The Inheritance lets you marinate in the characters from the first chapter. I felt the family dynamics and saw the mystery. I like layered family dramas, and this didn't disappoint. Everyone had secrets, and I waited patiently for reveals. I kept reading, and with a house full of kids competing with this book for my attention, it means something that the book got finished. 4.5!

Oh this family! They have so many issues and won’t confront any of them. But the Agarwals are headed to a remote island for a week to celebrate their parents 40th anniversary. All seems well on the surface but there’s lots of darkness beneath the surface. A very interesting and enjoyable read!

"The Inheritance" is a twisty locked-room mystery full of secrets, lies, and family drama. I devoured this book and couldn't put it down. The story is told in alternating timelines from the perspectives of Maya and Zoe. I enjoyed the dual POVs and timelines because it kept me guessing as to who was actually killed and who the perpetrator was, and the remote island setting created lots of tension and suspense. The beginning of the story was a bit slow, but it really picked up in the second half. There were some surprising and enjoyable twists, and I never saw that ending coming. Overall, this was a compelling and addictive suspense novel.

The Argarwals have arrived on a tiny remote Scottish Island for a family reunion. Altogether there are five of them - the patriarch Raj, an Indian business tycoon, his wife Shalini and their three adult children Aseem, the son and heir with his wife Zoe, an influencer, older daughter Myra, who owns the island and the luxury retreat she is establishing, and younger daughter Aisha, a party girl who gets under everyone’s hair.
Although the reunion is a chance for Myra to show off the resort to her family, Raj also plans to use it to announce the succession plan for his company. All members of the family have secrets they are keeping from each other and the stakes are very high indeed as before it’s over someone will end up dead.
Although it starts of a little slow, but once the layers start to peel away, the tension builds to with twists and revelations to expose family dynamics in overdrive in a truly vile family! Who is murdered and who will murder them is something you’ll be trying to work out right to the end.

If you like a remote island setting and a family of unlikeable characters, this might be the book for you! The Agarwal family has lots of secrets and will do anything to keep them under wraps. While this did pick up at the end, most of it was a slow burn and I was just waiting for something to happen.
Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Group Viking for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

I guess I am the outlier here, but I ended up DNFing this one. The first person narration was a huge bummer and kept ,me at arms length from the story. I wanted to keep going based on all of the praise but it was a slog and felt like work to keep picking it up and reading with disappointment.

A remote luxury island off the coast of Scotland with a violent storm moving in makes the setting eerie for this locked-room mystery. Add in a dysfunctional family with a lot of secrets and some shady agendas and you are guaranteed a dynamic twist. These people are cold-hearted, ruthless and ready to wreck some havoc for money, even kill someone.
"Most family reunions end in tears. This one will end in murder."
The Agarwals are having a family reunion....not your typical family get-together. Raj, the father and a millionaire, is retiring and plans to divide his mega between his children.
Myra, the owner of the island and his golden child, is hosting the reunion. She has faced some adversities with her heart broken, loss of a baby and on the brink of bankruptcy. She plans to tell her father she needs money.
Aseem, son and heir, has quit his job to take over his father's company, but torn between his loyalty to his father and his wife, Zoe. She feels like an outsider because his family doesn't accept his marriage arrangement. She was introduced to Aseem by the youngest daughter, Aisha, who likes to defy her parents wishes and party.
The POV is Myra and Aisha from two different viewpoints, which gives it a cutting edge. Don't look away even when it slows way down in the middle because the author sprinkles clues throughout. You will not know who died or who the killer is until the finale.

This book had me hooked from page one. Stories that dive into families and their secrets have always intrigued me and this one 100% delivered. A bit more of a slow-paced read, with most of the action happening towards the end, but it completely worked for this story. Told from, mostly, two pov’s, and a bit of a past/present timeline, had me constantly turning the pages, needing to know how this was going to end. I definitely did not see that ending, which I love in a mystery/thriller. And that last line of the book! Fantastic. Thank you for the opportunity to read/review this eARC!

A family reunion that ends in murder. Full of betrayal, murder, secrets and family loyalty. I loved this thrilling read! I kept trying to figure out who eas going to be murdered and was completely wrong! Then, when I thought who the killer was, WRONG again!

A bit of a slow start, but when it picks up speed it rollicks along with the reader firmly grasped in its teeth. Twisty and turny, a great weekend read.

The Inheritance is proof that you can change your mind about a book! For me, it started off a little slow and a little heavy on the family drama as a very wealthy Southeast Asian family gathers to celebrate the anniversary of their matriarch and patrirarch.
Mr and Mrs Agarwal are on a private Scottish island with their three children and two significant others. There's lots of shade-throwing and each character has some things they are keeping from the others.
The ending was far more dramatic. Just like the remote Scottish island on which it is set, it takes some time to get there but is well worth the trip.

4 stars!!Thank you to NetGalley for this arc. This book takes you on a wild week-long trip with the Agarwal family as they gather at their oldest daughter Mira’s property in Scotland to celebrate their parents’ anniversary and their dad’s upcoming retirement.
The family includes Raj and Shalini, their three kids—Mira, Aseem (and his wife Zoe), and their youngest, Aisha. At first glance, they seem like a picture-perfect family, but trust me, they are anything but. Everyone has secrets, including the parents, and as the layers peel back, the drama, tension, and even murder make for an unforgettable read.
If you’re into juicy family drama that includes a murder, this one’s for you. It could see this as a TV show, in the best way! So entertaining, I couldn’t put it down.

Every family has their secrets - but how far will one go to protect them?
The Inheritance is Trisha Sakhlecha’s debut thriller here in the US, and I think she’s going to create a lot of buzz with this one! A rich family gets together on a private island but instead of a happy reunion, one of them ends up murdered.
If you’re into locked room mysteries and dysfunctional families, you’ll be in for a treat! I would categorize this as more of a family drama with suspense rather than a thriller. While it was a slow burn, I enjoyed the characterization and did NOT see the twists coming. (Please check TW before reading)
Thank you Penguin Group Viking for providing me an eARC through NetGalley!

Did not finish book. Stopped at 30%.
I am a third of the way through and the only thing that has happened in this story is a bunch of spoiled brat characters complaining about how they have blown millions of dollars and need their billionaire father to retire and sell the company so he can give them money. There is nothing at this point in the story that makes the reader want to continue reading.

Who do you trust when you can’t trust your own family? THE INHERITANCE by Trisha Sakhlecha delves into the secrets we keep from each other and the lies we tell to ourselves.
Gathering on a privately owned remote island off the coast of Scotland, the Agarwals gather for a long awaited family reunion. Raj, patriarch and business tycoon of multimillion dollar PetroVision has an announcement he wants to make. His wife, Shalini, is looking forward to Raj finally announcing his retirement. After he suffered a stroke four years ago and was bedridden for 18 months, she feels it is time for him to pass on the reigns and for the two of them to enjoy their hard won retirement. Oldest son, Aseem, is the apparent heir to the company and ran it during the time that his father was ill. He and wife Zoe live in India where she posts #InstaPerfectLife, which in truth is all lies. Myra, the Golden Child, owner of the island and host of the reunion is drowning in debt and close to bankrupt. And rounding out the family is Aisha, party girl who likes to cause trouble wherever she goes. When Raj finally makes his announcement everyone’s future plans are left in the dust and the cracks on their facades begin to show. And then someone winds up dead. But who, how and why?
I love any book with luxurious surroundings and people living beyond any means I could imagine. This book had all those things in spades. Mostly dysfunctional dynamics and somewhat of a mystery, it kept me turning page well into the night. The writing was smooth, clear and concise which led to a very enjoyable read. I was shocked to learn that this is by a relatively new author as it came together so intricately, I had expected a much more seasoned author. I can’t wait to see where she takes me next.

Thank you Netgalley for this ARC of The Inheritance by Trisha Sakhlecha.
The Agarwals are a wealthy family, reuniting on a remote Scottish island to discuss what will become of the family money once the patriarch passes away. But each member of the family is holding on to a painful secret, secrets that could become deadly if discovered...
I really enjoyed the slow fleshing out of each character, which added to the growing tension as the book developed. But maybe it was a bit TOO slow moving? Otherwise, great story, lots of unexpected moments, and that's all I'll say about that!

I loved this layered family saga with a thriller mixed into it. It started off slow but the pace picked up and evened out throughout the book. I honestly wasn’t sure who to believe in this family. I wasn’t sure if they were all lying or what! This was a standout thriller that thriller lovers will love!

It took me a bit to get into this book. I was wanting more twists and thrills throughout the book but the ending definitely made up for it!
This is a family psychological thriller and this family is full of secrets!
I would be interested to read more from this author.

I did not enjoy this book. There were too many annoying relatives and way too much squabbling between them all. Thank you to NetGalley and Pamela Dorman Books for the complementary ARC. This review is my own opinion and not coerced in any way.

How far would your family go to protect you? That is the question as the discussion over selling the family business proceeds. Each of the three remaining children have homes and dreams for their future inheritance. They have come together on a remote Scottish island to learn of their father’s plan. When the father announces he will not be retiring and selling the business, secrets start to unravel. Will the secrets explode the family or bring them closer in a shared new secret?
