In BRIDGET VANDERPUFF AND THE BAKED ESCAPE, after years of waiting for a family of her own, Bridget Baxter is the only child remaining in the Orphanage for Errant Childs. Just when she thinks she’s doomed to a miserable existence alone with Ms. Acrid, who runs the orphanage, Mr. Vanderpuff arrives to take her home with him to his bakery. Ms. Acrid sends him away, but Bridget employs her creative and cunning skills to elude Ms. Acrid and escape into Mr. Vanderpuff’s car. Once at home, he introduces Bridget to the delights of pastries and try as he might to teach her to bake, every recipe she attempts comes up a complete failure. These epic failures end up proving handy when the evil Ms. Acrid tries to get revenge on Bridget.
Bridget is a fun and feisty heroine with spunk and spirit. She embraces every challenge she faces and looks for ways to solve even the trickiest of situations. This story of finding a family mixed with mystery and adventure is a sweet one that readers will savor.

This hilarious middle grade mystery by Martin Stewart is sure to tickle your funny bone! Bridget is an orphan who lives in the most horrible orphanage imaginable. In spite of the treachery, Bridget is good at everything-except finding a family. When all the other kids (including her best friend Tom) are sent to wonderful, loving homes, Bridget is locked in a dungeon to spend the rest of her life with the horrible matron, Ms. Acrid. Except that suddenly, a man turns up and he wants to adopt her. He is Ernest Vanderpuff, the village baker. His wife died some time ago, and he had a dream that she wanted him to go and adopt a girl with wild hair named Bridget. Mr. Vanderpuff has a beautiful bakery with clients who adore him and an elf that he can't see any more. Bridget, unfortunately, is a terrible baker and her baked goods range from incredibly annoying (screaming cream) to downright dangerous. All of which comes in handy, at the end, when Bridget must pull off another rescue. Kids are going to love this fast paced, funny story and the vivid descriptions will sending them running to the kitchen.
