This was a great book. We saw three best friends go on different adventures together, and learn a few lessons along the way. Once this book came to a close it was obvious these adventures were not over yet. Some kids will have a lot of fun reading this book.
Life in the Wild is a simple book perfect for early elementary aged kids. My 7 year old would love to read about bear, moose, and beaver friends who find themselves in scraped and learn from their mistakes.
As a parent, this book felt a little clunky. The actions move page to page without much transition, almost like an early reader. However, there were some technical terms, like “port side” that may be over an early reader’s vocabulary.
Overall, a cute set of stories with simple
Illustrations that 5-8 year olds may enjoy.
Six stories from the Life in the Wild series are collected here in one volume. I enjoyed the three stories that highlight one of the three characters of the series. THE BUSY BEAVER was my favorite of these three, and my favorite of the whole collection. I also enjoyed the friendship stories in UP THE CREEK and WALK ON THE WILD SIDE. The hockey story was the weakest of the collection in my opinion.
I love this author's books so to read them all in a compilation was brilliant!
I love the illustrations in this series, they work so well with the text to bring everything to life for the reader.
There is a mix of stories with this one and they are all excellent and really easy to read and follow.
The three characters are great, easy has it's own unique personality and I loved getting to know more about them as the book progressed.
It is 5 stars from me for this one - loved the different stories - very highly recommended!
A fun adventure in the wild. Perfect your little ones. Several adventures with our friends Bear, Moose and Beaver all in one book. These are so fun. The friends have their own unique way of doing things, Beaver is very careless, a bear who loves to hug and a moose who doesn’t like to take any chances. These stories are so full of humor, friendship and working together. The stories each have hidden lessons like kindness and understanding. The artwork is created by the author and really adds to the silly side of the stories. We loved these adventures and I know your family will too. They are fun to read together as a family. Perfect for story time. Enjoy the adventure.
A series of cute stories about a beaver, moose and bear. Some of the stories had a good lesson written in, others seemed to try to have a lesson but it wasn’t quite there. The illustrations were fantastic! My 5 year old loved all of the stories, my 2 year old lost interest about halfway through most.
Thank you NetGalley and Kids can Press for this ARC
This book is a collection of six stories following the friendship between a beaver, a moose and a bear. It’s an incredibly fun book to read, seeing all the silly things these characters get up to. The stories are all quite short and sweet. I definitely recommend this to younger audiences. It’s such a fun read!
Thank you to NetGalley and Kids Can Press for this ARC!
This includes 6 stories about a bear, a moose, and a beaver. The stories are fun, as the trio get into different adventures. My daughter enjoyed the stories and they had nice messages. Highly enjoyable!
This was such a fun book for me and my 3yo son to read. He really loved all the fun pictures and the storylines were very silly. The stories were super ridiculous but it made them fun. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC
The Life in the Wild collection of stories is fun. Stories of the friendships of the Bear, the Moose, and the Beaver, where they engaged in different activities, including saving trees, going on boating adventures, going mountain climbing, and playing ice hockey. Each story FEELS like it's supposed to have a good life lesson, but it felt like the lessons kind of fell flat.
What a sweet collection of stories with great characters and fun illustrations! I love the life lessons being taught in kid-friendly and accessible stories. 5 stars!
My three little boys room is cabin theme, and so they were SO excited to read this before bedtime. It was darling! Such a fun childrens book.
This was SUCH a cute concept! My daughters loved looking at the illustration. We laughed so much while reading this together!
I've met lots of author/artists of kids' books at various ALA and similar conventions, in the artist's alley and publishers' booths and so on. The nicest guy I ever met and chatted with was Sam Garton, who does all of the "Otter" books. But, if I could only ever meet one other artist/author, my wish is that it would be Nicholas Oldland. He looks and sounds like a good guy. That he draws designs for an outdoor clothing company he partly owns is just the icing on the cake for this Coloradan. Anyway, if you don't know his work, this anthology book is the perfect starting point and library addition. It opens with the first appearance of the three pals, although the story mostly features Bear. It follows the development of the series and closes with the classic hockey story. These all came out as individual books, so this collection is sort of a six-in-one, which is nice. Bottom line, these are the three most mellow and engaging kids' book characters you're ever likely to find. The stories are minimal and the art at first seems sort of sketchy and simple, but just look at Beaver's always slightly quizzical/manic expression, Moose's mellow vibe, or Bear's heart, and tell me you don't feel just a bit better for the experience. Geez, this is good bedtime reading for adults.
This is awesome! Finally a collection of Oldland's work. I love Big Bear Hug and I am glad that it is the first story that the collection opens with. It feels ceremonial for the final story to be Hockey in the Wild, the most iconic story of all. Each of Oldland's stories are whacky and wild, each with a hilarious conflict that is always beautifully solved. I love reading about Bear, Moose and Beaver's friendship, grow and develop; they have endless patience for each other. This will be the perfect gift as it is a collection of stories, specifically for any tourists visiting Canada,
