You think you know the direction in which this story line is going until you don’t!

The Inheritance is a mystery/suspense novel about family, privilege, and culture and all that those entail. The Agarwal family is close, but what ties them together? Is it loyalty, cultural expectations, love, money, shared family trauma, or dark secrets? This family may protect their own at any cost, but can they trust each other?

This novel is well written and engaging, it has nice character development, and definitely keeps you guessing. I thought the wrap up was a little rushed, but, overall, I enjoyed this read and would look forward to reading more by this author.

Fantastic debut! A wealthy family reunites on an isolated Scottish Island - family drama abounds. A murder occurs and you get some snippets in the "Now" chapters, but still don't find out who and why until nearly the end. Great pacing throughout. Who wouldn't like a little peak into the lives of the rich, famous, and terrible?

Wow, this was really good. It would say it’s less mystery and more family drama, but just enough mystery to keep you hooked. I really enjoyed this and was shocked at the end, which I love!!

3.5⭐️— The Argawhals, a very wealthy Indian family, gather on a secluded island to celebrate Papa’s retirement, Mama and Papa’s anniversary, and finally find out how the inheritance is split. All the kids have plans for their portion and are not so pleasantly surprised with Ppa’s announcement of staying on with the company. Every member of the Argawhal family has a dark secret, but one thing is the same- Family comes first. The only question: who exactly falls into the category of family?

The main characters are both female and this book is very well written. However, my main reason for giving 3.5 out of five stars was I found it very slow until about 70% through. The author leaves little breadcrumbs throughout about everyone’s secret and there are even some chapters with present day and what happened (although you don’t know whose point of view you are reading).

Incredible! This combination results in a thrilling read, which is why I rated it five stars.

This read hit home on close family reunions and all the possibilities of secrets, greed, if family really comes above all else. and what family, the one you came from or the one you start. The emotions it brings out will have you guessing to the end. As an avid reader it is rare that the main characters are of a different culture and ethnicity than the average most writers use, which made me respect even more how the plot ties into the culture. You won't see the plot twist coming, once of which also is jaw dropping, I recommend you pick this up and give a read.

The Reunion plunges readers into the tangled web of the Agarwal family, whose much-anticipated gathering on a luxury island off the Scottish coast turns into a high-stakes drama of secrets and survival. Raj, the powerful patriarch, is set to announce the future of his multimillion-dollar business, but beneath the surface, every member of the family harbors dangerous secrets.

From Myra, the golden child facing bankruptcy, to Aisha, the party girl with a penchant for chaos, each character is on the brink of unraveling. As tensions mount and loyalties are tested, it becomes clear that this reunion will do more than just shatter the family’s illusions of unity—it may cost someone their life.

With a gripping plot and a cast of characters as flawed as they are fascinating, The Reunion is a thrilling exploration of greed, betrayal, and the dark side of family ties.

Trisha Sakhlecha’s “The Inheritance” is a gripping psychological thriller that will linger in your mind long after you finish reading it. It masterfully weaves together complex and deeply moving themes of cultural heritage, power and privilege, and harmful family secrets. Set against the backdrop of an elite, powerful Indian family, the novel unravels the complex relationships between three siblings as they grapple with the dark legacy left by tragedy decades earlier and deep parental manipulation throughout their upbringing.

Sakhlecha’s writing is both sharp and evocative, drawing the reader into a world where appearances are deceptive, loyalties are tested, and siblings are competitive against one another. The intricate plot is filled with unexpected twists, making it impossible to predict what will happen next. The characters are deeply flawed yet compelling, several carrying their own burdens, character flaws, and secrets that slowly come to light.

What makes The Inheritance truly stand out is its exploration of contemporary social issues, such as gender dynamics and the pressures of familial expectations, all while maintaining the suspense of a high-stakes mystery. Sakhlecha’s ability to blend these elements seamlessly makes the novel not just a thrilling read, but also a thought-provoking one.

This is a novel about the weight of inheritance - not just of wealth or property, but of history, manipulation, trauma, and identity. It's about the choices we make to honor our past or forge a new path. And it's about the enduring bonds of family, even when they feel like a burden. Or knowing when those bonds of family are actually chains that need to be broken and the inheritance is not worth the guilt and pain.

Overall, “The Inheritance” is an absorbing and sophisticated thriller that will keep you hooked from start to finish. It’s a must-read for fans of psychological dramas with rich, layered storytelling.

This was a great thriller and a new author to me. I love family drama where secrets are revealed. This one dealt with secrets and family relationships. Not everything is as it seems and each member has something to hid and something to gain by the inheritance. Information is leaked through the novel to put things together. I really enjoyed this and would read more by Sakhlecha.

I enjoyed this family drama thriller! A wealthy family on a private island argue about the family company, overbearing parents and huge family secrets are revealed! One family member does not leave the island alive. Surprises right up to the end of this book. Love it!

A dual POV where one of the individuals is dead but we don't know who?? Yes please! The book had me on the edge of my seat the entire time wondering what was going to happen next. The entire book I was guessing who was dead, who did it, why, and what would happen next and it just was such a thrill!

I couldn’t get into this one unfortunately.
I’m not sure if it was the writing or what but it wasn’t for me.
Thanks NetGalley for the opportunity to read it though!

I appreciated the dueling viewpoints and how the book kept us in suspense but the ultimate revelations were slightly laughable. Zoe's fate seemed particularly cruel and pat at the same time; while some of the book felt real, it ultimately felt like it was trying to do too many things -- and ape too many genres and inspirations -- at once.

Stop what you are doing and pre-order this book right now!!! I'm telling you this was my favorite thriller of the year so far! A stroy about family and the lengths you'd go to protect them, how greed and money can change your motives, and how the thirst for power will make you stop at nothing to get what you want.
This is not your typical thriller and the story of these characters and their behaviors made my blood boil. This family is so cold hearted, narcissistic, and gaslighting each other to the nth degree. This family just gets worse as the story unfolds and twist and shocking twist are revealed.
This story follows 2 POVs Myra and Zoe and is told in a way that will keep you flipping pages quickly.
I would say to go into this blind and be surprised, because the ending I did NOT see coming and was shocked at the darkness of this family.
In the beginning you know someone is dead, but who, why, and what transpired to lead to the death.
Overall, a brilliant book with trauma, darkness, greed, manipulation, and what lengths people are willing to go to.
Than you to Netgalley and Penguin Group Viking/Pamela Dorman Books for the ARC of this book!

A family who is gathering to celebrate their parent's anniversary but there are bigger secrets looming on the deserted island that their sister calls home. A fight for the money leads to long kept secrets being revealed and shows you sometimes family does stick together, even through a murder.

From the outside, the Agarwals have the perfect life. Rich, connected, close to each other-- no one could want for more. Beneath the glamor, however, lies a tangle of secrets related to a decades-old tragedy that has twisted family love into choking obligations that require the ultimate sacrifice. Myra, born into the family, and Zoe, who married in, alternate POV as both begin to realize what grief has metastasized into for the entire clan during what should be a celebratory weekend. Everyone knows their role in the family, and everyone plays it to deadly precision. Recommended for Louise Candlish and Lucy Foley fans.
