The Accomplice - Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson

⭐️⭐️⭐️

There’s a lot going on in this story - it’s multi POV with graphic crime scenes & a lot of violence. It’s quite short, so a quick, easy read.
It was abit unbelievable & I think that’s why I didn’t love it. It was enjoyable - just not phenomenal.

Thankyou Netgalley & HarperCollins for access to this book in return for an honest review.

Summed Up: Action Packed Accomplice

When I told my husband I was diving into 50 Cent’s debut fiction novel, he just laughed and said, “You’re going to love it no matter what.” 😅 I mean, he’s not wrong - I’ve been a huge rap and hip-hop fan forever, so I was already rooting for 50. But a rapper writing a fiction novel? I was nervous!

I took a deep breath, channeled my inner “Go shawty, it’s your birthday” and went in with no expectations. Guess what? I was pleasantly surprised!

This book is packed with great characters, loads of action and a Texas setting so vivid I felt like I’d been dropped right into the heart of the Lone Star state 🤠

I don’t usually read many books like this, but I love watching movies with robberies, guns and all the drama, so I can definitely see The Accomplice hitting the big screen in the future. 🎥

A big thank you to HarperCollins and Netgalley for the sneak peek 📚

I am thoroughly enjoying what I have read so far, getting to know the characters and their back stories, it is a thrilling and well written read, the only reason I am pausing on the story at this point is because I wasn’t able to add the book to my Kindle or Kobo readers and I struggle to read anything on my tablet because it is too heavy, too bright and causes me to get headaches unfortunately, but I will most definitely be buying this when it is released so I can finish reading it on my tablet.

I am very grateful to Netgalley and Harper Collins Australia for the opportunity to read this Arc, as a fan of Curtis Jackson and his Power Universe TV series on Stan Australia I was over the moon to receive the Arc and I absolutely love what I have read so far, I will be snapping it up on the day of release and I will post a full review to Goodreads, Amazon, Kobo and StoryGraph once I finish.

In the Accomplice, we are introduced to Nia Adams - a Texas Ranger (the first black female ranger). Following a bank robbery - appearing to be very small scale, we are introduced to Desmond - a Vietnam vet turned thief, stealing the secrets of the rich. In this case, the bank held dark secrets of the Duchamps who have a lot of money and power to prevent these secrets from coming out. As the book settles in, we get differing point of views - which adds a nice detail to the book. We meet various characters, the violence ramps up and we get a lot of dead bodies.

I thought this was incredibly well written with great detail and a well thought out storyline. I loved Nia, a strong female lead but with problems of her own, which are unraveled as the book progresses. The crime storyline is , clever, interesting, not too over the top and the book flows nicely. A few twists and turns and it's fast paced so I didn't once lose concentration. I was swept up and taken for the ride and loved every minute of it.

I hope we haven't seen the end of the dynamic duo of 50cent and Aaron Philip-Clark as this was simply superb. A very easy 5 stars.

Well, I certainly didn’t expect 50 Cent to be an author, let alone an author of such a book. It’s a thriller with a tightly managed plot and sharply defined characters. The style is precise and concise, maintaining a sense of rapid pace without sacrificing descriptiveness. But it also offers, almost as asides, astute observations on race, misogyny, power and the ways of an increasingly wicked world. As a result, it’s far, far cleverer than the average thriller. My only complaint is that I could have done with about 200 more pages.
