With a title like I Got Abducted by Aliens and Now I’m Trapped in a Rom-Com, already put a lot of ideas in your head. As you might imagine, the story begins with our main character: Dory being abducted by aliens and she ends up being taken at the same time as a lion. Oh, did I mention the lion was trying to kill her as well?
Regardless, Dory and the lion who she names Toto quickly become companions in trying to get away from these aliens. The two can get away and drop on a faraway planet which isn’t ideal. From there, it ends up being an adventure with high stakes for both of them but Dory is the one who ends up feeling like she’s trapped in a rom-com.
Why is her life now a rom-com? Well, our dear Dory ends up being mated to not just one but two different aliens. Coupled with the fact that the planet has all different types of wildlife including dinosaurs, plants, and other things Dory has never encountered before, it’s truly mindboggling to try to imagine everything Dory is going through while trying to foster a connection with two aliens men.
At its core, this book is fun and full of so many outrageous moments that you won’t be able to stop yourself from laughing or gasping for pages on end. Ultimately, the only thing I had to ding this book for was its pacing. The beginning half of the book felt like it went by a little too slowly until we met our love interests and from there, it truly felt like the adventure began.
While that pacing works for some, it did take me a little longer to get into this story for that reason. Even so, I can’t say much as Kimberly Lemming did have to set up an entirely new world and set of characters. Ultimately, I Got Abducted by Aliens and Now I’m Trapped in a Rom-Com is every bit as fun as the title makes it sound so if you’re in the mood for an alien romance, this one is the ultimate post Valentine’s Day read.

This book has a fantastic title. It grabbed me from the beginning. I had high hopes of this being a hilarious read. The author really made it a fast past story. For me personally it is a bit to fast as I didn't really care for the characters. The explicit scenes also arrived quickly, 30% of the way in felt a little soon for me. However it isn't totally unrealistic because of the events that happen in the story. A breeding planet that has its very own alien scientist who is observing and trying to make things happen. I know that this book will be enjoyable for some so I will recommend it to the right person, it just didn't hit for me personally. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

What a wild trip! Generally speaking, lately I have been avoiding het romances and why choose, but I trust Kimberly Lemming to show me a good time and she absolutely did with this ridiculously fun and funny book. Can't remember the last time I laughed so much (either Scalzi's Starter Villain or maybe Charlotte Stein's My Big Fat Fake Marriage? oh maybe Olivia Dade's At First Spite).
My demisexual self wasn't 100% sold on the romance of it (the joy of it, yes, in love so fast? I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯) but since it doesn't even seem like the focus a big chunk of the time, that didn't bother me. Despite all the world-building and plot, Lemming still makes time to insert (heh) really explicit sex scenes in this book. You've been "warned."

So I adore Kimberly Lemming, but this was not it for me. Her other books feel plotted out where this one feels like one random crazy thing after another. There are good parts to it. I would have really liked to see more character development between the different love interests as their relationship developed. They say they all fall in love but it just really feels like a sex fueled relationship. There isn't anything wrong with a sexual relationship but as a group deciding to be long term partners I would have liked to see more development and depth to their feelings.
I also don't mind a quirky story but I would like for the elements to flow together rather than the stream of consciousness chain of events. It's almost like Lemming just wrote whatever popped into her head. I just expected more from her since she is already an established author. This had a lot of potential if it had just been hammered out to flow more naturally I would have enjoyed it so much more. 3/5 stars. Still entertaining, but could have been a stronger storyline.

I adore the world Kimberly Lemming builds and this one was no different! This is the perfect mix of humor and romance and spice. I found myself laughing out loud and swooning ("you make the mundane precious" like omg????). Kimberly Lemming continues to be an auto-buy author for me.

This had the same fun banter and world building of previous Kimberly Lemming titles but I really needed the POVs of our love interests. I think it made it hard to feel the connection between the characters and their chemistry.
The world and set up for this place is hilarious and has the same zing of her other titles. I liked her twist on an alien romance too.

Series Info/Source: This is the first book in the Cosmic Chaos series. I got this on eGalley from NetGalley for review.
Thoughts: This was a fun and light-hearted read with quite a bit of alien sex in it. This is ridiculous and goofy and completely unbelievable. However, it was still a fun quick read that was a nice break from more serious reads. It made me laugh out loud a few times, but I also rolled my eyes at how completely silly it was as well.
Dorothy is a wildlife biologist until she suddenly (unfortunately) gets mauled by a lion. It ends up okay because at that moment she is also abducted by aliens. She wakes up and scrambles to escape the spaceship she's on only to end up in an escape pod with the very lion that tried to kill her. But the lion can talk now, so it's all good I guess. She crashes on a strange planet only to be rescued by a sexy alien named Sol, who gets into it with another sexy alien named Lok. They are all developing strangely intense attractions to each other that might not be completely natural.
I struggled a bit with the whole premise that the three characters involved were forced to lust after each other. This does give the tone of the book a bit of a yucky feel for me; this was navigated decently but wasn't my favorite theme. Also the whole premise of a weird earth kind of substitute and a breeding program to save a species was just a bit too goofy to quite make sense to me.
All the above aside, some of this book is laugh out loud funny (if you can get past the goofiness). I did end up getting strangely attached to the characters. There was a lot of action and it was fast-paced. This was a quick read that was entertaining. It had some very risque and dirty sex scenes in it as well. I struggled a bit with these since they kind of were, but kind of weren't consensual. I also thought the sex scenes got strangely repetitive and was left wondering what was up with the whole male knot organ thing (this gave me flashbacks to Hazelwood's "Bride" book).
My Summary (3/5): Overall I didn't enjoy this quite as much as Lemming's Mead Mishaps series. I found the Mead Mishaps series to be a lot more funny, sweet, and cozy and enjoyed the fantasy setting more. This was just a bit too far over the goofy line for me, and some of the sex scenes gave me more of a "yuck" feel than a "great chemistry" feel. I did end up becoming strangely attached to the characters here, and I thought the world was crazy (maybe a bit too crazy). I am on the fence as to whether or not I will continue reading this series. I didn't hate this, I just didn't love it either. Mostly when I finished this I was like, "Well, that was a quick and weird read. Moving on." If you are a big Lemming fan, I would give this a try and see how you like it.

What a ridiculously funny skewering of academia and wildlife research! The plot was bonkers in the best way and never took itself too seriously. I loved all the main characters, especially Sol, the protective lawyer turned dinosaur hunter. The sex scenes had a tendency to come out of absolutely nowhere and were often outside with zero privacy. Both would usually bother me but a threesome in front of a tiny flying alien in glasses somehow fit with this book’s energy.

My favorite of Lemming's yet! I've read the previous rompy and fun books from Lemming and and really liked them, but I felt this was her best one so far! I think the humor really landed for me and I was thoroughly entertained. The romance was sweet and steamy, and I enjoyed everything happening there a lot; the only thing I wished was different was that the two men had more of a development of their relationship along with her relationship blossoming with each of them.

First alien romance in the books, and first MMF novel in the books! Went into this really excited to read, but then I was feeling pretty skeptical about the whole “breeding program” premise of it all. Never read a book like that before.😅 I think the author does a really good job of letting us lean into the weird & she’s unapologetic for it which I love!
The plot was wild and fast paced, which was fun. Pink T-Rexes, talking animals, intense weather, and grumpy aliens all around. I had a hard time following the main storyline at times because so many random things were happening. In isolation, the random things were funny — but as a whole picture I had a hard time figuring out what they were ultimately trying to do, and if her partners were good people or not. The transition from Dory’s initial feelings of wanting to get back to earth & where she ended up transitioned really quickly and I’m not sure that I got the closure that I wanted.
The spice was definitely spicy! I’d say 4 chili peppers out of 5.
Entertaining and fun! if this book has interested you based on the summary, I think you’ll like it. Reading out of your comfort zone is a good thing 😊 love seeing women of color being the main character! Definitely an escapist storyline.
Thank you NetGalley & Berkley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Okay, hear me out. Lol
While this was ridiculous and hilarious, it was also SUPER entertaining. I loved Dory. She is such a badass FMC! She was so hilarious, sarcastic, and messy. She made me relate to her in so many different moments (which is wild, if you know the plot of this). But I loved her so much for just being raw and herself throughout. Toto was amazing. Like, he made me laugh SO hard. He even made me tear up towards the end. I loved him with all of my being, and I'm SO sad that lions don't actually talk IRL now. Sol was hot, affectionate, and HE LISTENED TO THE LITTLE THINGS YALL! (Hello? Perfect book boyfriend.) I also loved Lok. He was the "touch her and die" vibes guy, and I was 100% here for it. The Intern truly gave me comedy relief so so many times seeing how they set up the new world and such based on humans. I was laughing so hard. But to top it off, you'd think this was just a wild, ridiculous book... no! It had an amazing plot. I was on the edge of my seat during several of the twists, wondering how it was going to play out and if they would survive it. Thoroughly enjoyed this one!! 4 stars EASILY!
I received this ARC from NetGalley and Berkley to read/review. All of the statements above are my true opinions after fully reading this book.

Take a why choose novel and throw in elements from Jurassic Park and head nods to The Wizard of Oz and you have this book. It is hilarious and such a fun, silly read. A perfect blend of rom-com and Sci-Fi all wrapped up together.

Kimberly Lemming delivers a hilarious, steamy, and utterly unique rom-com with I Got Abducted by Aliens and Now I’m Trapped in a Rom-Com. Imagine if Jurassic Park had a lovechild with a why-choose romance and a BDSM novel—yes, it’s as wild and entertaining as it sounds!
The story follows Dorothy “Dory,” a PhD student specializing in wildlife conservation. On the cusp of completing her degree, a research excursion takes a tragic turn, and Dory thinks she’s met her end. Instead, she wakes up on a planet teeming with gorgeous aliens, talking animals, and a wild mix of species from various time periods. For Dory, a scientist to her core, disbelief turns into fascination as she grapples with a world that forces her to question everything she thought she knew.
Lemming’s ability to blend humor, heart, and heat is masterful. I found myself laughing out loud repeatedly, especially at the antics of Dory’s talking lion best friend, Toto (yes, named after The Wizard of Oz). Toto’s dry wit and unwavering support add an extra layer of charm to the story.
As Dory adjusts to her new reality, she discovers unexpected connections—not with one, but two drop-dead gorgeous aliens. The romance is spicy and emotional, as Dory begins to understand that her previous life was a series of “must-dos” and to-do lists. On this alien planet, she gets a second chance to truly live for herself, exploring emotional, spiritual, and sexual freedom in ways she never imagined.
Lemming also excels at world-building. The alien planet, with its strange flora, fauna, and food, comes alive through Dory’s eyes. Her scientist’s curiosity adds depth to the story, making her journey of rediscovery both intellectually stimulating and laugh-out-loud funny.
In short, I Got Abducted by Aliens and Now I’m Trapped in a Rom-Com is an absolute joyride. It’s equal parts romantic comedy, sci-fi adventure, and self-discovery tale, with a touch of kink to spice things up. If you’re looking for a book that will make you laugh, swoon, and cheer for a heroine who learns to embrace her wild side, this one’s for you.

If you ever find yourself curled up on the couch with a heated blanket, a skincare mask, a glass of wine, and a need to laugh out loud at something fun and ridiculous – then pick up this book and have yourself the perfect evening.
This book was fun and silly in the most unique way. I can honestly say I've never read anything quite like it, and it's the perfect antidote if you've been having a rough week and just need to laugh and read some spicy alien romance.

This book was essentially an Ice Planet Barbarians, Jurassic World, and The Wiz love child which... interesting, lmao. I went in expecting laughs because, hey, it’s Kimberly Lemming, and she did not disappoint.
Dorothy “Dory” Valentine is finishing her PhD when she’s attacked by a lion and then abducted by aliens. While escaping, she crash-lands on a dinosaur-filled planet, where she teams up with her new lion buddy (Toto), a mysterious and sexy alien (Sol), and his equally hot maybe-war-criminal friend (Lok). Cue prehistoric creature battles, budding romance, and a lot of laughs as Dory starts questioning if Earth is even worth going back to.
The laughs delivered, but the world-building… it went way over my head at times, and I definitely skimmed a lot of it. Still, the sheer chaos and fun of it all made up for the confusion.
If you’re into hilarious alien rom-com adventures with steamy vibes, pink dinosaurs and tamagotchi’s, give this one a shot. Just don’t expect to absorb all the lore— honestly its worth reading for the laughs alone!

Thank you Berkley and NetGalley for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts.
I don't think there is anybody doing it like Kimberly Lemming because WTF did I just read (/positive)!?!? I don't think I've laughed harder than when Dory asked why the owlish aliens didn't put a Target on the dinosaur planet. I Got Abducted by Aliens and Now I'm Trapped in a Rom-Com takes everything you've come to expect from alien romances and turns it so far on its head that you'll be dizzy from how iconic it was. Did I mention there's a pink t-rex and a talking lion? Well, there is.
I was into it from the first page, but when she had her two fated mates throwing down for her there was no way I was reading anything else. The chemistry between Dory, Sol, and Lok is off the charts, and it's not just because they got shot with a super horny serum. I was sweating with how hot this was, like for real? I can't wait for what comes next in the series and from Kimberly Lemming.
Read this if you have ever asked yourself what if both aliens and dinosaurs existed on one planet and I was trapped there, alien romance, fated mates, creature comforts, and more hijinks than you've ever read before.
Bonus epilogue of Lok getting d*cked down🥺👉🏽👈🏽

"Why do all of these houses only have one bed?"
"Our research show that the 'only one bed' method is a tried-and-true way to get humans to mate!"
Synopsis: Dory, a PhD student studying meerkats in the Kalahari Desert, is thrust into chaos when moments before her death, she and a lion are abducted by owl-like aliens. Escaping with her newfound lion ally, Toto, they crash on a strange planet where modern and prehistoric wildlife coexist—and where alluring aliens complicate survival and Dory's plans to find a way home.

While the Mead Mishaps series has been on my tbr for a while now, this was my first foray into this author's works... and at this point, I don't see myself reaching for more. Something about the overall writing style doesn't quite work for me. The strongest written parts (to me) were actually the smut scenes... then everything in between felt like filler where the author was constantly trying to one-up the absurdity. And I am a big fan of alien romances!!! I read them all the time!!!
Aside from the smut, the other highlights for me were the fun jokes and commentary on Dory getting her PhD and being a wildlife biologist. As a PhD student in biology I strongly related to Dory's experiences, and the way she viewed all the new creatures she encountered under the lens of "how is this evolutionarily possible", which is one of my favourite games to play. However, I did find it disheartening that even aliens have to deal with the issues of lack of research funding... life is so unfair.
Anyways, my guess is that you enjoyed the style of her other books you'll likely still enjoy this one, as I presume the overall vibes are similar to the Mead Mishaps series. Alternatively, if you are just looking for a quick, absolutely insane ride that has you thinking "how tf did I get here", this would probably fit the bill.
"What if I wanted to get you started on the ground sloth?"
"I was so hoping you'd say that. I have a lot of feelings about this."

3.75 stars...first off thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the eARC of this book...this was not my usual genre but I enjoyed the storyline and plot enough. It was a spicy rom com featuring aliens, talking lions and bird/alien creatures, a throuple oh and a 1 armed t-rex. It was quirky, NSFW at all, had some fight scenes, spicy scenes, lots of laughs, and some oh-sh*t moments. I would recommend if you like some aliens/other worldliness with your spice. I will probably read the next one when it comes out

My first five star read of 2025. This is delightful bonkers romp that also manages to be very steamy. I mean, we have owl-like kidnappers, a talking lion, and a pink T-Rex. In the midst of an abduction and crash landing in a Jurassic like world, Dory ends up falling for not one but two hot aliens. And wow, are the scenes with the three of them steamy! Run, don’t walk to get this book when it is released!

3.5 Very funny, but didn't land as well as the author's other titles.
Packed full of adventure, steamy scenes, and dinosaurs. Yay dinosaurs.
