Sublime and creepy. Its great to see Clark’’s versatility!
(More thoughts to come in the October issue of my newsletter)
(eARC of one short story)
Usually I'm not a fan of short stories but I would read Eliza's grocery list and love it.
This story is told through restaurant reviews of a strange place called 'Little Chitaly' that serves italian/chinese fusion food and arrives at your door bizarrely fast.
It's intriguing, funny and a little spooky and I can't wait to read more.
With Eliza Clark being an auto buy author for me, I was so excited for this and wish it was the full book as the little sample I had was just enough to have me wanting more!
Written in the usual way Eliza writes bur again like Boy Parts & Penance completely different stories!
I've not read any Eliza Clark before and this single story from her upcoming collection was super weird! I think I liked it but yeah quite weird. Will definitely being trying the rest of the stories when they come out though.
Should’ve read the reviews lol. Mystery, intrigue, and all sorts; there’s a whole novel in there and no one reads the same one twice! Let’s just say that this sample has whetted my appetite for the rest of the collection!
Thank you Faber and Faber Ltd and NetGalley for the sampler of She's Always Hungry by Eliza Clark in exchange for my honest opinions!!
I became a fan of Eliza Clark after I read Boy Parts, so I was very excited about getting to read a part of her new book early. I really enjoyed the quirky story and can't wait to read more.
This was really weird? It only took like twenty minutes to read, i’m really confused though. Kind of disturbed. Feel like maybe there’s a food truck stalking me??? Read it. LOL.
Seriously read it or else your delivery drivers might start giving you chitaly.
LOOOOOVED this. eliza clark is one of my favourite authors and after 'penance' was my favourite book of 2023, 'she's always hungry' became one of my most anticipated releases of 2024. this snippet was amazing and i cannot wait to read more when the book is released
With thanks to NetGalley, I received an ARC of the first story from this new collection by Eliza Clark. While I've not read any of Clark's writing before, the short story 'The Shadow Over Little Chitaly' has me very excited to read more. A subtle and funny horror told through Just Eat-style reviews of a restaurant where things aren't quite right, it's difficult to review without giving away too much of the plot, even if it did manage to surprise me with every turn.
It's hard to predict what will come up in the rest of She's Always Hungry, but this short exerpt has me seated ready for the book's November publishing date. If Little Chitaly is anything to go by, I feel as though I'm sure to enjoy it. Clark's writing in this story alone has a sense of wit with something odd lurking beneath the surface - a feeling I often search for when reading horror, and I'm excited to read more of Clark's work and see what she has up her sleeve.
While this was only a taster it definitely has me very intrigued for the whole book, it's seems like it'll be a fantastic collection for Halloween, I can't wait to read the whole thing!
I will devour anything and everything that Eliza Clark writes. I cannot wait to read the rest of these short stories! Eliza is truly a genius and I cannot wait to see what she does next.
When I first requested this there was no mention that this was just a sampler, so that was a bit disappointing.
But Eliza Clark's writing style always draws me in and I'm glad to say the same can be said for this.
As it's such a short sampler I've only given this 4 stars but I'm really keen to read the full book and it has certainly piqued my interest.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Really enjoyed this story, it was just as bizarre as I was hoping it would be! I can’t wait to read the rest of the collection when it is released!
Weird and wacky short story, very excited to read the full collection once it’s available.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
This was a bizarre and tasty little sneak peak into Eliza Clark's next book and I'm honestly hungry to read more.
I didn’t notice this was just a sampler, so u was a bit disappointed that it was so short. I really hope we get the full version in the future on NetGalley before the book comes out. Despite the short length, this small sample was very interesting and intriguing!
Eliza Clark became an instant read for me the moment I read Boy Parts so I requested this before I knew what it was; the premise, the short stories and the fact, sadly, that it was a sampler! Alas, thoroughly enjoyed the first story: as ALWAYS with Clark, I laughed out loud. I repeated parts in my head; I shared the parts I loved; I hungered for more but also wanted to truly savour this. And that’s how I felt about a short story centred entirely on takeaway reviews - bring on the rest! 5 stars, always.
The ARC I have been kindly given only contained one of the short stories but I already know I will love the whole collection! If you love Black Mirror like I do, this one is for you!
Incredible short story, drop the whole collection please I can't wait until November!
Honestly think Eliza Clark is one of the smartest writers working in the UK and Ireland right now.
This was a great sampler! It’s such a unique concept and really sucked me in. I will definitely be picking up the full book when it releases!
