Such a great book with really good suspense. The mix of mystery and paranormal really had me on my toes the entire book. I’d totally recommend to everyone.

This was a really interesting and emotional read for me. The story is about a group of kids who spent their summers at a lake house, but something bad happened that changed their lives forever. As they grow up, they have to face the secrets they’ve been hiding. I really liked how the mystery built up slowly, and the characters felt real to me. It made me think about friendship and how the past can follow us. It was a great book that kept me turning pages.

Gregg Dunnett nails the balance of crime, family dysfunction, and eerie suspense. The pacing? Addictive. The twists? Gasp-worthy. The atmosphere? Dripping with tension. And that final reveal—yep, I had to close the book and process.

This was my first Gregg Dunnett book, but it definitely won’t be my last. Highly recommend for fans of Liane Moriarty or Lisa Jewell, with an extra dose of spooky intrigue.

This book had me hooked!!
I loved the fact it flit from interviews to the actual story. I could not put this book down. Jack was such a sweetheart and you really want the other characters to believe him and help him. I love Jack and Kates relationship, she is such a supportive mother and had his best interests throughout. The rest of the characters you didn't know who to trust and some were absolutely loathsome. I will never stop recommending this book!

🚤 Meet Jack, an extraordinary child who is sharing experiences he never experienced. Well, not in this current life…

🐟 The Lake House Children is an intriguing story about a family who is connected once again to their family’s lake home, where a tragic happening occurred. Kate, along with her sisters, nieces and nephews, her dad, and her dad’s recent friend gather at the home at her father’s request. It is an evening of strange discussions, odd happenings, and an unfortunate outcome. While Kate and her sisters are looking for closure, they have a big decision to make about the future of the lake house. A decision that connects greed for some, heartbreak for others, and confusion for all involved.

🎣 Kate discovers that her young son Jack knows things, remembers things, connects to things that he should have any knowledge of. Jack shares unbelievable insights and information with his parents, who have both a hard time understanding and dismissing the conversations that come to light, which prompts Kate to meet with an expert to try and tap into where the root of these comments are coming from. Can Kate’s family survive the unimaginable outcome?

I was engaged until about the middle of the book. I enjoyed the odd family dynamic and Jack’s revelations but grew a little bored by the time spent on the reincarnation aspect. The big reveal was interesting but felt a little underwhelming because there seemed to be little explanation of the fallout. Also, the ending fell a little flat.

Did not see that twist coming! Definitely kept me engaged and wanting to keep reading the entire time. Loved the characters and how they developed! Highly recommend!

Kate's 4-year-old son Jack insists he used to be someone else who died tragically in a previous life. Initially Kate and her husband just think it's his imagination, but when Jack starts revealing memories from before he was born, Kate finds it hard not to believe him and needs to know the truth.

Told in two timelines which were easy to keep straight - 1) two years prior when Kate's father requests that she and her two sisters and their families come to the family lake house to meet his new friend. 2) present day with Kate being interviewed by 2 detectives after a fire at the lake house.

This was very well-written psychological thriller that kept me glued to the pages. I had a feeling about where things were going and was surprised my intuition was right about one of the twists since I am usually a terrible detective. This was my first Gregg Dunnett book but definitely won't be my last. 4 stars.

A creepy book which gave me chills. I enjoyed this but at times I had to walk away from it and read something else. A new author for me and one I'll be reading more of. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

First I want to give a huge shout out to Storm Publishing for providing me an ARC via Netgalley!

This book was absolutely amazing! It was a roller coaster of emotions throughout the entire book! I could not put it down, I needed explanations and to know what happened. It was gut wrenching, compassionate, and thrilling. I was so invested in everyone's back story and all my predictions were proven wrong, which I love. Reincarnation is such a unique and kind of taboo subject, but Dunnett represented it in such a beautiful way. It was interesting and I enjoyed every minute of it. Highly recommend!!

*Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this free ARC in exchange for an honest review. Pub date: September 18, 2024

The only surprise was the reveal of the Dad’s plan at the beginning and the affair reveal at the end. Everything else was frustratingly predictable and had me waiting for a twist because it couldn’t possibly have been this obvious?

I really liked this book. It had me on the edge of my seat! I knew how the end would go, but I didn’t know why. There was a twist at the end that I absolutely did not see coming. Looking back on it, I still don’t know that I would have guessed it. It was so artfully done. Another thing I really enjoyed about this book was the structure. Dunnett employed an interesting strategy of starting at the end and having the entire book be an interrogation with flashbacks throughout. I was really impressed with how well the flashbacks were integrated. Flashbacks are easy to mess up or pull a reader out of the story, and this book did none of that. It was excellent. I will definitely be reading more from this author in the future!

Huge thanks to Storm Publishing and NetGalley for sending me this ARC for review! All of my reviews are given honestly!
