NC setting. Multiple points of view. Not a rip through and forget it read. Enjoyable and thoughtful. Mostly likable characters, haven’t felt that way in a while. I think most people will enjoy this one. Especially on audio, easily consumable. Thank you for the chance to preview the ALC

What happened to Davy Malcor? The multiple points of view were confusing at first, but they all came together.

Since Davy vanished 20 years ago, several people's lives were impacted in ways they couldn't have ever imagined. His family still hopes for answers, especially now that his jacket has been found.

The pacing was slow throughout, but I enjoyed reading it nonetheless. However, I was disappointed by the ending, as everyone seemed to just accept what happened. I had expected more anger and disbelief from those affected by Davy's disappearance.

Many thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins Focus | Harper Muse

This was a pretty sad, heavy story. As a mother it was difficult to read at times. Very well written with great character development. 4 stars from me:

I really enjoyed this crime/mystery novel, featuring an amazing and full cast of audiobook narrators. This is my first book by Marybeth Mayhew Whalen and it won't be my last.

Publisher's Blurb: "A small Southern town. An ordinary Saturday night. A little boy disappears without a trace. Everyone in Wynotte, North Carolina, knows the name Davy Malcor. Knows the video clip of him juggling four balls....Knows the Marty McFly jacket his mother made for his birthday that he wore proudly, and often. But no one knows what happened to him the night he went missing more than twenty years ago. When the jacket is unexpectedly uncovered, the cold case reopens, and Davy's family is thrust into yet another media storm. Thaddeus Malcor, Davy's older brother, created the life of his dreams by writing a bestselling memoir about his family's experience and is enjoying success and notoriety as a result, even if the memoir doesn't quite reveal the whole story."

Pros: What worked for me: the well-developed, mostly likeable, characters and a setting both cozy and foreboding, since in a "normal" small town in North Carolina, a young boy could go missing without a trace for so many, many years.

Small Con: I really enjoyed the entire novel with one exception and that was too much time spent on Davy's brother Thaddeus, who I found to be a depressing, self-centered, sad man. But that portion isn't the whole of the story, so don't let that stop you! And perhaps you'll enjoy Thaddeus more than I did. I really enjoyed all the other characters so much, including the young female, the parents, and many townspeople...

I LEFT A NOTE FOR THE GOODREADS LIBRARIANS TO ADD THE AUDIOBOOK TO THE AUTHOR'S PAGE.

I really enjoyed the underlying theme of renewal for all of our characters here. Davey’s loss created a gaping hole in their lives, and the years of confusion and lack of answers took its toll. The multiple character POV worked well here— to see the varied reactions of mother, brother, friend and how they worked through their own grief. That emotion was displayed accurately from my own experience with it, including the isolation from others and the pause in self development when holding onto a memory.
I liked this book, and it worked well in audio format, but there was something that felt like it was missing for me. I didn’t feel satisfied or relieved when finding out the truth of Davey’s disappearance, but I felt agitated. I can see how it works with the rest of the story as a whole, but it felt muted in comparison to what led up to it, and the emotional response of the characters felt too simple when the truth really involved so much betrayal and dishonesty.
What I can say is that the author’s note was genuine and kind, and I can see how this is a representation of processing thoughts on paper. It is clear that Whalen wants to respect the lives of those who have lived through such a traumatic experience, and I give her so much credit for taking on a difficult topic.

When a child goes missing and isn't found...this affects so many people in so many ways. In this case it affects four the most profoundly. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC/audiobooks.

Thank you, HarperMuse, for the ALC.

I find the writing really cosy and well paced. It’s fast paced when required and slowed down when there’s emotions to deal with.

The narrators are really good. I would totally recommend the audiobook!

The plot is well executed and the characters are quite well written.

I would suggest you to take your time while reading this book. The ending is somewhat not as quite satisfactory as expected during the entire read. However, it is a well written story and gets quite emotional.

This book is mostly a mystery that revolves around Davy Malcor's disappearance more than 20 years ago. It has a very slow build-up and the reveal was kind of lacking for me, it's not quite mind-blowing if you compare it to other crime mystery books so I don't know if I would really consider this a thriller.

Honestly, the book focuses more on family dynamics, showing the aftermath of Davy's disappearance and how it affected all the members of his family and their relationships with each other. Especially that of his mom, Tabitha, and his older brother, TJ — both narrators of the story.

The 2 other narrators are Anissa — she has a connection to Davy when they were kids and to his family now that the case has been reopened, and Gordon — the man who was suspected of the crime.

Since this has multiple POVs, I loved that it was also a full-cast audiobook. I think it enhances my connection and understanding of a character when I can actually hear their thoughts from their own voice.

Overall, this was a beautifully written novel about a family and a whole community after experiencing a tragic loss and how they found closure after many years and navigated towards forgiveness and healing.

Thank you NetGalley for this advanced copy. I think I am in the minority and did not enjoy this book. I had a difficult time connecting to the characters and almost didn’t finish.

Very well done. The story of how a family manages after tragedy. Well-developed characters. Satisfying and well-written. The audio is exceptional, full cast.

Twenty years after little Davy Malcor disappeared without a trace in small town North Carolina, his jacket is found and the cold case suddenly reopens. Every Moment Since alternates timelines- from present day to the night Davy vanished. What happened to Davy that night and will his family ever get closure?

Wow! I couldn’t stop listening to this audiobook. The story held my attention the whole way through. I can’t resist a dual-timeline/multi-narrator mystery. The story was emotional and heartbreaking. I didn’t feel quite as connected with the characters as I wanted to, and the story felt similar to another book that came out recently. But overall this was a really interesting and well-written book. The narration on the audiobook was also great.

Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Muse for this free audiobook in exchange for my honest opinions!

I was so looking forward to this after reading the blurb. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I was pretty disappointed. It fell flat. There was no tension whatsoever. The tension level was Ben Stein narrating game 7 of the World Series in the 11th inning. Like it should be there, but it wasn't. You also would expect that you'd feel sympathy for Davy's family. Nope. Thaddeus is intolerable. His mother is regretful but also comes off apathetic. You never even get to know his dad and sister. Outside the family, Annisa's secrets make ZERO sense to me. Gordon Swift is about the only character I liked in this.

I also think there should have been more time spent on the initial investigation. It is mentioned that it was bad but glossed over. Why? Why was that area never searched?

My rambling makes this sound like a terrible book. It wasn't. It just wasn't as great as it could have been. Many missed opportunities.

I really like that they used a full cast of narrators for all of the POVs.

I received an advance audio copy in exchange for an honest review.

What a heartbreaking story. Every Moment Since is the story of the people left behind after a boy goes missing. Told many years into the future, it shows the impact grief and regret has on the way lives are shaped. The story is told from multiple perspectives - the brother of the missing, the mother of the missing and the publicly accused perpetrator being the main viewpoints.

This book is wholly unputdownable. The only reason I couldn't give this book a full rating was the family's reaction during and immediately after the funeral. It didn't feel like it carried the emotional weight (shock, anger, hurt, etc) that I would have expected.

This would be a tough read for many, so please keep triggers in mind.

Every Moment Since explores the devastating consequences of an unsolved missing children's case. Davy Malcor went missing over twenty years ago without a trace. His friends and family coped all in different ways and not all of them healthy. When his iconic "back to the future" jacket is finally found, all the emotions are running high once again.

I really enjoyed this book! The author did a very good job portraiting the problems that result from such an unsolved case. All of the protagonists have a difficult time moving on, be it because they feel guilty for not being home to coping with being accused of the crime.

The story is written in multiple POV (mother, brother, girl who saw Davy last, guy accused of the crime). All of them have a distinct voice. I didn't like all of them, but their actions were understandable nonetheless.

The book is also written in dual timeline - now and the night Davy dissappeared. I love dual timeline stories! It was very well done.

I had an inkling of who was really involved about 60% through the book and I was (mostly) right. 😊 This didn't dim my enjoyment at all but left me feeling a little smug.

I listened to the audiobook and I think this enhanced my enjoyment even more. Each POV had their own narrator and all of them did a very good job. I could feel the different and at times conflicting emotions.

3.75 stars

This is way too real. I was so very sad. Life is so hard and so sad. I loved the ending but it made me cry. The narration was perfect.

Every Moment Since is an atmospheric, emotionally insightful mystery about a missing young boy, told in alternating past and present timepoints. The writing style had a lyrical almost meditative feel, and the author beautifully captured the emotional experiences of many people impacted by the loss of young Davy. Much more than the mystery of what happened to Davy, this was a story of secrets, grief, love, hope, and the reopening of old wounds.

Enjoying this in audiobook form almost felt like I was experiencing the events alongside the characters. The full cast narration was such a treat, and made it possible to follow the various characters effortlessly.

Thank you HarperCollins Focus, and NetGalley for a copy of this book. Opinions expressed are my own.

Four bright shiny stars for this incredible audiobook! I thoroughly enjoyed the large cast narration. With multiple POV and dual timelines, this heartbreaking story kept me enthralled for just under 10 hours.
Highly recommend!

Marybeth Mayhew Whalen pens a story that is about a topic most of will never experience, a missing child. She comes at the store from many different points of view, each of the family members affected by this tragic event. The older brother, whose job it was to take care of his younger brother. The mother who has to deal with this loss for so long and then the story from the child who goes missing of the events that led up to the event.
Each person story is so different and yet sadly the same. They blame themselves. As we work through their lives until they find a clue that might change everything.
I was sure I knew who did it, but as the story unfolded it became clear that Whalen was penning her own story. I should not put that story in a box. It kept my attention the whole entire book. I love Whalen's writing style and have for a long time. She writes a character driven book that makes you want to stay in the story for as long as possible. I had to know what happened.

I enjoyed each character and their connection to Davies disappearance. It kept you on the edge of your seat, questioning what truly happened. I did not expect the plot twist at the end.

I definitely need a physical copy of this to save my favorite quotes and to reread every year

Story about the aftermath of a little boy’s disappearance. Initially I thought I was going to have a hard time being invested in this book as it’s told by multiple POVs, narrators. However, it ended up being very easy to follow and captured my interest. Describes so well how such devastation can alter the lives of surviving family members and friends. I listened to the audio version and narration was perfect.
