This book claims to offer a biblical perspective on womanhood but relies on a narrow, conservative worldview rather than a nuanced understanding of scripture or history. The authors dismiss cultural and historical context, promoting rigid gender roles as God’s design while ignoring alternative theological interpretations. Ironically, they admit to being raised with the same ideology they now advocate, undermining their claim to objective truth. Instead of offering genuine insight, the book perpetuates guilt and confusion, equating traditionalism with faithfulness. They reject things they taught in the past, which puts blame on themselves rather than the religion in which those beliefs are rooted. Readers seeking a thoughtful exploration of biblical womanhood will find only shallow critiques of modern culture and recycled conservative rhetoric.
Written by sisters Kristen Clark and Bethany Beal, Made To Be She is a guide for Christian women to help them find their true identity. Discussing problems and pitfalls Christian women face, the book touches on feminism, purity, and true relationship with Christ.
I did enjoy this book, but I felt like too many generalizations were made and the book felt a little rushed. Instead of trying to fit so much in at once, I would like to have seen a more in-depth breakdown of each topic.
