This was a fun one! I read it with my baby and we both enjoyed it. I will need to buy us one for us to read again.
Thought this was a fun and colourful book which would encourage interaction with your little one.
The perfect gift for a parent who wants to pass on their own loves and interests.
Although this was not traditional or necessarily a learning tool, I still thought it was enjoyable.
A colorful board book for kids 3-5, that enables book lovers to pass along their love of reading to the children in their life. A joy!
I expected this book to be more focused on bookworm culture and more general words but the words were ultra specific and truly this wouldn’t be used with a child. I could see it be a funny gift for someone who enjoys literary fiction but I personally wouldn’t give it to a friend for a baby shower.
I don't love books that are really for the parents, and this is exactly the case. If you are looking for something that makes you nostalgic this may be a good board book for your child.
Funny, quirky, and adorable. Memorable tidbits of famous and popular books in the formats of pictures and words for toddlers learning how to read. I definitely got a kick out of it.
What's the purpose of this book of this was targeted towards young readers?
Not all words are easy and not most importantly not all young readers are familiar with the words which were used or keeping a reference to the said books. Depiction of the words with pictures in background were not for even all adults to understand for they have been indicating to.
For say, 'Creature' was used with Frankenstein's pic but do all children in their very young age can see any relevance if they never had picked such a gravitas book? or 'Star-crossed' for Romeo and Juliet? or 'Satire' used for Animal Farm which in itself was and is at some places banned for young readers.
These words are not familiar to show their references back to the books they tend to tell about except few like 'Puffed sleeves', 'The Gita', 'Courage' and few more.
I do want to further spoil my mood by writing more of it but this seems to me as worthless collection of words.
📚 This board book is so darn cute!
📚 Teach your little bookworm words like epistolary, moor, whodunnit, author, foreshadowing, dog ear, wardrobe, red herring, golden ticket, onomatopoeia, Lilliputians, plot twist, Pemberley, and more! Words range from very simple/general to quite specific. I had to look up a word or two to understand the reference myself (like Oblomov).
📚 Cute and colorful illustrations will help parents explain the book-related words.
📚 Parents and teachers will love this book just as much, if not more than, the kiddos! It would make a great gift for any bookworm!
📚 This book is part of the 100 First Words series. My granddaughter had the 100 First Words for Little Geeks book when she was little and I can highly recommend that one too!
Thank you @NetGalley and @FamiliusBooks for a copy of this book, which I have read and reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
Very fun take on the traditional ABC book for little one. I especially love the slight fantasy feel to the words chosen!
These books are so fun! This one is great for all book lovers. Each page has words that relate to a book you can guess. I loved it. I would say it really goes over a child's head and this one has a few scary pictures. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!
I was very disappointed in this book. I grew up with first 100 words and I absolutely loved it growing up so when I saw this bookworm one, i immediately downloaded. This book however, did not do justice in my opinion. This is for children but it has some words that I didn’t even understand.
I sadly will not be purchasing a copy for myself.
Thank you to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for this e-ARC.
This book was hilarious, beautiful, and made my English major heart happy... However it was a book much more for me than my kiddos. They indulged me but they were ready to move on. Some examples of words included were simple words such as skull (with an illustration associated with Hamlet) and whale (illustration an allusion to Moby Dick) as well as others such as Duex ex machina and allusion that will go over most kids' heads. The illustrations are all allusions and references to classics from Shakespeare to Charlotte's Web.
I would absolutely buy this as a baby shower gift for my fellow book nerd people.

Erm – I'll come back to you when I know what the point of this was.

I’m not sure who should read this book, as it maybe not suitable for toddlers if it means for their first words to learn. The words are too complicated and difficult concept for the toddlers/ young bookwormers to understand. The word choice is too abstract, not something that the toddler will see it on a daily basis.
Unfortunately this is not the book I will recommend…
Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for my copy.

This is a great picture/sight books. The pictures are high contrast, bright and engaging. I read this with my almost 3 year old and he was absolutely glued to the pages and incredibly engaged with pointing out and telling me what he saw. It also provided a wonderful opportunity to teach some new words and talk about new concepts. There are some more advanced and obscure concepts depicted and may be appropriate for a little bit of an older age group, but fun for the parent reading as well. Overall great take on a picture book.
This is too delightful for words! Book lovers, you must buy a copy to tuck in every baby gift you buy (I will add it to the copy of A MONSTER AT THE END OF THIS BOOK that I always include.) It works as a child’s book or a fun gift for book-obsessed adults, so much fun here, and some entries I had to look up (well, one. I had no clue what “Oblomov” was….and now I’ve forgotten.) Want to start your kid on the road to a 5 on his/her/their AP English exam? You need this!
This was a book with fun colors and pictures!!! Very bright and perfect for a young child. I have a 3 year old and a 1 year old and they would enjoy the pictures. I do think perhaps many of the words were too much for children to understand. Honestly, I didn’t know what several of these words were!
This little board book is definitely more for the parents than the babies!! My kids who are quite a bit older now used to have the more traditional version of this book: 100 first words for little learners. And by the time they were in preschool they basically had it memorized. But this one would be a little harder to make that happen with words like foreshadowing, phonies, and deus ex machina! But Pemberley and puffed sleeves (with Anne Shirley wearing them) are also included, so I see the charm for bookworms!
This is a great little book for the very young reader, with its bright pictures and simple words. But it was also a lot of fun for me, as I figured out what all the words referred to and enjoyed my happy memories of each one. The words are perfectly chosen for book lovers. Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this.
Okay this is cute. As a parent of a 2 year old who has my kiddo's favorite books memorized, I would be ecstatic to add this into our rotation. I'd love to answer questions about who Falkor is vs asking her to find 5 trees that we've found 500 times before. I see this book as an opportunity for adult readers to jazz up their reading time with young kids. I don't know some of the references in the book, but I bet my kid and I could learn about it together.
