Genuinely enjoyed the read. It had a different pace than what I am used to, but I could definitely see it as the opening season to a mini series. We have the what & parts of the who & how...but they are left a bit unsettled...especially, the why. Perfect cliffhanger, hoping for a 2nd book! 😁

This is my second Marybeth Mayhew Whalen book that I've enjoyed. She's a gifted writer who puts a lot of feeling into her stories.

In 1985 in a small-town in North Carolina an 11 year old boy named Davy Malcor went missing. Now over 20 years later his jacket is found in an old abandoned shed. The police once again begin to search for his possible remains. The story goes back to that fateful night but also jumps to the present (2006) to the lives of the people that were most affected by his disappearance. His mother Tabitha, his older brother Thaddeus who was in charge of him that fateful night, Anissa, a girl who he was with that same night, and a mysterious man named Gordon Swift. In between their stories we get "snippets" from a best-selling memoir that Thaddeus wrote in 2005 about his missing brother.

I listened to this audio and the narrators were perfect for the story. A little over half way through I also received a digital copy so I began to read as I listened.

This story is told slowly and it works quite well. There's a mystery to what really happened that terrible night that kept me listening and turning those pages quickly. This was an emotional read that left me somewhat forlorn at the end.

I'd like to kindly thank NetGalley and Harper Muse for the Advanced Listening Copy and the Advance Reader's Copy. All opinions are my own.

I loved this book, which offered a riveting account of the disappearance of an 11 year old boy, and what happens to his family as the years pass. The story unfolds in multiple timelines, alternating between the events of the night of Davy’s disappearance in 1985, excerpts from the memoir written by his older brother years later, and from the points of view of multiple characters in 2006, when Davy’s jacket is found and attention returns to this cold case. I listened to this on audiobook, which presented these timelines using multiple narrators, and this really brought the story to life. While the events of this book are harrowing and tragic, they are told with compassion and presented realistically through the characters and the small town setting. I found myself captivated by this sad but thoughtful story about grief, loss, and family dynamics. Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this audiobook. Highly recommended.

Every Moment Since
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
What a heart breaking beautiful book. The Author did a fantastic job of telling such a hard terrifying story in such a cool way that was full of hope & ultimately full of joy. Trauma is powerful & life changing. So many people affected family, friends, falsely accused, & more. It runs deep but it matters what you do in the end. Super powerful book.
Thank you NetGalley

3.5 rounded up. It's hard to match the storytelling of Marybeth Whalen, a favorite of mine for a while and I'll always jump at the chance to delve into another of her treasures. I had the pleasure of listening to the audio version of this one which added a special aspect to this haunting tale. As the mystery unfolds, the emotions of each person affected by the disappearance of the boy are brought to life. I definitely recommend the audio version of this one and would like to thank HarperCollins Focus for providing a review copy via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

Had never heard of this one and was excellent on audio! Different narrators for the POV also has dual timeline and was easy to follow and keep up! Narration was perfection!

Masterful storytelling and just fell in love with the Malcor family, the town and all the characters. Absolutely excellent writing! You feel all the things with each of them.

Love the book cover and so thankful for my advanced audio copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. Thanks to netgalley and Harper muse for my copy.

4.5 stars for me.
This book was set a medium pace. Very enjoyable narration and a truly great story. I loved how it had me sucked in from page one, and I could not guess the ending. This novel is perfect to read by a fire pit, surrounded by orange and brown leaves. look forward to reading more from this author!

I listened to about 30% and just felt very bored - I liked the flashbacks but I didn't feel enough tension, I didn't really care what happened... the stakes weren't high enough... this needed to feel a bit more sinister or urgent and it was just very slow.

Every moment since by Marybeth Mayhew Whalen

This book is basically about a family who has to move forward after a cold goes missing. The parents split and the eldest son feels like he is to blame. Thaddeus the older brother writes a memoir about it and when new evidence comes to life, Thaddeus must return home and wonder if they will ever discover what happened to his little brother.

It was a bit chilling. The characters weren’t great. I am not going to lie. It took me ages to warm up to them but the story was super sonic interesting and I was really invested in what happened to Davy and whether he was kidnapped, murdered, or something equally as heinous or whether he got into an accident and no one found him.

The ending was great and I did have a bit of a cry so grab the kleenex.

4 stars

First off: Thank you to the author and Netgalley for providing me an ARC in exchange for my honest review!

i really enjoyed this book. i've been waiting to review it to really let it ~ferment~ in my brain and after three weeks of finishing this book i still think it holds up.

i didn't really become overly attached to any of the characters, but i don't think that was the intention of the book. instead, the narrative itself was gripping and beautifully haunted by tragedy.

the multiple narrations build an incredible overview of how many lives davy's disappearance affected, and in how many different ways. interlaced with the flashbacks to what happened, the narrative is beautifully assembled and wonderfully unreliable. everyone is speaking from only their point of view, which is something i really enjoy in books.

the different narrators of the audiobook help the different viewpoints and stories really come to life, and helped me not get lost with who was speaking and what was happening. i love audiobooks with a cast of narrators.

all in all, it's definitely a book that stayed in my mind and i could see myself re-reading.

Every Moment Since is everything I hoped for and more! This was my first book by Marybeth Mayhew Whalen, who masterfully weaves a tale filled with gripping suspense and deep emotional resonance. From the haunting discovery of Davy Malcor's jacket, twenty-one years after his disappearance, to the heart-wrenching conclusion, I was completely captivated.

This book evokes such strong emotions; it had me on the edge of my seat, desperately flipping pages to uncover the truth behind Davy's case. Whalen's beautiful prose dives into the complexities of grief, forgiveness, and the weight of lost childhood, making characters like Thaddeus Malcor and his mother, Tabitha, feel profoundly real. Thaddeus, who pens a bestselling memoir about their family's ordeal, grapples with childhood guilt that turns to anger, leading him to be less than fully honest in his narrative. While his actions are understandable given that he was a teenager burdened by the responsibility for Davy's disappearance, it left me with mixed feelings about his character.

The nostalgia throughout the story had me reflecting on real-life tragedies, such as the Adam Walsh abduction, which not only rocked his community but also had a profound impact on the world. Whalen effectively captures that sense of lost innocence, evoking a deep connection to the reader's own memories of childhood and safety.

The vivid sense of place she creates in Wynotte, North Carolina, enhances the story, immersing readers in the emotional turmoil of this small community. You won't want to miss Every Moment Since. It’s a compelling read that keeps you guessing until the very end. Trust me; you’ll find yourself saying, “Just one more chapter,” late into the night!

This was a very enthralling mystery that slowly unravels the story behind a little boy’s disappearance over two decades prior. The plot is shared through different characters’ perspectives, both in present day and the night of the disappearance. I loved the way the author reflected both the good and bad of each character, all equally being completely portrayed with depth and emotion that was reflected in such a real manner. The buildup of that tragic night’s events was slow, but engaging from start to finish.

With changing views and dual timelines, it’s typically easy to get lost or confused, but that didn’t happen once with this story. The audiobook narration was fantastic, and surely helped with that. This was a surprisingly great audiobook, that I highly recommend to any fans of this genre.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ALC in exchange for my honest review!!

This book started off a little slow for me and I struggled with the multiple timelines/character povs/memoir excerpts in the beginning. But once I got used to those shifts, I really got into the book and could not put it down. Davey's story was so interesting, especially the perspective of the family as victims and the idea of people using their story for their entertainment. It's kind of like that moral grey area of true crime for entertainment - is it ethical? I loved the commentary on regrets and grief and how pretty much everyone was grieving differently for Davey. This was a very good read that kept me interested and also had me thinking deeply about these different topics and putting myself in the character's shoes.

Living with the disappearance of his brother and the secret he has been keeping about that night, Thaddeus writes a bestselling book about the ordeal with a few details strategically left out. Then his world is turned upside down when his mother calls and tells him to come home immediately because they have just found the jacket his brother was wearing that night. Grief, guilt, first time crush, guilty until proven innocent are all present in this story of loss and love and how we never really move on.

“All I discovered is there is no end to grief that’s how know there is no end to love” -Bono

It’s been 20 years since Davy, just a kid, disappeared. Now his jacket has been found and his family is left in another media storm, this time hoping they will finally get the closure they have been seeking. So many people’s lives were changed when Davy went missing, and they are all ready to finally know what happened.

This was such a terribly sad book. Davy was just a kid when he went missing, and his family has struggled ever since. I will say this book was a bit slower than I expected, but by mid book I could not stop listening! I certainly did not see the ending happening, but I really like how we find out what had happened to Davy. Overall, this is an excellent book, but be prepared to be sad while reading it and once you have finished.

Thank you to @harpermusebooks and @arielestewart for my gifted copy of this book!

This gripping novel follows the story of a young boy, Danny, who went missing two decades ago, leaving his family shattered and a community in turmoil. The narrative picks up when Danny's jacket is discovered, prompting the reopening of his cold case.

The author skillfully delves into the emotional depths of the characters, revealing how Danny’s disappearance has profoundly affected their lives. As the investigation unfolds, long-buried secrets and new revelations surface, complicating the lives of those involved.

The narration is commendable, drawing readers into this poignant tale that explores themes of grief, accusation, and the impact of unresolved trauma. The book's beautiful cover complements its impactful storytelling, emphasizing the message that judgments can have devastating consequences. A heartfelt read that lingers long after the last page.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Harper Collins Focus | Harper Muse for the opportunity to listen to this advanced audio copy in exchange for my honest opinion!

Every Moment Since by Marybeth Mahew Whalen
During the Summer of 1985, in Wynette, North Carolina, Davey Malcor disappeared after playing “night games” in a field with his brother and other children. Suddenly 20 years later his jacket is found and everyone is called together again to consider this new evidence. Lives were forever changed by the process of grief, guilt, and loss. Old hurt is rekindled and connections made in the shadow of that pain as a new investigation is initiated.
This story could be considered a study in tragedy and how it changes everyone it touches. There is grief, loss, and a yearning for closure that never lets you completely move forward. Davey’s brother, Thadeus, wrote a book about the tragedy but carried his guilt and pain silently. Gordon, an artist, was the main suspect then and now and feels so worn down he is willing to go along with the narrative of accusations to make them stop and save others continued agony.
This book has multiple points of view and a dual timeline between the disappearance and the present, giving it a past/present perspective.
This was an excellent book with the tone of a slow burn through grief and loss dealing with life afterwards and no great twist at the end but a really well told mystery.
This was a full cast narration and all of the narrators did a phenomenal job in giving a voice to the individual characters and added an element of feeling to the story. I really enjoyed listening to the story!
Thank you to NetGalley, Harper Collins, and Marybeth .Mahew Whalen for the proof reviewing an ARC of this audiobook.

I listened to this on audiobook and it definitely made for an enjoyable experience given there are quite a few people’s POVs to follow.

It’s a powerful story of loss, grief and the search to find the answers to a tragedy that took place some years ago.

The pacing was really good and I was engaged throughout due to the beautiful writing and way the author takes you on each persons journey as they deal with their own guilt and sorrow.

I’d definitely recommend this.

A jacket is unexpectedly uncovered and the cold case reopens in the beginning of this story. 11-year-old Davey has been missing for over 20 years. His family is thrust into yet another media storm. But at the heart of the story are four people forever changed by one single night...

This story had me hooked from the first chapter. Full cast audio experience. 2 timelines, then (1985) and now (discovery).
This isn't a police procedural like I've read about in small towns, but it's more of a character study of what a deep loss and a missing persons case can do to not only the family but the town itself. Everyone remembers. Everyone processes the holding out of hope, or grief, differently. While you do finally find out what happened, it's not a "gotcha!" moment. It's somber - no different than the rest of this story. But don't get me wrong -- this book is far from a boring, somber. It tugs deep. Perhaps because I remember the real life disappearances as the author notes in the beginning and end of this story. I remember the milk cartons and seeing missing kids while eating my breakfast. I can see the bikes and freedom of those days.

Overall, I loved this story and highly recommend. It's a birds-eye view into how grief and loss can impact more than what/who you might think.
This is my first from this author, and it won't be my last. 4.5⭐️

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishing team for the chance to read/review!

Every Moment Since is an emotional and powerful mystery surrounding one family's grief when their middle child goes missing. Twenty years later when new evidence is discovered, the Malcor family must reunite to dig up old wounds and search for closure. I have never read anything by Whalen, but I will definitely read her again. Thank you for letting me read this book early! I will recommend this book to my library.
