Rover and Speck visit a gas giant to look for signs of life, and end up making new friends. Science facts are interspersed with all the silly action, and this makes for a fun, informative read . . . even for grownups.
I received an ARC of this book through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Totally admire what the author was trying to do here. And, I realize that I am not the intended audience. That said, it was pretty dry for me. I did really enjoy the spark sharks and the gas jellies. I don't see myself pushing this book out into the hands of younger kids.
Rover and Speck was a fun little educational comic aimed at children. I haven't read the previous volumes but that didn't matter, we immediately jump into their adventures and learn things along the way. This will be a great read for my child when she is older.
Rover and Speck are space-traveling rovers off to explore the universe. In this installment, they discover a gas giant planet and decide to search it for life. What they find is adventure and some curious creatures, but will they be able to navigate this new environment and find their way home? You’ll have to read it to find out.
The characters are adorably quirky and the action-packed adventure is full of jokes. The comic-style illustrations are colorful and imaginative. Throughout the story are sprinkled Science Fun Facts that share interesting facts about everything from giant storms to states of matter. There is so much science layered into this thoroughly creative story that my only complaint is that young readers may struggle to separate the fact from fiction.
This is a hilarious, gorgeous, and entertaining graphic novel, perfect for younger audiences and those young readers who love space, spaceships, planets, and astronauts. It will take them places and make them laugh.
I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Rover and Speck: It's a Gas! takes young readers on a hilarious space adventure as Rover and Speck explore a gas giant planet.
The story contains cool space facts and plenty of humour to keep young readers engaged.
I loved the illustrations in this book, they were really stand out for me and very much in keeping with the story - they are fantastic!
It is a well written book and I liked the facts that were added as well. I do love that the story teaches as well as being a good story for kids, so that is always going to be a plus for me as a mum.
I really enjoyed it as a parent and my daughter loved it - she is very in to space at the moment and loves visiting the National Space Centre in Leicester so it was a big hit with her too.
It is 5 stars from me for this one - very highly recommended!
I read this book with my son. He loves space and we both really liked this book. He is 8 years old and can be picky when it comes to books, so it means a lot that he likes this. I liked the educational aspect of the book as well as the entertaining parts of it.
Jonathan Roth explores creative and all-ages storytelling in a colorful and enjoyable style. What do more, Roth delivers a series book that readers can connect with and keep enjoying. I would gladly recommend this series for young readers, school libraries, and classrooms.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book was full of laughs and was a great story. The illustrations in the book were great and this will will be a great read for kids.
I am a fan of Rover and Speck. The first book started out a bit choppy, but as they have gotten rolling in the series, I'm finding that I enjoy them more overall. This was no exception and is probably among the stronger stories. These graphic novels are great for introducing science in a storytelling way that isn't too obtrusive. Rover and Speck teach, but they don't teach without a good story around the teachable moments or pieces. But you do learn about the planets and states of matter as they go on this particular adventure.
The illustration is sharp and colourful, and it pulls in some cute creatures from this gas planet that are a bit fantasy but also a bit "why not."
If you haven't read the earlier books, there's no reason to go back and start them in order to get through this one. It's pretty much stand alone, but if your young reader likes the book, then you have a collection of earlier ones you can jump back to. And again, no need to go in order. Sure, there are some references to past adventures, but they aren't necessary for understanding this one.
Oh Rover does such a great job taking your kids on an adventure with this one! My kids loved this book. It was fun, exciting, and kept my kids so entertained. Well done!
This is a great book that brings fun and science together, It is easy to understand and along with the fun story it gives Science facts. This would be a great book for kids that want to learn more about space, and would be a great homeschooling book as well.
Robots exploring new planets with the help of gas makes for a hilarious graphic novel for young readers. The addition of facts about planets and other things in the solar system make it more educational for the kids who want more facts while the silly banter will keep many readers entertained!
