Quic, fun, and informative book on a popular animal! I learned a lot about one of my favorite animals. I think especially kids 4-10 would enjoy this book. I think the audio was well narrated but I would recommend listening and looking at the book so you can see the different species talked about.

"Axolotl (Young Zoologist): A First Field Guide to the Amphibian that Never Grows Up" is children's nonfiction
by Neon Squid; Dr. Jessica LaMae Whited.

This review refers to the audiobook only of this book. It is information packed!

Soneela Nankani delivers the narration in an approachable, friendly way. Background music and sound effects add to the story nicely.

The book is organized by starting with the fact file about the animal. Then they tell you what kit is needed to study them in the wild versus in a lab. Then they talk about the anatomy, then the habitat, what they eat, dangers, super powers, and where they are found in culture.

A few things I learned were that they are actually a kind of salamander, and they are critically endangered. They have feathery gills that stick out around their heads. They do not go through metamorphosis, and they always keep their tails. If they lose a limb or tail, it will grow back. Also, if they lose part of their heart or spine, it will regenerate. This regeneration is like a superpower, and it is the main reason they are being studied for future medical use for humans.

In the wild, they live in two lakes in Mexico, but other habitats are being created for them. Dangers to them are loss of habitat and invasive species predators.

Axolotls are found in video games as well as Mexican paper currency. One of the Aztec icons was Shallut, the Aztec God of fire and lightning, who turned himself into an Axolotl.

I highly recommend this book! It is a great book for a school or classroom library. It's useful information for anyone interested in learning about Axolotls.

Thank you to Netgalley, MacMacMillan Audio, MacMillan Young Listeners, and Neon Squid, Dr. Jessica LaMae, for providing this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

I listened to the audiobook version of this book. There was so much great information given. It would be best if you can look through the physical or ebook and listen to the audiobook. The narrator did a great job. We learned new things even though we have learned about Axolotl before. My kids enjoyed listening to it.

Thank you NetGalley and MacMillan Audio for the opportunity to listen to this book in advance.

My kids and I love the Young Zoologist books so we were super excited to receive this one. I love that the Axolotl has it's own book now, you don't hear about this amphibian and there is so many interesting facts to be told. The narrator did amazing at keeping my kids engaged in the story and learn new facts. We can't wait to get more of these audiobooks. We like to listen to them on our Yoto Player.

Thank you to the author and NetGalley for this ARC!!

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for my gifted audiobook.

This was such an interesting book and I cannot wait to buy the physical copy for my classroom. There is so much information packed in this one that is presented in a fun and exciting way. I can see my students going back into this book numerous times to memorize these facts. Axolotls are such fun creatures and kids love them!

My kids love the Young Zoologist books, so we were excited to preview the new audiobook, Axolotl. Similar in format to the print books, there is lots of information presented in the audiobook. The narration performance was engaging without being obnoxious, which is such a fine line that not all audio content at kids manages to get right. My kids particularly enjoyed the variety of fun facts (there was a good one about limbs!), but some of the specific measurements were hard to follow in audio format. Overall, we really enjoyed this book and look forward to more in this series, both in audio and print.

Thank you to Macmillan Audio for gifting my family with an ALC to review. All opinions are my own.

My kids and I absolutely adored learning about the axolotl through this audiobook. It was so wonderfully narrated and made each section feel so exciting. The audio had background sound effects and music that paired well with the text and never overwhelmed the narration. Highly recommend this audiobook, especially for a fun car ride listening experience!

This was a fun book to listen to with my young son. Axolotls are really interesting animals! Both my son and I learned so much! I hope we can help protect this sweet animal for generations to come! I definitely recommend checking this audiobook out!

For this review I let my 8 year old going into third grade help me review it. She is very into axolotls and would be the primary audience.
Her words "It was really good, I liked it, It was kinda interesting. I liked learning about all the new facts. The book was at my level. I learned some new facts that I did not know. I liked the whole thing"
She seemed to be very invested the entire time and was kept engaged. Axolotls are very popular currently at the elementary age and she often is upset at the lack of books available to her on the subject. I personally would have enjoyed having pictures to go with what was being said about them but this did not seem to affect my child.

As a stand-alone audiobook, I wouldn't recommend this. However if you had the print version to follow along on while listening to the audiobook, I'd recommend it completely! My rating of 5/5 is in regards to the content itself, for that reason.

Even as an adult (with easy access to my background knowledge of what a salamander or spinal cord is), sometimes it was hard to picture what the narrator was referring to.  For kids who may not have run into a salamander before it would be impossible to picture, in turn ruining the comparison made in the book.
Depending on the reader, some words may be too big to understand. Having a print copy would mitigate that, as well.

A short and sweet read on a short and sweet creature!

{Thank you to NetGalley, Neon Squid and Dr. Jessica LaMae Whited for the ALC!}

This audiobook was made available for me to listen to and review by Neon Squid, Dr. Jessica LaMae Whited, Macmillan Audio, and NetGalley.

This audiobook is narrated by Soneela Nankani. Ms. Nankani has a warm and engaging tone of voice. This narration includes a soundtrack of light music and fun sounds to keep kids engaged.

This is perfect for grade school age kids. I think the information is accessible to even 1st graders with parental assistance. I learned quite a bit about axolotls & salamanders. This is really cute and offers a quite thorough introduction to these animals: where they can be found, how they look, what they eat, their predators and life cycle.

Thank you to Neon Squid, Dr. Jessica LaMae Whited, Macmillan Audio, and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to and review this audiobook. All opinions and viewpoints expressed in this review are my own.

Axolotls are the number one requested animal book right now. This was a fantastic find. I listened to it with some kids and they were sad when it was over. I have Axolotls for pets and found the information accurate and informative. Great find.
