Who doesn't love a modern day Romeo and Juliet!
When Maeve finds out her sperm donor has died and he has left her an inheritance, Maeve has no chocie but to go to Ireland to find out what it is. It's a pub on an island.. And it makes it business by its rivaly with another pub owned by Briggs.
As Maeve and Briggs build up more and more pranks, the closer they find themselves getting, even when they are supposed to be mortal enemies...
I loved this book. I laughed, I cried and I needed this book more than I realized. It's a cute and witty enemies to lovers with adorable irish accents. If that doesn't convince you, nothing will and I loved this retelling of Romeo and Juliet and no one dies yayyy.

But the story was so compelling and such a fun one to listen to especially with all the shenanigans that went on! Briggs and Maeve were 😍😍😍😍😍 urgh the chemistry from that first night was amazing! And i must say a few tears were shed too….
I was also really hoping that Owen was going to end up being a misunderstood side character but nope! He’s through and through a D- bag 😂

Entertaining and engaging. A recommended purchase for collections where contemporary romance is popular.
Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this audio!
I really enjoyed this book. Such a cute quick and easy read. I loved the storyline and the characters. Great writing style. Perfect summer read.
This was so cute! I loved the setting of an island and the dueling pubs. The characters are quirky and fun. I enjoyed the Ireland aspect but found that the Chicago aspect was almost unnecessary except to mention it; there was no need to flesh the whole thing out as it didn’t really add much to the story. Otherwise, this was a sweet romance with picturesque descriptions of the island.
To be fully honest, the backstory with Maeve discovering her roots and trying to relate to the father that she never had the opportunity to know was much more heartfelt and fulfilling than the love story between she and Briggs. While I enjoyed reading Last Call for Love, I felt that the relationship with Briggs felt almost mechanical, like checking off boxes on a checklist. Their feud had so much potential, but fell to the wayside with all of the other elements that were brought in to play. I think ultimately, there was way too many plotlines for me to truly love this book, between her ex boyfriend committing fraud and putting her in debt, a shady lawyer handling her deceased fathers estate, trying to follow her fathers list of wishes in order to sell the bar he left to her, learning to run the bar and making friends in Ireland, worrying about disappointing her parents and lying about being in a different country, learning about her Irish roots, Briggs having a heart condition that he kept from her, then falling for Briggs despite a centuries long feud between their families, it was just too much. I would have loved a deeper connection between Maeve and Briggs. I honestly would have preferred Maeve to come to Ireland at the suggestion of her mother to see what her father had left for her, even if she intended to sell it. Sneaking to Ireland to sell her inheritance to pay off debts without telling her mom made zero sense to me. If she respected her parents enough to refuse to acknowledge Liam as her father because of everything that her stepfather had done in raising her, sneaking out of the country without a phone call was incredibly inconsiderate. Anything could have happened to her and her parents would not even be aware. I think with a few alterations, I would have really loved this one, but unfortunately found it to be just okay.
Another moving, heartfelt, dual POV new adult romance from a fav author! This was great on audio narrated by Kevin Marron and Lauren Ezzo and sees American Maeve discovering she's inherited a pub from the Irish birth father she never met.
Deep in debt, native Chicagoan Maeve sees the inheritance as a way to make a quick buck but upon arriving on the small island she realizes her father has left a list of tasks she must complete before she can sell the pub.
Maeve also finds herself caught up in an ages old feud with rival pub owner, Briggs Murphy, who himself is grappling with a recent diagnosis of HCM (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy). Unable to resist their instant attraction, the two spend the summer feuding and falling in love only to struggle with whether they can make a life together work long term.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy in exchange for my honest review. This book is perfect for fans of authors like Emma Lord or Lynn Painter and does contain some open door scenes so would be better for older YA readers.
CW: chronic illness, OCD, panic attacks
I'm thinking this one wasn't for me. I had high hopes because the concept seemed like a cute idea! A woman down on her luck stumbles into inheriting a pub on an Irish island with a hot neighbouring pub owner who you're in a fake feud with? How Shakespearean.
The writing didn't really capture my attention. I was bored right from chapter one regardless of being interested in the storyline. I also don't love third person to begin with and find it particularly distracting in audiobooks, it doesn't allow for me to get immersed within the character the same way.
Additionally, the narrator's accent? Not good. There were times where it sounded Jamaican rather than Irish? Either way, I found the narration - particularly the male narrator incredibly distracting.
this was such a fun, lovely, special story! this is a unique plot with some favorite tropes, and I absolutely loved all the characters here. the professional rivalry can’t tame the intense spark and passion between Maeve and Briggs. I love there instant connection, and dedication to being friends despite the fun local rivalry between their pubs. both of them have known trauma and deserve their happily ever after with one another, I loved seeing them get it. I also especially loved reading this story as an audiobook because of the fun Irish accents bringing it to life!
thank you for the alc :)
Whenever I finish a book I and the audiobook is released after, I am beyond curious to know if the audio will satisfy my reading. I am super excited to say these narrators exceeded my expectations. Briggs’ narrator was perfect! I loved the story even more once narrated.
I loved this book. It was so sweet and fast paced and everything I didn’t know I wanted. It reminded me of PS. I Love You just a tiny bit. Mostly the Ireland and husband part, but the similarities stop there.
I loved the competition and banter between the bars and I loved how Maeve quickly settled in to take care of business while developing such a fun relationship with Briggs. It felt effortless and comfortable.
An emotional read in places, but I really think this one will do well once it hits the shelves. It’s such a timeless enemies to lovers romance read.
Thanks so much NetGalley and Brilliance Publishing for the ALC.

Read As An Arc
🍻 Insta-Love
🍻 Enemies to Lovers
🍻 All The Feels
🍻 Found Family
🍻 Small Town Romance
🍻 Ireland
🍻 Forbidden Love Aspect
🍻 Romeo & Juliet twist
Let's start with the cover! It's so cute! One of the aspects that drew me into this read. The description sounded great as well, so you know I just had to get the arc for this. I also had the audio for this as well, which was good too, there's not much there that can be fixed or changed - I'm also not picky with audio so this review will be on the text itself.
Briggs & Maeve. Their families have this feud going on as rivals with their pubs in Ireland which of course is expected to be carried and passed down within generations (this is the Romeo and Juliet aspect). Here is the twist of R&J -- they have a great feud going on for themselves before they fall from enemies to lovers. Once they get their relationship going to me, it seemed more physical than emotional. Don't get me wrong I'm here for the spice, but I also want to go in depth with all their feels for each other, and I'm they have it, I just don't want to have to read between the lines for it. I need it written down, in stone, which would help show off their personality and character more, even for each other.
The R&J aspect of a forbidden love they do have that going on as well -- I'm a fan of forbidden love, another thing that drew me into this read -- but this was a bit fractured. Not broken where there's no coming back from it, but a fracture because of the insta-love effect. I am not a HUGE fan of insta-love because I don't think enemies turn to lovers with a blink of an eye, so if that part was omitted and we were given more enemies before the lovers, this would have been 4 ⭐️ easily.
So the insta-love, Briggs starts to like Maeve pretty quickly, which got the relationship moving pretty fast as well. If you are a fan and love the insta-love trope, then you will LOVE this! For me, again, just not a big fan, but it was still good!
The setting! I loved the fact that this was set in small town Ireland! It is one of the places I want to travel to, and I wanted the setting to bring me there, immerse me more in the story! The fact that the plot was two feuding pubs was great! I never read such a storyline so I loved that part too of it! This part of the story was more exciting and interesting to read rather than the aspects of Chicago. I am not sure if it was because I am not attached to it, but it just felt a bit boring. Maybe more depth was needed in the setting, or the characters in Chicago, whatever it may be, I just found myself kinda speeding through these parts waiting to get it over with and onto the next.
The writing style needs a bit of an adjustment towards the end of the book. When I first started to read it, there was excitement and I was getting into it, the writing started off string in my opinion, but then it started to lack, as if the story just needed to be completed, or lack of enthusiasm in the writing process and characters. More details are needed and a variation of sentences so nothing feels repeated, which some parts did feel that way.
Overall, the romance was romancing, and the storyline was good! I wish I was able to connect or resonate with the characters a bit more. It was a good story, and again this is just the arc! If anything of this review interests you, and there are aspects that you like, GIVE IT A READ!
You have nothing to lose, but knowledge and entertainment to gain!
