The bear, moose and beaver are excited for Christmas and busy with preparations. In their rush, they forget to get a tree. They head to the woods and find the perfect one. Now, what to do with their perfect tree leads to the three friends fighting. It may get a little rough for younger readers, but the bear does find a compromise that satisfies everyone. I always enjoy the illustrations in this series, and this one doesn't disappoint.
Thanks to Kids Can Press, Nicholas Oldland and NetGalley for this ARC.
I am hoping my libraries will carry more of this series to use in my art room. The drawings are simple ( maybe too simple) and cute ( but not too cute). The stories have good messages about life and friendship. They are short for the younger children to sit and listen. I like choosing more than one character or animals for the students to choose from for a project. I also like Christmas books with something other than Santa if I choose a holiday book during the season. Just my preference but I don’t like multiple pictures of the same animal layered on a page to show an animal flying through the air. Maybe it would work for flip book effect. I do hope to get more books in the series to try for different themes.Thank you to Kids Can Press and NetGalley for a digital copy for review.
I really enjoyed this lovely holiday read! I found the story absolutely adorable and loved the resourcefulness of the main characters. I particularly liked the bear in this story and the stand he took to save the tree. A lovely Christmas story with a unique and special message.
I love the illustrations in One Wild Christmas, the beaver and the moose and the bear are adorable. I just don't know if beating up your friends and tying them up to get your way is really a good message to be sending at any time of the year.
I would be curious to read some of the other books in the series now though.....maybe bear just gave in to the holiday stress.
Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to read the ARC of this book.
I literally adore Christmas and am always on the look-out for more kids' Christmas books. And I love this one!!! Such a sweet story of finding a middle ground when everyone doesn't want the same thing. I'll definitely be buying this for my daughter! 5 stars.
One Wild Christmas follows a bear, a moose, and a beaver as they prepare for Christmas. They soon realize they forgot to get a tree, and they find the perfect tree in the forest. However, the bear does not want it cut down. The illustrations are cute, and the book is sweet. The book also has a good message about friendship, and it would be great for kids to read around Christmastime.
Cute story of animal friends celebrating Christmas with each other, only to find that they forgot the Christmas tree.
Go on an adventure with these animals to find a Christmas tree.
Loved the Illustrations

One Wild Christmas by author and illustrator Nicholas Oldland is a delightful, zany, and creative holiday treat for young readers.
A moose, a beaver, and a bear get together to celebrate their favorite time of year. On Christmas Eve they are getting everything together when they realize they have forgotten the tree. So, off to the forest they dash to find the perfect one. But once find it, the bear can’t stand the thought of the beautiful tree being harmed. Is there a way to save Christmas?
One Wild Christmas is part Goldilocks, part crazy antics, and part navigating friendship all rolled into one seasonal tale that will leave you with a warm heart and a full smile. Part of Oldland’s Life in the Wild series, this book embraces nature with a storyline and artwork that make you feel like you’re on an outdoor adventure alongside its animal characters.
If you and your youngsters enjoy seasonal stories with fun artwork and a tiny lesson tucked inside, One Wild Christmas should be on your wish list.
Highly recommended!
This book was such a fun one!!! My four kids and I absolutely loved reading this together. The characters were precious, the storyline was fun, and the illustrations were adorable. Wonderfully done!
Another excellent book in this series. I own all of Nick’s books and will definite purchase this for my young nieces. The characters feel extra Canadian to me.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic copy to read in exchange for an honest review.
This series is one of my absolute favourites to share with my kindergarten students. There is always a good lesson and fun parts to talk about! I cannot wait to purchase a physical copy to add to our classroom library!
Such a cute and funny book! This book, through both the writing style and the illustrations, will have kids giggling out loud throughout the entire story. The illustrations were so simple, but were still so effective in both telling the story and giving the story a whimsical (and kind of quirky) tone, perfect for young readers. As for the story, it flowed very nicely and the ending teaches kids about making good compromises by using some problem-solving skills, just like the bear in this story did. I have zero doubt that this book will be a hit, and a fast favorite, among little ones.
Bravo!
I love these guys. Only a very few illustrated book series get the characters exactly right, and consistently exactly right. This one does. The story is all well and good and heartwarmy and whatnot, which is great, but I just like to look at these three goofs and relax. Much cheaper than therapy.
OKAY! Christmas book of the season! A great option for those visiting Canada and want to get a themed picture book. Bear, Moose and Beaver are celebrating the holiday season, getting everything ready and suddenly they realize that they have forgotten the tree!! OH NO! What are they going to do! The group sleds off to find the perfect tree, but Bear thinks that it is just too perfect to chop down. A brawl ensues, and Bear with his massive strength ties the others to the tree so that Beaver cannot chomp the tree down. Bear realizes he might have ruined the celebration, and in a very Grinch-y way packs up the holiday cheer and sets it up around the perfect tree.
This is a great bedtime/Christmas morning read and perfect for ages 3-6.
Oldland never misses.
