This book was unexpected in such a good way. First of all, it was incredibly short. I loved the writing styles in short vignettes and it made it so easy to fly through. I did take a break halfway in because it was getting very sad and I needed time to decompress. I really enjoyed the ending and reading the author’s note made the story more meaningful.
Wow. I have been a fan of Sophie Kinsella since the first Shopaholic story. To hear what’s happened to her, while maintaining her humor, was both heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. I will definitely be recommending this book to everyone I know.
Ok, so I absolutely adore Sophie Kinsella's (Madeline's) work & have been reading her for nearly 25 years. Becky from Shopaholic is a super-fav character. So this new title "What Does it Feel Like" hit me really hard - like crying on my iPad hard hard - when I understood that this one was very, very personal, as the author had a brain tumor just like the MC, Eve here, also a novelist. ALL THE STARS!! Recommend so highly to even those not into Rom-Com/Chick lit. Many, many thanks to Net Galley & the publisher for the advance readers copy - so moving and special to read & review this one!!
If you've ever picked up #sophiekinsella book then you will instantly recognize her method of writing that always hooks me on page one and leaves me always wanting more. But in that, you'll feel a raw realness in this short story. Kinsella basically tells you why through every word and yet, you don't know for sure that you were unfortunately correct until the Author's Note. Thank you #netgalley for the #arc and thank you to the author herself for the reminder that there can be a luckily even in the darkest sentence.
A beautiful, sad, raw, heartbreaking book. It made me love Sophie Kinsella even more. Thank you to NetGalley for the early read.
5⭐️ Hang on, I have to stop crying to write this review 😭 Sophie Kinsella was the first author I read as a young adult. Her Shopaholic books were my favorites, and I read them all through high school and college. They were truly a huge part in me finding joy in reading. When I found out Sophie was diagnosed with brain cancer I was devastated. She means so much to me. This book feels like a love letter to her readers.
This book is technically fiction, but it’s more of a retelling of her story. It almost reads like a memoir in third person. I found myself deeply moved, crying often, and hugging my family a little tighter. Having been through a traumatic diagnosis with my son, I also found parts of the book easy to relate to and oddly comforting. I absolutely loved every bit of this beautiful book. I hope everyone reads it.
Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy.
Not at all what I expected, but likely because I saw that it was a Sophie Kinsella book and I just clicked download without reading the description.
Having said that,..an interesting perspective on a sad topic that turns out to be her actual reality. A very fast read and while a tough topic she writes it in a way that still somehow makes it feel lighthearted. Worth the read but certainly not a typical upbeat Kinsella book.
Brave, moving, poignant, and heart-wrenching. Although this is a novella, the emotion could fill a 500 page book.
This is a beautiful and touching book—the must read of the year.
I read this book in one sitting and I was crying by the halfway point. Told in a series of vignettes, this is a powerful piece of autofiction about a writer diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. This is definitely the most intimate piece of writing Kinsella has released, and the tone is quite different than her other books. The humour is less outlandish and more of a dry wit. And yet it retains an inherent sense of optimism. The core of this book is about love, and the way the writer’s relationships with her husband and family have strengthened her.
I’ve been reading Kinsella’s books since junior high (and I’m 33 now!) and I’m pleased to report after reading this book that she comes off as even more likeable than her wonderful characters. I’m so touched that she allowed us readers this glimpse into her journey.
I have loved Sophie Kinsella since her Shopaholic series (which I read back in college and I am now 40!). This was a beautiful (and quick) novel to give us a glimpse into what she has experienced the last 2 years. She is incredible and I pray she continues to fight and succeed!!
This is the first book I’ve read without putting it aside to start something else in months.. I do remember reading The Unwedding in full without being distracted except not
able to remember enough details to review sorry to say. Cancer diagnoses do seem to run in cycles and it’s so inter3sting post Covid coincidence?
that once rare gioblastoma diagnoses are so in the media. I recently knew someone that died within two months after stroke post surgery a totally brutal surreal diagnosis and it’s so hard to know anything that could be said to help Sophie..so happy for her care team family and the will to keep on writing..this is a book written so heartfully I
am sure I won’t forget it.
Beautiful and heartbreaking. Made all the more heartbreaking knowing that this is based on Sophie Kinsella’s own experience. Obviously nothing like anything she’s ever done, but I loved it all the same. She can truly write anything.
I give the book 4.5 stars. I received a free ebook from Netgalley in exchange for a fair and unbiased review. I have read a few of the authors other books. I didn't know what the author had gone through until I started this book.
This was the first time I read fiction and non-fiction in a book. It's mainly non-fiction with a few facts changed. It's based on what the author went through.
It's an emotional book. The author, also, makes it funny, optimistic, and light. It's difficult to make such a hard topic positive. The author is definitely a shining light
The book is a very quick read. I finished the book in less than 24 hours.
It's a good book for anyone going through rough times. It makes the journey not so bad.
I am thankful to the author and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this important book. I look forward to reading the authors next book.
What a fantastic story of optimism and finding happiness in the worst circumstances. It was a quick read that had you feeling all the feels! What a well written book!
As an Occupational Therapist, this was such a unique perspective of the experience of someone going through this including her therapy. I have worked much with brain injury and this was a must read. I really appreciate her sharing her experience.
This book gives many feels but Sophie Kinsella
really opened to share all she has been through. She is strong and amazing and full of hope.
I have been such of fan of Sophie Kinsella from her first book and read everything she writes.
Thank you NetGalley and Sophie Kinsella for this read and the advaced copy.

The first thing I will say about this book is that you will need tissues! I wasn’t expecting this to be so heartbreaking, or to find out it is based on the authors true life story.
I truly enjoyed reading this book and recommend that everyone give it a shot. It is a short story but you will laugh and cry so much throughout the book.
Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this title!

Wow. What a story. What an experience. Sophie Kinsella has delivered again. This was moving in so many ways. Thank you for the opportunity to read it!
What an emotional and heart-wrenching read. Kinsella portrays her cancer journey with optimism, strength, and her lovely sense of humor. Stay strong Sophie. I don't want to live in a world without Sophie Kinsella books. xx
Thank you Net Galley for the opportunity to read this novella early. I have previously read Kinsella’s Shopaholic series so I am familiar with her style. This is a fictionalized version of her recent health struggle. It is an intimate look at a difficult diagnosis.
