Very well done. The story of how a family manages after tragedy. Well-developed characters. Satisfying and well-written. The audio is exceptional, full cast.

Twenty years after little Davy Malcor disappeared without a trace in small town North Carolina, his jacket is found and the cold case suddenly reopens. Every Moment Since alternates timelines- from present day to the night Davy vanished. What happened to Davy that night and will his family ever get closure?
Wow! I couldn’t stop listening to this audiobook. The story held my attention the whole way through. I can’t resist a dual-timeline/multi-narrator mystery. The story was emotional and heartbreaking. I didn’t feel quite as connected with the characters as I wanted to, and the story felt similar to another book that came out recently. But overall this was a really interesting and well-written book. The narration on the audiobook was also great.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Muse for this free audiobook in exchange for my honest opinions!

I was so looking forward to this after reading the blurb. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I was pretty disappointed. It fell flat. There was no tension whatsoever. The tension level was Ben Stein narrating game 7 of the World Series in the 11th inning. Like it should be there, but it wasn't. You also would expect that you'd feel sympathy for Davy's family. Nope. Thaddeus is intolerable. His mother is regretful but also comes off apathetic. You never even get to know his dad and sister. Outside the family, Annisa's secrets make ZERO sense to me. Gordon Swift is about the only character I liked in this.
I also think there should have been more time spent on the initial investigation. It is mentioned that it was bad but glossed over. Why? Why was that area never searched?
My rambling makes this sound like a terrible book. It wasn't. It just wasn't as great as it could have been. Many missed opportunities.
I really like that they used a full cast of narrators for all of the POVs.
I received an advance audio copy in exchange for an honest review.

What a heartbreaking story. Every Moment Since is the story of the people left behind after a boy goes missing. Told many years into the future, it shows the impact grief and regret has on the way lives are shaped. The story is told from multiple perspectives - the brother of the missing, the mother of the missing and the publicly accused perpetrator being the main viewpoints.
This book is wholly unputdownable. The only reason I couldn't give this book a full rating was the family's reaction during and immediately after the funeral. It didn't feel like it carried the emotional weight (shock, anger, hurt, etc) that I would have expected.
This would be a tough read for many, so please keep triggers in mind.

Every Moment Since explores the devastating consequences of an unsolved missing children's case. Davy Malcor went missing over twenty years ago without a trace. His friends and family coped all in different ways and not all of them healthy. When his iconic "back to the future" jacket is finally found, all the emotions are running high once again.
I really enjoyed this book! The author did a very good job portraiting the problems that result from such an unsolved case. All of the protagonists have a difficult time moving on, be it because they feel guilty for not being home to coping with being accused of the crime.
The story is written in multiple POV (mother, brother, girl who saw Davy last, guy accused of the crime). All of them have a distinct voice. I didn't like all of them, but their actions were understandable nonetheless.
The book is also written in dual timeline - now and the night Davy dissappeared. I love dual timeline stories! It was very well done.
I had an inkling of who was really involved about 60% through the book and I was (mostly) right. 😊 This didn't dim my enjoyment at all but left me feeling a little smug.
I listened to the audiobook and I think this enhanced my enjoyment even more. Each POV had their own narrator and all of them did a very good job. I could feel the different and at times conflicting emotions.

Thanks to Netgalley and Harper Muse for a download of this audiobook!

This is way too real. I was so very sad. Life is so hard and so sad. I loved the ending but it made me cry. The narration was perfect.

Every Moment Since is an atmospheric, emotionally insightful mystery about a missing young boy, told in alternating past and present timepoints. The writing style had a lyrical almost meditative feel, and the author beautifully captured the emotional experiences of many people impacted by the loss of young Davy. Much more than the mystery of what happened to Davy, this was a story of secrets, grief, love, hope, and the reopening of old wounds.
Enjoying this in audiobook form almost felt like I was experiencing the events alongside the characters. The full cast narration was such a treat, and made it possible to follow the various characters effortlessly.
Thank you HarperCollins Focus, and NetGalley for a copy of this book. Opinions expressed are my own.

Four bright shiny stars for this incredible audiobook! I thoroughly enjoyed the large cast narration. With multiple POV and dual timelines, this heartbreaking story kept me enthralled for just under 10 hours.
Highly recommend!
Thanks to Netgalley, Harper Muse and Marybeth Mayhew Whelan for the ALC in exchange for my honest feedback.

Marybeth Mayhew Whalen pens a story that is about a topic most of will never experience, a missing child. She comes at the store from many different points of view, each of the family members affected by this tragic event. The older brother, whose job it was to take care of his younger brother. The mother who has to deal with this loss for so long and then the story from the child who goes missing of the events that led up to the event.
Each person story is so different and yet sadly the same. They blame themselves. As we work through their lives until they find a clue that might change everything.
I was sure I knew who did it, but as the story unfolded it became clear that Whalen was penning her own story. I should not put that story in a box. It kept my attention the whole entire book. I love Whalen's writing style and have for a long time. She writes a character driven book that makes you want to stay in the story for as long as possible. I had to know what happened.

I enjoyed each character and their connection to Davies disappearance. It kept you on the edge of your seat, questioning what truly happened. I did not expect the plot twist at the end.
I definitely need a physical copy of this to save my favorite quotes and to reread every year

Story about the aftermath of a little boy’s disappearance. Initially I thought I was going to have a hard time being invested in this book as it’s told by multiple POVs, narrators. However, it ended up being very easy to follow and captured my interest. Describes so well how such devastation can alter the lives of surviving family members and friends. I listened to the audio version and narration was perfect.

Wonderful, heart wrenching book that follows a family in the aftermath of a beloved middle child going missing. The trauma that followed the family and member’s of the community felt authentic on every page. As a child of the 80’s I felt connected to the setting, the references and the characters depicted in this story. The audiobook narration was outstanding.

Big thanks to NetGalley and Harper Muse for the ARC! This book felt like it dragged on, but I also flew through it at the same time. The story was intriguing, but all that slow build-up led to an ending that wasn’t as wild as I expected.

This was a really good book. A wonderful thriller with so many twists and turns. I couldn’t put the book down.

Thank you Netgalley for this advanced audio edition of Every Moment Since by Marybeth Mayhew Whalen.
This was such a well constructed book. It's centered around a little boy who went missing more than twenty years ago, but the heart of the story is really around the main people that his disappearance affected, as well as their part that they played. You have his mother, his brother, his friend, and the man originally suspected of his disappearance.
Each chapter is given through their perspective, the aftermath and trauma that they've experienced, as well as the relationships with each other. It's full of anguish, forgiveness, love, and a very slow unfolding of what actually happened that fateful day.
I thoroughly enjoyed this, it was not what I expected, it was much more gentle, loving, and heartbreaking. Highly recommend.

Every Moment Since
Marybeth Mayhew Whalen
The setting is Wynotte, North Carolina, 2006. Everyone in town knows eleven years old Davy Malcor. If they didn’t know him personally, they would have seen his picture. A boy in a plaid jacket just like the one Marty McFly wore in the movie Back to the Future. They may have seen a video of him juggling four balls. A plaid jacket has been found, the same jacket he was given for his birthday; the same jacket he was wearing when he disappeared. The jacket was last seen on Davy Malcor when he went missing in 1985. The cold case has been reopened.
Four people were all connected to Davy and the night he disappeared.
On the night Davy disappeared his parents had left Thaddeus aka TJ, in charge of watching Davy. Thaddeus is profiting from his brother’s disappearance. He has written a bestselling book concerning the nightmare his family went through when Davy disappeared.
Davy’s parents are divorced; his mother, Tabitha is still living in the family home and is a victim’s advocate.
Anissa Weaver is a Public Information Officer. She is the family’s liaison. She saw and talked to Davy the night Davy disappeared. She is determined no one will discover her secret.
Gordon Swift was the main suspect in the disappearance of Davy. He was never tried in a court of law. He has carried the burden of suspicion for twenty years.
The story moves back and forth between past and present.
This tale is more than a mystery. It demonstrates the emotions of the family and friends of Davy Malcor. This tale shows the face of grief and hope; it examines how tragedy spreads much like a pebble thrown into a pool of water; the ripples spread in a widening circle around. Many people were affected by one child’s disappearance.
Thank you NetGalley for the review copy.

I listen to the audio book. I stopped listening so many times because it didn’t hold my interest, but I was hoping it would turn around. I found the story was simply and was just retold by many characters that really added nothing to
the story at all. I don’t like giving negative reviews, but this won was a dud for me.

"Every Moment Since" is a poignant exploration into the different and distinct ways members of a family and a community deal with a tragic situation. When a little boy goes missing one night less than a mile from his home, an entire small town must come to grips with the disappearance and its aftermath. It's now 20 years later, and the little boy is still missing, but a man who has recently purchased some property close to where the boy was last seen finds his jacket in an outbuilding. An investigation long cold suddenly has new life.
If you're looking for a police procedural, though, or a classic whodunit, that's not what you'll find here. This story is so much more personal than that. We follow several characters connected with that night: Thaddeus, the brother of the missing boy who has written a bestselling memoir about the disappearance, Tabitha, the mother who still lives in the house her family occupied at the time; Gordan Swift, the local artist who was the prime suspect in the case; and Anissa, who now works for the police but was present on the night of the disappearance. In amongst these chapters, we get flashbacks to that night 20 years ago and also excerpts from Thaddeus's book, and it's all blended together to create a seamless narrative of the upheaval and tragedy that this event brings to the entire community.
This is an excellent look at guilt and grief from so many different angles. Although we do want to know what happened, that's not really the point. Rather, we get to know each individual involved, and we get a clear glimpse into how their lives continue to be affected by a long ago tragedy. It's heartbreaking at times, but also uplifting and hopeful to watch as people move through the tragedy and find ways to go forward. This book will appeal to mystery fans, but it will also appeal to those looking for a book about family, small town community, and how we all need to come together when life is hard.

This was such a good book. I would have finished in a day if I was reading it, but I had the audio and didn’t have many opportunities to listen. It was a well done audio book though, and such a gripping story.
I have never read anything by Whalen, but I absolutely will read her again.
This book was about a missing boy, but I feel like it clung so closely to the emotions of the characters involved that I was more focused on them and less on what happen to Davy the night of his disappearance.
Don’t get me wrong, I was curious what happened, but I was so swept up by the people mourning him, I forgot to try and figure out who could have made him disappear.
This book is devastating, but also beautiful in ways.
I enjoyed listening. 4⭐️
