!) but this book just had me by the feelers and kept them until the very end. I didn’t expect to love it- I knew I’d like it.. but it was just too sweet & relatable that it is worth the 5 star rating!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to fall in love with this amazing and relatable story!

I was really drawn to this book because I’ve enjoyed prior books from this author. In practice though I struggled to connect with the plot and ended up not finishing it. Thank you for the arc in échange for an honest review.

Oh my heart, this book was so sweet!

Anna, a recently divorced mom of two, has to come up with an entertaining, new column to write if she hopes to keep her job. Seeing as she’s newly single, she decides to get back into the dating game. Realizing dating apps might not be best, she has her kids pick out dates for her and what ensues is a series of failures, new found friendships, and maybe a chance at finding love again.

I absolutely adore Sophie Cousens’ writing and this book did not disappoint! I loved the characters she wrote, everyone from the grumpy neighbor to Anna’s two kids. And the development that all the characters went through, it was perfect. The dates she went on were cringy but in such a relatable way, it felt like I was going on all the first dates with Anna.

THE ROMANCE 😍 Absolutely obsessed with Anna and Will, the tension was perfect and kept me enthralled the whole time.

I highly recommend this book to all rom-com lovers, easy 5 stars!

Thank you Netgalley for this ARC! 🥳

Having read a few titles by Suzie Cousins, I was excited to get a hold of her upcoming title Is she really going out with him? I loved this book as much if not more than her last book. You get invested in each character and don't want the story to end. I recommend this book to fans if Emily Henry, and Jasmine Guillory.

I just finished Is She Really Going Out with Him?, and let me tell you, it’s a fun ride! It really captures the ups and downs of modern dating with a great mix of humor and heart. The characters feel like real people, and I found myself laughing at their antics while also rooting for them to find love.

The dialogue is sharp, and the story moves along at a nice pace. It’s relatable for anyone who’s been in the dating scene—lots of laughs and a few “aha” moments. If you’re looking for a light read that will make you smile, this one’s a gem!

This book is great. The characters and situations feel real and emotions felt while reading it are very real. I love the humor, exhibited most in the female protagonist, but sprinkled everywhere. The secondary characters are unique and add so much to the story. I love that the children sounded and acted like children of their age. The banter between the female and male protagonist was enjoyable and their journey to love sweet (and steamy!). Library patrons should really enjoy this book.

Thank you for this book in exchange for my honest review. While I normally love Sophie Cousen’s books, I was unable to devote my attention to this book because it didn’t appeal to me as I began reading it.

Wow! This book is going to live in my brain for quite some time! Being a mom myself, I related to it so very much. Anna, a recently divorced, mom of 2 finds herself diving back into the dating world after declaring that she’s perfectly content being alone. The column she writes for is in need of a revamp so she’s now at the mercy of her children because they’re the ones that get to choose who she goes on dates with…and she basically can’t say no.

Will, the annoying hottie at work, that has to write alongside her and somewhat mirror her dating adventures, is now working more closely with her on an assignment on the side at a secluded retreat. Along the way they become closer and closer and I love the part where Anna finally starts to feel alive again and feels wanted and realizes she’s not just a mom and ex-wife.

Along the way, Anna develops new friendships and repairs existing ones. This is an amazing and funny story that I highly recommend and I LOVED the ending!!! Go get this when it comes out!

Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Group for the opportunity to read this beautifully written book and give my honest review!

This may be my new favorite Sophie Cousens book! Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for the opportunity to read and review this ARC!

Anna is a recently divorced mother of two who agrees to let her children choose dates for her as part of a last ditch effort to keep her job as a columnist for a local magazine. She’s paired up with her office rival, who is also vying for her column.

I thought the premise of this workplace romance was unique and so, so funny - I can only imagine who my kids would think of as good dates. I love the rivals-to-lovers trope and the tension/chemistry between Anna and Will was off the charts! This book had a great mix of humor as well as the real life emotions and worries that come with trying to be a good mom. This is a must-read for romance lovers!

Is she really going out with him features Anna Appleby and Will Havers. Both are column writers at Bath Living and in an attempt to save their jobs pitch writing columns about online and real life dating. The twist for Anna, her children pick her dates. It turns out, though recently divorced Anna has a second chance with love, not with who she would have expected.

I enjoyed the character depth and development of both Anna and Will. I would recommend this book for anyone looking for a sweet rom com!

Sophie Cousens has done it again with *"Is She Really Going Out with Him"*! This book is a heartwarming, witty, and beautifully written story about love, self-discovery, and second chances. The characters are so relatable and charming that you can’t help but root for them from start to finish. The dialogue is sharp and funny, and Cousens perfectly balances lighthearted moments with deeper, emotional themes. I especially loved how the story explored the complexity of relationships and personal growth in such an authentic and insightful way. If you're a fan of romantic comedies with a perfect blend of humor and heart, this book is a must-read. A truly feel-good, uplifting novel that left me smiling long after I turned the last page!

I loveddddd this book so much. It was witty and had English banter which is my fave. Anna is a divorcee who is a writer at a magazine in bath. When the magazine risks going under her new boss wants a younger direction. With a risk of losing her column to Will her enemy, she has to go on 7 dates with men her children pick while Will takes the approach of meeting his dates online. The story is clever and hilarious and I would love it to be made into a film. This is the perfect mix of enemies to lovers, finding yourself, and love after divorce.

Absolutely delightful! Sophie Cousens is one of my auto-read authors, she never disappoints. I loved that the romance in this was between a 38 year old divorced woman with kids and a younger man, and I loved the setup of being work colleagues. The 7 dates chosen by her kids, the cringy ex-husband and his cringier girlfriend, and the found family of Loretta and co (Loretta is AH-mazing, I wish she was real and MY friend) made it even better. So good.

Sophie Cousens delivers yet another heartwarming and charming read! Anna Appleby’s post-divorce dating journey is anything but conventional. Forced to share a dating column with her handsome, young, and infuriating rival Will, she’s set up on dates chosen by her kids while he navigates the world of post-divorce dating. What could go wrong? Well, falling for your competition definitely complicates things! This novel is full of warmth, humor, and that classic Sophie Cousens touch. While This Time Next Year remains my favorite, I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet and fun story!

This book reminded me of a hallmark movie, where the couple who’s attracted to each other has so much sexual tension that they wait till the end of the movie to act upon it. I enjoyed this book, but felt it took too long to get to where it needed to go. I would have liked the pace to move a little quicker. Overall, good story and great ending.
