As always another fantastic instalment in the DI Lottie Parker series and book 14.
I was hooked from the first pages and gripped the whole way through.
Young women are going missing and turning up dead, some being kept for some weird unknown reason. I liked the introduction of each potential girl to be taken in the plot, the way it was told that it could have been either one of them. The knock at the door revealing the answer.
Lots of twists and turns and I enjoyed what felt like little extras in the plot, the little boy and his unexpected involvement and what would turn out to be a few connections.
I honestly never had a clue who the killer was, that was a shocker lol but a clever one.
Nice to see Lottie and Boyd actually happy(ish) for once too.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC in return for an honest
I have wanted to start this series for the longest time! I even own the first book. However this absolutely worked as a standalone.
This was so good. A really well plotted police procedural that’s not trying to drown the reader in technical details; established characters that are enjoyable to spend time with and a whole host of new ones; with the added twist of a killer or killers hiding amongst them! I was so close to working this out but the author played it well and had me doubting myself right up until the final reveal.
I look forward to reading the rest of the Lottie Parker series. Thanks so much to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC.
Her Last Walk Home is the 14th book in the Lottie Parker series and again it’s another unputdownable read. I was very lucky to have the chance to listen to this via audio as well. This was fantastic for me as it meant I could listen to the audio when I was out and about and wasn’t able to read my actual kindle. The narrator Michelle Moran was excellent and made the audio fantastic to listen to. It was wonderful to be back with Lottie and her team as they deal with the atrocities and try to find the perpetrator. This was a gripping and page turning read that had me hooked right from the prologue. I don’t think I’ll ever have enough of this series as it just keeps on getting better and better.
Well, here we are at book 14 in this series that, along with the main character, I had a shaky start with but have grown to love. You do have to bear in mind that, along with the main cases being investigated, this series is a bit heavy with the MC's personal life and to get the very best from that, and indeed to understand it as it is all a bit convoluted, you really do need to start from the beginning and read in order.
So... we start with the body of a young woman, found near a complex containing eateries and a cinema. It doesn't take long to make an identification and it turns out that the victim was Laura, a young woman who was just on a night out, whose mother, when informed, was devastated, especially as she left behind a young child. But the investigation stalls there and Lottie and her team have their work cut out for them. And then another young woman disappears upping the stakes. And if that wasn't enough, Lottie and Boyd make their own gruesome discovery when viewing a new build house... But is this latest victim connected to the women, or do they have two killers at large?
Well... hold on to your hats with this one... it's all a bit convoluted and interconnected and peppered throughout with Lottie, Boyd, and their respective families' personal stuff. It is very busy. But, if you are familiar with Lottie, and have your wits about you, and read in decent chunks, you'll be OK!
I said at the start of my review that I had a shaky start with the series and MC, I looked up my review for book one and here's what I said...
"Not sure I really like her at the moment to be honest, but I have a suspicion that she will grow on me as she develops through the series."
And I really wasn't wrong, although she does still annoy me at times!
And the case in question in this book is a bit of a doozy! It had me running around, chasing my tail all the way through. I gave up trying to second guess about half way through, it befuddled me so much. It was almost a blessing when I returned to Lottie and Boyd's house squabbles for a bit of respite and time to regroup and rethink the case!
It did all get a bit on the messy side as we headed towards the final denouement and I did have to right slow down to get everything straight as it was slowly all revealed, but that's not necessarily a bad thing! And it did all come together eventually, albeit it rather convoluted!
All in all, a cracking addition to an already well established and well loved series, roll on next time. My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.
It is always exciting to get my hands on the latest Lottie Parker book. I love Lottie, her team, and her family. Lottie is in a way a typical detective with multiple problems in her personal life, but her job complicates things even more with the very serious and complex cases she gets on her table.
This plot is even more complex than usual, and there are several point of views, which kept me alert, because I really wanted to find out how everything and everyone are connected. It was intriguing to read about how Patricia Gibney is setting it all up, building up the suspense, and how it all world so well together.
There is an escort agency, a rehab centre, and a construction business, and somehow there is a link between these three. It is a good thing Ragmullin doesn't exist. I think the place would only attract drime addicts, because I have a feeling half of the population is dodgy as hell.
Even though in crime books like these things are far more complicated and twisted than we hope things to be in real life, the realistic life of Lottie and all the struggles in her life makes this a very enjoyable, relatable, and likeable book and series over all.
I like reading about character growth and this is something that can clearly be seen when it comes to the main and side characters in the series. It's a special skill to write about realistic people in an unrealistic environment and still appeal to readers. At some point I've realised these characters have become a part of my imaginative fictional family (that only exists in my head). Talk about what a messy place that is, because there are many detectives with issues running around my head :) Lottie has definitely earned her place there!
I am hoping to see many more books in this series, because I am sure Ragmullin and Lottie have a lot more to give us readers!
Lottie and her team return for book 14 of my favorite detective series. Two murder victims, and one missing woman, who all seem to be linked. The race is on to solve the case, and find the missing woman alive.
I absolutely adore Lottie, and the team. Patricia Gibney has created such wonderful characters. Once again I thoroughly enjoyed the book. However, I did find the ending a little bit hard to understand. I had to read over the last few chapters a few times to try and get it straight in my head. This has never happened me before with one of these books. The book is still wonderful, and well worth reading, especially if you are a fan of the series. I would have given it 5 stars if the outcome had been easier to understand. I've never had a negative thing to say about this series, and I will still be eagerly awaiting the next installment.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing me with a digital ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I am absolutely addicted to these books and I think I might just be Patricia Gibney’s biggest fan! I rave about these books to everyone and every time I finish one I think to myself “I hope she never stops writing these”
Lottie and her team are investigating a string of murders involving young women in their twenties who are all a member of an escort agency.
As always we get insight into the killers point of view too.
Like all the other Lottie Parker books I had no idea where this one was heading and I couldn’t turn the page fast enough to find out who was behind these latest murders in Ragmullin. Another absolute page turner from the queen of Irish crime writing.
Book 14 of the D.I. Lottie Parker series set in Ragmullin in the Midlands of Ireland and this latest police procedural murder/thriller maintains the pace of the previous books. It is Valentine’s night and a teenage girl accepts a lift home rather than walk in the rain. Unfortunately for her it is the last lift she will ever have. This is quite a complex story, written from multiple POV’s, but as always is well written and well constructed.
Briefly, a year later another girl goes missing and a body is found dumped behind the local cinema. Lottie and her team become involved. With both herself and her team struggling to make any real progress their only lead is a possible connection between an escort agency, a rehabilitation facility and a new building estate. When another body turns up and another girl disappears the pressure ramps up on Lottie in a big way and its not helped by her own chaotic home life.
Lottie is a real bad ass with attitude but great to have her on your side! There are some dark and distressing subjects raised in this story but they are not gratuitous and are handled sensitively. A fast paced and intense read and with a myriad of suspects this will keep you on tenterhooks right to the end. A very good read.
Another great crime thriller from Patricia Gibney.
Lottie is called when a young woman’s body is found and it’s clear she’s been brutally murdered.
Boyd has just returned to work and is keen to buy a house with Lottie but when he persuades her to view a new build, neither of them are prepared to find another dead body.
When another young woman is reported missing, Lottie and the team know they need to find her quickly.
We get an insight into the killer’s life but it’s hard to work out why they’re targeting their victims.
This is a clever crime thriller and it certainly keeps you guessing and I had no idea who the killer was.
Thanks to Bookouture for the opportunity to read this book.
I absolutely loved Her Last Walk Home. It's always a joy to go back to these characters. Patricia has written another absolutely gripping book from start to finish. Loved the multiple pov. This really made the story flow and kept you guessing. I was completely shocked by the reveal! As usual, I adored the personal side of Lottie's chaotic life. I thought there was just the right balance between Lottie's personal storyline and the plot itself. Can't wait for book 15! Would highly recommend!
Huge thank you for the opportunity to read and review!
I have only listened to book one so far and the characters and the writting have evolved and got better since the 1st story and although I plan to listen to the other books I did not feel I had missed much by listening to this instalment and I am glad Lottie has found love again.
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me listen to and read this book, one of my favourite series
oh man listening to this series and realising that they irish accents certainly threw me after all it wasnt how i imagined them talking.... but once i got over the shock it was great to catch up with lottie and her crew...
when the first womans body is found lottie and her team start their investigations and the identification comes quickly, its whilst telling her mother about her daughters death that they find out she was on a date and its all hands on deck to identify him
but its not far into the investigation that another girl goes missing and another body turns up.... could there be a serial killer in town...
lottie and her team have their hands full trying to find the clues to the identity of the killer
wow just wow another thrilling book in this series that keeps you reading right to the end...
Her Last Walk Home is a fast-paced thriller with a very intriguing plot. The past and present situation was very intense.
So many characters!
So many twists and turns!
Main character, Lottie, is working hard to keep a balance between her work life and her home life. To be honest, her home life situation could use some major revamping for sure!
Can Lottie and her partner, Boyd, unravel the mysterious murders as well as everything going on that seem to be connected to the murders?
Will the killer strike again before Lottie and Boyd can stop him/her?
This is a series best read starting from the first book in the series. There is so much backstory you need/should know about.
Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
A complex clever intriguing plot, told from multiple points of view.
There's lots going on here, the murders are piling up and the list of possible culprits gets more confused the more you read. You'll be baffled and share the team's sense of despair as each prospective villain is discarded and then you'll be totally surprised when the guilty party is unveiled.
Bubbling along behind this brilliant main plot is the subplot which continues to delight in its own quiet way. The fatalistic car crash that is the main character's private lives, the simmering tensions between some of the team and the crossroads that Lottie’s children and indeed herself and Boyd find themselves in.
Its been great to catch up with them all and I can't wait to do it again soon.
It is hard to believe that poor old Lottie is already on to her fourteenth case! With the tortured life she leads it is a wonder she is still able to do her job! Her mum has dementia, her kids are a constant source of worry and she doesn't know where she stands with partner and colleague Mark. All that and she has to find out who is kidnapping and killing young women in Ragmullin. Great stuff!
I love love love this series! Book #14 in the Detective Lottie Parker and it doesn’t disappoint. It’s as good as, if not even better than the last 13 books.
An intense addictive crime and mystery thriller I couldn’t put it down. Can also be read as a standalone.
I was totally hooked from the first page. It’s fast paced and the action just keeps on coming. And with twists and turns and so many suspects it keeps you guessing till the end. Such a page turner. You just speed through the chapters.
I enjoyed the intriguing storyline and well written characters. Told in multiple POV’s which keeps the story flowing as the tension builds.
I love reading about Lottie, Boyd and their families relationships and home life, alongside them working the case to solve the murders of the young women. It makes the storyline feel more real.
I can’t wait for the next instalment. Definitely recommend this book and series. If you enjoy this genre you’ll love it. It’s full of heart racing suspense and packed with so much tension. Just brilliant.
With thanks to #NetGallery @bookouture for an arc of #HerLastWalkHome in exchange for a honest review.
Book publishes 20 September 2024.
A young woman goes missing and a few days later a body is found, but it's not the missing woman. Lottie Parker and her team are called in to investigate the cases of missing and murdered women. Then a man's body is found and really throws a twist into the investigation with so many questions the biggest one being are they connected and if so how.
A very good police procedural that will keep you guessing. The books, although full of action tend to drag on to the final conclusion. Still a good read.
Love this series ! A deliciously intense and addicting thriller you won’t soon forget !! Brilliant work !! Thanks to Netgalley # , Bookouture Books # and Patricia Gibney # for the opportunity to read and review this amazing book !! Patricia is a master storyteller !

I really enjoyed the latest installment in the Lottie Parker's series, we get to explore in a bit of depth some issues she is facing with Boyd as well as murders of young women who could have been her own daughter. I also didn't guess who did it until the end and I thought it was a very satisfying book that kept building a lot of suspense while also concentrating a little bit more on the dynamics of Lottie and Boyd. Thank you NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book, I really enjoyed it!
Complex plotting makes this a compelling crime thriller.
This is the 14th installment in a long running series that should be read, from the beginning, in order. Because of the intense nature of all of the personal relationships and the changes the cohort has gone through over the years, the reader will want to be on the same page. I don’t feel this works as a standalone or a starting point.
That said, this is a complicated story with the usual characters in the Rugmullin police led by Inspector Lottie Parker. Her boyfriend and partner, Mark Boyd, along with their other colleagues face a diabolical villain. The narrative is told from multiple points of view with some time shifts that make it sometimes hard to keep it all straight. When the body of a young woman is found in a field by the local cinema, Lottie and her team begin an investigation that keeps them questioning suspects and families all over the area. There’s the usual personal drama between the teammates as well as more criminal activity. They examine the little evidence they have and attempt to find the truth even as another body is found and yet another woman goes missing. Things get quite twisty at the end.
This is one of the few series that I still follow and one of my favorites because of the characters. I listened to the audiobook while also following along in the e-book ARC, both provided by the publishers. The narrator did a great job of voicing the many different characters using different tones and varying accents to help relate their individual personalities. Listening while reading always enhances my enjoyment of the book.
