I've always enjoyed mermaid books, especially when the mermaids aren't the classic Ariel, cutesy type of mermaids. So this book did not disappoint! Who doesn't want to have a scary hot mermaid as a girlfriend?! I would recommend people to check the trigger warnings especially if you aren't to great with body-horror.
This is the third book in the series and I have not read the first two books. I did not feel like that hindered my enjoyment or understanding of the book. I felt the author did a a great job of recapping and explaining things.
3.5⭐️
Thank you so much to City Owl Press, Netgalley, and the author for providing an advanced copy of this! All thoughts and opinions are still my own.
I've never been HUGE into mermaids, but since this is from an author I already love & enjoy, I decided to give this one a shot! And all in all, I had a really good time reading this.
This definitely leans into the darker side of sirens/mermaids and not the cutesy Ariel-style which I enjoyed. The heroine is not human, and definitely never acts like it. But it was still so easy to root for her as an MC.
While this is book 3 in a series, and does reference some characters and events from the first 2 books, you definitely do not need to read those in order to pick this up. Everything you need is recapped and covered and I never felt lost or like I was missing something.
There was tons of mutual pining and had one of those romances where you question how it could possibly work long term until the very end.
The little twist with the hero wasn't necessary my favorite, but didn't deter my enjoyment too much. And the ending, while maybe too easy, was delightfully satisfying. Who doesn't love seeing big corps getting taken down?
I thought I was going to enjoy this a lot more than I did but I was disappointed. It was very intriguing in the beginning and even in the middle but around 70% I started to get bored. It was hard to gain my attention after that and I almost DNFed. I think the pacing was just slow for me. The romance is cute especially because they have attraction but first have to figure out how to navigate their differences.
I still recommend for people to try this book and hopefully they like it.
Thank you to the author, Victory Editing, and NetGalley for this e-ARC.
I can’t get over what a great combination of scary and sexy this was. Niccoli fully embraces her eco horror and monster romance brand.
I loved Lorelei in the previous two books, but it was so good to see Nireed go full siren and Reed is just fully on board hoping for a scary girlfriend
I enjoyed this book!
Finished it in a day. The relationship building and the story line was great. I loved the shake up for Reid character as well and the connection for all of the relationships between the characters was very well done.
Ensnaring the Siren by Desirée M. Niccoli
⭐️⭐️⭐️& a half stars!
I initially found it challenging to fully engage with the story in this book, but as I became more absorbed, I appreciated the storytelling and world-building. The relationship between Reid and Nireed, while sweet, didn’t resonate with me. I liked that they were open and understanding about their significant differences. I’m glad there was a happily ever after, and the revelations about Reid’s life added depth to the character and connected everyone in a great way. This was my first time reading a book by Desirée, and I enjoyed her writing style. I felt like I was learning a lot about mermaids while also being entertained by the story.
Thank you Desirée, City Owl Press and Netgalley for this book!
A sea-salty, sexy adventure in which a Coast Guard rescue swimmer in Maine encounters a vengeful mermaid protecting her pod. The world building is truly great, the characters are engaging, and the plot (forgive me) moves swimmingly.
That said, do take the content warning about body-horror seriously. It's pretty gnarly.
This was such an interesting and fast paced novel. I love anything to do with mermaids and I thought it was such a unique concept to combine these forces and create this captivating novel.
The merfolk premise was new to me, and I enjoyed how the author explored that with an angle of corporate greed and environmental destruction. Reid was such a lovely character, and the couple had great chemistry from the start. The spice level was medium, although I’m not sure how I feel about the mermaid-form scenes. Overall a well written book with plenty of substance to carry the romantic storyline along.
