In a bid to clean up my NetGalley I checked out this book that debuted waay back in 2014 and I was pleasantly surprised by it! I thought it was a sweet contemporary novel about first love, heartache, and closure. I enjoyed the marathon running aspect of it, something I've never read before. I also appreciated that the story was less about the daily life of high school, and in fact very little of the story took place in school, instead it was outside, and then college.

So yes, this is an upper YA novel/new adult book, which I was not expecting lol. There was definitely a little bit of pearl clutching at work as I gave a co-worker a play by play of what was happening down by the river! lol And even the sexual aspects of the book felt real and not fictionalized.

All in all, I really enjoyed this book as a 38 year old who is enjoying YA less and less. In fact, I might have to pick up the other books by Miranda Kenneally I have not read yet.

And now, 7 years later, thanks NetGalley and Sourcebooks for the arc yall sent me that I am just now reading! But it totally holds up! :D

I enjoyed reading this book very much. Miranda Kenneally knows how to write characters well and Annie was an excellent character. I could feel her emotions extremely well and I felt for her a lot.
