This is the third book in The Lost Night Files series (trilogy?). I’m sure it’s meant to be wrapped up as a trilogy, but with this author, I never say never lol.

So we have our third heroine Amelia, and if you’ve been following my reviews or if you’ve checked out the previous books, the short version is that 3 women were lured to a remote location and all 3 woke up after a fire and with their memories of the night missing. They then started a podcast to see if they could figure out what had happened to them. All 3 women woke up with an enhanced psychic talent of some kind as well. This third book is about Amelia.

Amelia feels like she’s being stalked. Things in her apartment are moved. Nothing has been stolen, the person is just basically messing with her and letting her know that they can get in and out of her place whenever they want. She goes to Gideon Sweetwater (there’s a fun little cross-over for us!) and wants to hire him. But he doesn’t believe her…at first.

The two of them do band together, but one thing Gideon isn’t sharing is that psychic talents run in the Sweetwater family. He also finds out that his uncle was in charge of the initial research into finding test subjects who already had a talent, and then trying to enhance them medically. (not a spoiler, this happens early on!) But his uncle was never told that the research was continued without him…or who had it.

Gideon and Amelia realize things are bigger than they’d originally thought and things get intense pretty quick. One thing the characters have been finding out is that they were not the only victims. This culminates in the fact that many of the people experimented on quickly become unstable. And not all of them are good. When the villains can kill with a thought, it’s hard to make a stand.

But Gideon and Amelia make a good team, and I enjoyed their story. I hope there is more to come in the Lost Night Files because paranormal content doesn’t have to stop at the end of their story. They can hunt down more stories and more people, and I for one, hope there are more books in this series, even if our three heroines have the end to their story.

Jayne Krentz completes the Lost Night Files trilogy with Shattering Dawn. Amelia Rivers, a member of the Lost Nigh Files podcast, is tracking down what cost her and her mates amnesia on the night they ended in a broken down hotel and barely escaped with their lives. She hires Gideon Sweetwater, psychic detective, and they are forced to run to the old hotel, the scene of her amnesia, after someone tries to kidnap her. As they try to disrupt the organization's illegal experiments people start dying. Can they use their talents together and is there room for a relationship? Great science fiction near future read with romantic overtones.

Shattering Dawn is apparently the finale of the The Lost Night Files trilogy. This series ends with Amelia Rivers and Gideon Sweetwater as the main characters. Not too long ago, Pallas Llewellyn, Talia March, and Amelia Rivers were strangers, until their fateful stay at the Lucent Springs Hotel. They were lured to the Lucent Springs Hotel under the false premise of job opportunities related to its remodeling. That night changed their lives forever - they lost all memory of what transpired and emerged with paranormal abilities.

This shared experience led them to form the Lost Night Files podcast, through which they discovered others with similar stories: some gained enhanced abilities, while others were driven to madness. Now, close friends, the three women, along with Phoebe Hatch, Lukas Rand, and Ambrose Drake, co-host a podcast called the Lost Night Files. The Lost Night Files investigates cold cases and hopes to connect with others who may have had similar experiences—experiences that have somehow enhanced the psychic abilities already present in each woman.

Amelia wonders if she is going mad as her enhanced paranormal powers increase and are not under control. She has difficulty sleeping and has become terrified of the dark since she lost the night with her two friends at Lucent Springs. Amelia's particular gift allows her to perceive the night world in a landscape of colors and auras, which she captures through vintage photography equipment. When she becomes aware of a stalker, she uses her ability to photograph their aura before seeking help from private investigator Gideon Sweetwater.

Gideon, who has his own brand of psychic abilities, is a private investigator hired by Amelia to find the answers she needs and, in some ways, protect her from someone who apparently wants to kidnap her. There is a list of people who have participated in other psychological research, and it is Amelia and her friend's goal to find these people and thus find those responsible. Gideon comes from a powerful family, one of whom may have been involved in putting together the list that changed the lives of Amelia, Pallas, and Llewellyn forever.

Gideon suspects Amelia is either paranoid or an outright con artist, but he can’t resist their chemistry. He takes the case despite his skepticism. For her part, Amelia has second thoughts about the wisdom of employing the mysterious Mr. Sweetwater. She is wary of the powerful attraction between them and deeply uneasy about the nightmarish paintings on the walls of his home. She senses they were inspired by his own dreamscapes. Now the pair has no choice but to return to the haunting ruins of the old hotel where Amelia’s lost night occurred.

They are desperate to stop a killer and the people who are conducting illegal experiments with a dangerous drug that is designed to enhance psychic abilities. If they are to survive, they will have to trust each other and the passion that bonds them. The primary story is always the mystery to be solved, and in the case of The Lost Night Files it’s a doozy. Pallas, Talia and now Amelia have been pulling at the threads of that mystery from the very beginning. They know they’re closing in on the truth – and Amelia is certain that the truth is closing in on her as well.

So, apparently, if you have read other series by this author, she leaves you with various Easter eggs to uncover, things like The Foundation and the Bluestone Project. There's also information about the Sweetwater family if you want further research. The author reveals some interesting twists in this book by finally uncovering the lunatic behind what happened to these women and why they are destroying everything that this person has built by remaining alive and causing him trouble. This book wraps up the series and the unanswered threads from the prior books.

I liked this series more and more with each book and I’m sad that it was called a trilogy. This one got some answers but left a lot more questions that makes me hope that more books in this time and place are forthcoming. Amelia Rivers is sure that she has a stalker so she goes to a private investigator that she thinks must be more likely to understand the paranormal aspects to her case since he is on the list she and her friends were. It’s clear upon their first meeting she was wrong since he is skeptical about anything paranormal. The two of them begin to investigate and find much more than they were expecting including some answers about who kidnapped Amelia and her friends from the podcast. This book was fun even if the romance wasn’t as compelling as some (although I did love seeing another member of the Sweetwater family.

Shattering Dawn is the third book in the Lost Night Files trilogy and follows Amelia as she searches for answers about the night she lost to amnesia. She hires Gideon Sweetwater in this endeavor, as well as to determine who her stalker might be. With Gideon's detective skills and Amelia's ability to read auras, the two make a formidable team. When Amelia and Gideon step into a world of paranormal drugs, deadly hallucinations and murder, they must learn to trust each other and their paranormal abilities.
Jayne Ann Krentz is one of my go-to authors because her books are always entertaining. With well-developed characters and intriguing storyline,
Ms. Krentz delivers an un-put-down-able novel. In short: this author delivered another read worthy addition to her impressive paranormal bibliography.

Shattering Dawn is the final book in The Lost Night Files trilogy. I would recommend reading the prior books to get the entire story as the intertwining subplots over the entire trilogy are tied together in this book.

Amelia Rivers wonders if she is going mad as her paranormal powers increase since her lost night with her two friends at Lucent Springs. Believing that someone is stalking her, she hires Gideon Sweetwater. Gideon is skeptical until he stops a kidnapping attempt. They return to Lucent Springs to find out more about the night she cannot remember.

I enjoyed that Gideon was a Sweetwater and the link between many of the authors other series.

I highly recommend this entertaining and fast paced finale.

I received this advance review copy from NetGalley & the publisher for my honest review.

When searching for a PI because she feels she’s being stalked, Amelia Rivers was led to Gideon Sweetwater. These two were fated to find each other. Gideon quickly takes on the task of helping Amelia find out who her stalker may be. In their first few days together these two endure many obstacles that really force them to have to trust each other and get to know each other quickly. All though multiple possibilities of who the stalker may be present themselves, Amelia and Gideon get the answers they are looking for. This book is the perfect blend of mystery and thriller with a sprinkle of romance thrown in. You will not be disappointed with this story.

Veena’s review of Shattering Dawn (Lost Night Files, Book 3) by Jayne Ann Krentz
Romantic Suspense published by Berkley 07 Jan 25

A thrilling conclusion to the Lost Nights Trilogy. Amelia is paranoid, afraid of the dark, and now fears she’s being stalked. Gideon Sweetwater, the PI whom she finds has his own share of issues, together make for some interesting chemistry with dry dialogue in the best way.

Everything changed for Amelia and her friends during the lost night when they were kidnapped and left for dead. Now Amelia is being stalked, and, regardless of how skeptic Gideon is about her story, he agrees to take on her case. Soon he has proof Amelia is not imagining things, and so the two decide to go back to where it all began – the hotel room in Lucent Springs.

Suddenly things start to pop. With Gideon’s help, Amelia is able to navigate the night and use her talent while keeping her fears of the dark under control. As it turns out, there was an eyewitness as well. Soon Gideon and Amelia are starting to make some serious headway in putting the clues together.

Along the way, Amelia is able to return the favor to Gideon, and she helps him identify and nullify his own stalker. I enjoyed the suspense and the fun of following the crumbs and working to solve the mystery with Amelia and Gideon.

Grade: A

The third book in the Lost Night series. Amelia thinks she has a stalker so she hies Gideon Sweetwater to investigate. ARC from NetGalley.

The third leg of the Lost Night Files trilogy that caught fire with me from the opening paragraphs of the first book. I loved the spooky, mysterious locations, the mystery, the conspiracy and intrigue, psychic abilities that needed to be controlled, and, of course the romances of the previous two books and looked forward to more of the same and a big final from this last. Shattering Dawn met my expectations nicely and I enjoyed the little Easter Egg connections to previous series.

Shattering Dawn is the third book in a very connected series that must be read in order. A new couple and their specific situation is at the forefront, but the overall series arc progressing from the earlier books is a strong part.

Amelia Rivers is the third member of the Lost Night Files podcast team and the final member of the group who went out to the desert and the old hotel only to end up with a blank spot in her memory and a psychic power that is beyond anything she had before. Her gift is also an odd one since she has the ability to see auras and the psychic traces people leave, but only at night. And, as bad luck would have it, the Lost Night has left her with night phobia issues. However, when she gets the sense she is being stalked, she bucks up and hires an investigator to help her.

Gideon Sweetwater (yes for old-time Jayne Castle fans, he’s one of those Sweetwaters) is none too certain about his new client, but he knows she’s not crazy, though she comes to him with a stunner of a story and problem. He’s been circumspect all his life and refuses to form relationships because of his own dark talent. But, he establishes quickly that Amelia Rivers is in acute danger and doesn’t have a run of the mill stalker. He never realized he had a connection with the women of the Lost Night podcast, but now he’s all in teaming up with Amelia to get the answers they need even while a strong enemy is equally determined the Lost Night people who are a threat get neutralized.

This read fast and I was glued to the story from start to finish. Loved the banter between Amelia and Gideon and how they bolstered each other up as they formed a working team and a smoldering romance building as they investigated.

Readers have been in the know since the end of the first book what the Lost Night team is up against in their enemy, but I enjoyed the surprise twists that came up in this one. I had no trouble figuring out one part of the twist, but wasn’t prepared for the rest so it was a thrill to behold there in the big climax.

Like with the earlier books, there is a lovely sense of the gothic and a layer of old-style noir that I loved for added atmosphere to the investigation and overall story. I’m disappointed that this was it for this part of the broad Jayne Ann Krentz psychic romantic suspense world. There are ties to the earlier Fogg Lake trilogy and one lose thread from both that and this trilogy that gives me hope Krentz isn’t finished with this overall world. Those who love a dab of psychic talent to their romantic suspense should definitely pick up this trilogy or, better yet, start back with the older connected series.

Shattering Dawn by Jayne Ann Krentz is a captivating blend of romance, suspense, and mystery that showcases the author’s talent for weaving gripping narratives. The story unfolds with compelling characters, a well-paced plot, and a richly atmospheric setting that draws readers in from the first page. Krentz masterfully balances intense emotional moments with heart-pounding action, creating a story that’s both thrilling and deeply satisfying. The romance is tender and authentic, complementing the intrigue without overshadowing it. Fans of romantic suspense will appreciate the twists and turns that keep them guessing until the end. A thoroughly engaging and enjoyable read!

Jayne Ann Krentz was one of the first romance authors I ever read and all these years later, she’s still one of my favorites. That is why I was so excited to read an arc of her upcoming book, Shattering Dawn, the final book in the Lost Nights Files trilogy.

This trilogy centers around a night that changed the lives of three women that none of them can remember. Each book follows one of the women, with this lost night an overarching mystery across the trilogy. Jayne Ann Krentz is an incredible world builder and a skilled storyteller, which is evident in her exceptional ability to weave in details from the first two books without unnecessary exposition.

It was a little disappointing that we didn’t get much interaction between Pallas, Talia, and Amelia until the end of book. I would have expected them to be helping Amelia as she dealt with being stalked and returning to the scene of their shared lost night, but instead she and Gideon were on their own for the most part.

I still thoroughly enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it to fans of romantic suspense and books with a touch of paranormal—all the main characters and some side characters in this trilogy have psychic abilities.

Shattering Dawn had me at page one and twisted me up shortly after. This is book 3 in the trilogy and I its my favorite. The first twist (of which there are several) had me going back and rereading, saying no way. Ameila is our 3rd pod castor with abilities and lost night. She's being stalked and reaches out to private investigator Gideon. The reason she reaches out to him is a mini surprise in itself. As Ameila and Gideon travel to the desert and California for answers we are right there with them. This book took me on a wild ride that tickled my fancy, was a mystery and had plenty of suspense. Thank you for the advanced copy. I freely volunteer my honest thoughts and opinions. #ShatteringDawn #TheLostNightFiles #JayneAnnKrentz #Berkley #NetGalley

The last installment of the Lost Night Files, wraps up the mystery of what happened on the night none of them can remember. Gideon Sweetwater, private investigator is hired by Amelia Rivers because she is being followed and to help unravel of the missing night. Gideon's paranormal talents are dangerous and he is reluctant to work with her. Accidentally, Amelia get a jolt of Gideon's talent but surprisingly, his talent doesn't react on Amelia in a negative way. Conversely, it helps her remember her lost memories. The ending of the book hints at a new direction for the Lost Night Files podcast. There group has expanded and hopefully we will see more of their adventures.

The Lost Night Files series has been centered on three friends, Amelia, Talia and Pallas, trying to find out what happened seven months earlier when they went to Lucent Springs Hotel, thinking they were being interviewed for a job and ended up waking up the next day with no memory of what happened. Each had minor psychic talents that were enhanced and strengthened after that “lost” night. Since then, they’ve been searching for answers, starting a Podcast to shine light on the event and get answers.

The story opens with Amelia being stalked by someone unknown. With the danger they’ve each faced amplified by their public investigations into that “lost night” Amelia feels it wise to hire a detective/bodyguard to get to the bottom of it. On the surface Gideon Sweetwater sounds skeptical, but he’s got his own talents he’s not eager to share. Then Ameila and Gideon discover an unexpected connection that puts them both in danger.

Shattering Dawn was an action-packed, page-turning mystery! A blend of romantic suspense with paranormal elements and my favorite installment to date! I really enjoyed all the twists and turns and all the answers we got here, wrapping up into a satisfying conclusion of the series!

SHATTERING DAWN (The Lost Night Files Book #3) by Jayne Ann Krentz is the final paranormal romantic suspense book in The Lost Night Files trilogy. In this story, the third member of the Lost Night Files podcast members meets her HEA match, and all the dangling plotlines of the trilogy are resolved. While this can be read as a standalone romance, I feel it is much more enjoyable reading the trilogy in order.

Amelia Rivers wonders if she is going mad as her enhanced paranormal powers increase and are not under control. She has difficulty sleeping and has become terrified of the dark since her lost night with her two friends at Lucent Springs. She believes she is being stalked, and it may be tied to her lost night. She hires Private Investigator Gideon Sweetwater. Amelia is not sure if Gideon is right for the job, and Gideon has his own reservations, but he is intrigued. While both need to learn to trust the other, they are also wary of the chemistry between them.

Gideon Sweetwater feels an attraction to Amelia, but is skeptical of her story, until he disrupts a kidnapping at her apartment building. Amelia takes Gideon back to Lucent Springs, outside of San Diego to look for more clues and information, but there are people who will stop at nothing to get their hands on Amelia. What they did not count on was Gideon and his Sweetwater heritage.

Amelia and Gideon are so much fun as the H/h in this book of the trilogy. Amelia does not let the Gideon get away with his alpha tendencies as they learn to trust each other and their paranormal talents. I also enjoyed that Gideon was a Sweetwater and how he was a link between many of the other “Jayneverse” series and trilogies. The romance plot is fast paced with danger at their heels and both their physical and paranormal chemistry is explosive. The story’s suspense plotline is palpable throughout with many twists and surprises. All the intertwining subplots over the entire trilogy are tied together in this book and come together in a satisfying conclusion.

I highly recommend this entertaining and fast paced finale to The Lost Night Files trilogy!

I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for a review.

I've read the other two in the series, and liked them well enough, even with the paranormal/psychic aspect to it (not usually books that I read, but since I read the third in a series that features that, maybe I do now?). It was fine. The action was well done and the characters were likeable. I've never been a fan of insta-love books, but this one wasn't overly annoying in that aspect.

The conclusion to Krentz's Lost Night Files trilogy is another high-intensity story brimming with danger, action, edge-of-the-seat suspense, and plenty of twists, psychic and otherwise.

This book pulled me into the story from the opening pages and held my interest right through to the end. I love Krentz's psychic world. While logically I can tell myself that many of the events and abilities that inhabit her fictional world are just that - fiction - I still find myself wondering, what if? She immerses me in her imagination and makes it all seem so real.

Her characters have depths that make them relatable and layers that slowly reveal themselves throughout the story, both to the reader as well as one another. I was fascinated by both Amelia and Gideon, especially as those layers fell away and I learned more about who they were at their core. The romance is not the heart of the book but it definitely is a facet.

You could enjoy Gideon and Amelia's story as a standalone but I'm happy I read the three books in order. There is an overarching mystery that runs through the trilogy, as well as twists in Shattering Dawn that had a greater impact because of things that happened in the first two books.

I don't know what Jayne Ann Krentz has planned for her next book but I'm already looking forward to it.
