This book is a challenging read because it revolves around an 11-year-old boy who goes missing and explores the impact of this event on his family and friends more than 20 years later when his jacket is discovered, reigniting the search for his body. The narrative includes multiple viewpoints, with one of them being Davey, the missing boy, recounting the day of his disappearance. We gain insight into the mindsets of everyone around him, both on that day and in the days leading up to and following the discovery of the jacket.

The story delves into themes of loss, regret, hope, and much more. It portrays a wide range of emotions as it unearths secrets and feelings from all the narrators. One aspect I particularly appreciated is that each point of view has its own narrator, which adds an authentic feeling and necessary separation, especially since there are numerous perspectives, including some that span both current and past timelines.

I’m grateful that we didn't learn the details of what happened to Davey, as I don't think I could have handled that, considering he is a child. Overall, the book is both heartbreaking and hopeful. While it may be slow in places and introduces many characters to keep track of, it is a truly poignant story that often feels more like true crime than fiction.

Captivating characters make the slow burn of this book even better! Although not filled with a bunch of twists and turns I found I couldn’t stop listening and quickly formed a bond between the characters leaving me thoroughly invested to find out how the end would go and found myself reaching for the box of Kleenex. A very real and emotional end. I will definitely be looking for more titles from this author and will definitely look for the narrator in future audio books.

This is a look at the disappearance of a little boy, the people who were around the night it happened and how their lives and relationships were affected by this event.

What worked well for me:
- characters that were real, believable, and relatable; every one of them was likable and I wanted resolution and healing for them
- a small town setting that was true to life and perfectly relatable
- a fantastic plot that was so engrossing for me, perfectly paced, not a thriller but still so engaging and I wanted to know what was going on and what was happening with these characters
- that cover! Wow!

What didn't work for me:
- nothing

I LOVED this story so much!

Thank you HarperCollins Focus for sending me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was just not for me.....
Way too many POV's too early without letting the reader connect and care about any of the characters. I thought it was very slow and I had to dnf at 50% unfortunatley.

A moving and strong novel with great narration! I really enjoyed Every Moment Since. It had a deep and haunting story, intriguing plot, and the multiple character perspectives really pushed it along at a great pace. I would consider reading more by this author in the future. This is a book that may not get all of the glitz and glam of some of the world's TikTok-viral books today, but I think any sort of positive review about this one would be well deserved.

This is an emotional small-town drama about the disappearance of Davy Malcor. He disappeared 20 years ago, at age 11, when he went to play in a field with his brother and a group of kids one night. He was never seen again.

Thaddeus, TJ, is the older brother who is out on book tour after writing a very popular book about his brother’s disappearance. While on tour, his brother’s jacket was found in the woods and the case is reopened.

Thaddeus returns home to be with his family. Less of a “thrilling, twisting” thriller, this is a slow-paced character driven book about grief and loss. We really tune into to the Malcor family, and how they are all dealing with the pain and trauma over the last several decades. The characters are so well formed and emotional, you really feel their feelings here.

The book is written in dual time lines, from the night Davy disappeared and the present time. I listened to this on audio and the full cast was a bonus to the experience.

Although the overlying theme of this book is sad, it’s a great read. You are side by side with this very vulnerable family as they journey through the unthinkable.

This book definitely brought back memories from the simpler days. We had a “field” in our neighborhood and it was a free-for-all. Kids running around everywhere. There were bike paths, ponds, creeks, woods- we were all over the place. I miss those days.

Thank you NetGalley and HarperCollins Focus for an advanced ALC.

EVERY MOMENT SINCE by Marybeth Mayhew Whalen (Narrators: Cassandra Campbell, George Newbern, Kirby Heyborne, Jane Oppenheimer, Macleod Andrews, Renata Friedman)

🎧Thanks, HarperCollins Focus | Harper Muse, for the advanced review copy of the audiobook via NetGalley. (Available now) 9 hrs and 48 mins

This story, told in two timelines, is about a little brother who disappeared in the 1980s. It reminded me of MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT, but better. Told in four POVs, the story provides insight into four very different perceptions of events, especially once a recovered piece of evidence reopens the cold case 20 years later.

Thaddeus, Davy’s older brother, wrote a best-selling memoir about his family’s experience. Tabitha, Davy’s mother, is filled with regret, living alone and advocating for victims’ rights. Anissa, herself a child when Davy disappeared, serves as the family’s Public Information Officer. And Gordon Swift, long suspected in the disappearance, just tries to keep his head down and get by each day.

Attracted by the perfect Autumn cover, this mystery by a new to me author was a chilling read that drew me into the lives of the people affected by the disappearance of a young boy in this small Southern town. Perfect for fans of true crime stories and psychological domestic suspense and good on audio with a full cast of award-winning narrators. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early audio copy in exchange for my honest thoughts.

I picked up this book for the fall vibes, mystery, and family drama, and I was surprised by the depth of the family story and the grief that spools out through the the pages. I have a son who's away at college, so the story of the missing boy and especially his brother's feelings really got me. I love a mystery, and this book does follow a mystery, but is so much more about the characters and community affected by the mystery. Great read, and especially amazing on audio with the cast of voices. Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Audio for the gifted copy of this book.

Wow. This book drew me from the very start. I absolutely loved the whole cast of characters doing the audiobook narration as well. This is a book about grief, family, and how tragedy affects so many people for the rest of their lives. Every Moment Since shows how the lives of the Malcor family changed when their middle son Davy went missing one night. This dual timeline and multiple viewpoint novel really shows the grief people hold inside and the guilt that eats away at families and even strangers on the 'outside.' This book gave me "All The Colors of the Dark" vibes as well - if you liked that book I would definitely check this out. This was a 5 star read for me. Thanks to NetGalley and Harper Muse for this audio ARC.

The writing is so good!! I loved the overall plot and that there wasn’t a huge twist at the end, the story flowed so well with the multiple povs and dual timeline.

Not a fast paced thriller by any means but it’s very good and for me was a rather quick read.

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this in exchange for my honest review.

4.5⭐️ This was a great, emotional mystery. I loved that it had several POV’s and the audio was a full cast. I felt like the author did a great job tapping into each character’s emotions and how they would handle their family member going missing. I was sucked right in and didn’t want to put it down. I could feel the character’s heartache, which made me tear up several times. I was able to predict a bit of the mystery but it didn’t take away from my interest in the story.

Marybeth Mayhew Whalen’s *Every Moment Since* is a poignant, beautifully written exploration of a small-town tragedy that ripples through the lives of those left behind. With haunting prose and a sharp eye for character, Whalen delves into the hearts of her characters, revealing the complexities of grief, guilt, and the search for redemption.

The mystery of Davy Malcor’s disappearance provides a compelling backdrop, but the true strength of the novel lies in its characters. Thaddeus, with his glossy memoir hiding unspoken truths; Tabitha, a mother weighed down by regrets she can’t admit even to herself; Anissa, caught between her own youthful secrets and her professional role; and Gordon, the long-suspected man struggling to escape the shadows of the past—all are vividly drawn and achingly human. The uncovering of Davy's jacket reopens not just the case, but old wounds, forcing each character to confront their own versions of the truth.

The Southern setting is richly evoked, grounding the story in a place that feels as alive as its people. Whalen masterfully interweaves past and present, drawing readers into the tangled web of what was lost and what still might be found.

While the pacing lags slightly in the middle and some resolutions feel a touch rushed, the emotional depth and the powerful themes of hope and healing more than make up for it.

*Every Moment Since* is a thoughtful, gripping read that lingers long after the final page. A must-read for fans of character-driven mysteries and Southern fiction.

I read this book but few moments remain in my memory. I believe the book was not vivid enough.
This is not a thriller or a suspense book, this is an emotional book about the inner turmoil of three individuals somehow connected with the disappearance of Davy.
The book is loaded with sentiment and second thoughts and conscience to the level of drowning the reader, but the narrator is so good, she keeps the level of the book steady without allowing you to drift away.
The book is readable, though some may find it a bit slow. Change of PoV helps reading the book faster and changing the train of thoughts from time to time.

This book started off very strong. It hooked me quickly and had me guessing. Then it started to get cumbersome. There was a lot going on and more and more characters started appearing. The connections between characters started to seem random with no real purpose. I did enjoy the dual timeline and the full cast reading. The narrators were exceptional. A solid read overall.

In the small town of Wynotte, North Carolina, everyone remembers Davy Malcor. They remember the video clip of him juggling four balls "all at the very same time" and the Marty McFly jacket his mother lovingly made for his birthday—a jacket he proudly wore everywhere. But what no one knows is what truly happened to Davy the night he disappeared over twenty years ago. When that same jacket unexpectedly resurfaces, the long-cold case is thrust back into the spotlight, dragging Davy's family into yet another media frenzy.

At the core of this gripping story are people whose lives were forever altered by that fateful night. Among them is Thaddeus Malcor, Davy's older brother, who built his career on a bestselling memoir detailing their family's tragedy. While he enjoys fame and success, the book doesn't reveal the entire truth, and the resurfacing of the case threatens to expose long-buried secrets.

Every Moment Since is more than just a mystery; it's a poignant exploration of the lingering impact of loss, guilt, and the "what if" moments that haunt those left behind. I was drawn into this story and captivated by its multiple POVs. The different character points of view are seamlessly interwoven, creating a genuine multifaceted narrative.

The cast of narrators in the audiobook does an exceptional job of bringing each character to life, adding depth and emotional resonance to the story. The pacing is excellent, keeping me engaged from start to finish.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a gripping mystery centred around a missing child and the rippling repercussions felt by everyone involved.

Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins Focus | Harper Muse for providing me with an audio-ARC in exchange for my honest review.

"Davy still counted; his lingering presence was current, not past. Davy was in every week, in every moment since he went missing."

"It's as if God had said this one's special; he won't be here for long."

Some stories stay in your mind but a few live in your heart. The emotionally gripping Every Moment Since, by expressive prose author Marybeth Mayhew Whalen, is such a novel.

In 1985 a perfect storm of events sadly led to 11 year old Davy's disappearance. His parents planned a night out but so did his 15 year old brother TJ. The compromise was TJ taking Davy with him. The problem was TJ got distracted and Davy wandered away.

Now, 21 years later Davy's jacket surfaces. All the festering wounds are uncovered as Davy's Mom Tabitha, keeping a daily regret diary, tops the list with, "I regret not being the mother I should be to the children I have left." This writer squeezes our hearts with the overwhelming continued grief Davy's disappearance has on his family and town.

Going back to that fateful night is viscerally unsettling as the author puts us right there following Davy not knowing how it happens but how it will end.

A full cast enhances this heartbreaking story. Voice actors CassandraCampbell, George Newbern, Kirby Heyborne, MacLeod Andrews and Renata Friedman bring their A game. The standout is the ultra talented Jane Oppenheimer. Her depth of grief as Tabitha, realizing, knowing what happened to Davy will bring closure, but not knowing gave her hope, will forever be with me.

The mystery is solved but this is more a story of feelings, of coping when the unthinkable happens. Beautifully executed, making every moment count.

I received a free copy of this audiobook from the publishers via #NetGalley for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.
