Oromay is a unique work of late 20th century African literature for reasons both connected to and independent of its author’s life and death. It was a pleasure to read this English translation of Baalu Girma’s penultimate novel. It is my hope that this becomes vital reading for English-speaking students of 20th century African literature and/or politics. Full review/essay will be linked below when it’s published. Thank you for the ARC!

Interesting political book. This is not my general type of reading but I was curious about this book due to the situation around the disappearance of its author. The book describes really well the political situation of Ethiopia and especially of the Eritrean province and the government campaign to fight insurgency groups. It is well written and has captivated me throughout the book. Thank you Soho Press for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
