The penultimate Eve Dallas novel did not disappoint. It's a credit to her writing talents that Nora Roberts (aka JD Robb) has been able to keep this almost 60 book series entertaining and suspenseful all these years! I've been reading about Eve and Roarke and the rest of the gang since I was in highschool and it's going to be bittersweet to say goodbye! While I'm personally not a big fan of the narrative style of Susan Erickson, it is nice that she's been the consistent voice of for the audiobooks! Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early audio copy in exchange for my honest review!

When a bride-to-be gets murdered at the bachelorette party it could be anyone, including the guests. The mystery unravels all the twists to find the killer. A great read.

This is book 59 in this series and while I have only read about 10 or so books (scattered of course) I could follow and enjoy this one. I will admit reading them in order does enhance it a bit (for instance there was a cameo in this one from a small player in the last one which I read which was fun), but you can follow the story without that. This mystery did feel smaller in some ways to some that I have read, but it also explored friendship and had Eve doing some introspection on how her cases impacted her with some clear parallels between her and the victim. I enjoyed this one more than the last one I think because it felt deeper, but I do admit it is less action packed. I listened to the audiobook and loved the way the narrator brought everyone to life (except Peabody’s voice, that seemed silly honestly). Eve is called to the same club where she was attacked right before her own wedding to a party of women who had been celebrating two of the women’s impending marriage. But one of the brides has been murdered and Eve is determined to figure out who. I do have to admit this one was easier than most to solve (the only other possible suspect was way too obvious).

I relish the twice a year opportunity to jump back into the world of Dallas and Rourke and this installment of the In Death series did not disappoint. I love that we’re seeing more and more of Eves acceptance of her need and the joy of her marriage. This was my first foray into the audiobook world and once the period of adjustment….maybe 4 chapters….i grew to like it. I think the moderator/reader did a good job with the voices of each character. My initial hesitation was hearing someone else’s interpretation of voices I’ve heard for years in my head.

Passions in Death is the 59th book in the In Death series and this installment was just as riveting as the others.

We are given murder, suspense, mystery, and drama which had me at the edge of my seat throughout the story, as Lieutenant Eve Dallas along with her partner Detective Delia Peabody attempt to solve a murder thereby bringing a criminal to justice.

It's always fascinating to see Eve's investigative skills, seeing how she pieces the clues together and then later on interrogate the suspects. This story was a bit emotional, and while I tried to determine the culprit, I unfortunately came up short.

From book 1, Roarke has always been one of my top BBF and he continues to remain in that position. His unwavering support of Eve both professionally and personally always had me swooning, and here was no exception. Along with Sommerset and Galahad, I loved that we got to meet up with some of the series favorites but i wished they had a bigger role. This was a wonderful read and great addition to the series. I loved it and would definitely recommend it.

I listened to the audiobook version of this novel which was narrated by Susan Erickson. Her voice was clear and understandable and she did a good job giving the characters different voices. Unfortunately, there were certain times I didn't care for the exasperated voice she gave Eve and a couple of times, Eve sounded like Peabody. However she did bring the story to life and for the most part I did enjoy it.

I don't think this was a bad book. I just don't think it was for me. It was a bit quirkier than I would want in a story about murder. I tend to like darker tales, but I can fully understand the appeal. It is well written and well narrated. Thank you for letting me read this book and best of luck with the release.

Another hit in this long running series. I am always ready for a new In Death book and I am glad there are usually two new ones each year, February and September. Reliable narrator and you just know which character is speaking by her different voices. Interesting storyline, as expected.

Passions in Death
An Eve Dallas Novel
by J. D. Robb
Narrated by Susan Ericksen

In Passions in Death by J.D. Robb, the 59th book in the In Death series, Homicide Lieutenant Eve Dallas faces another gripping case. A pre-wedding party turns deadly when the bride is murdered in a private room, sparking a complex investigation. The story weaves together mystery, suspense, and moments of sentimentality, especially between Eve and her husband, Roarke.
Narrator Susan Ericksen does a fantastic job, bringing each character to life with distinct voices and capturing the urgency of the plot. While her narration took some getting used to, she now feels like the perfect fit for this long-running series. Robb continues to deliver fresh, engaging mysteries even after 59 books. Perfect for fans of police procedurals and mysteries, this audiobook is a must-listen!

Very grateful to @macmillanaudio for my ALC, opinions are my own

A pre wedding party turns into a deadly event for the wedding couple. A bloody discovery is made and
Lieutenant Eve Dallas, her partner, Detective Delia Peabody, arrive to work the scene. Now detectives must investigate everyone of the bride's circle to see who would want to hurt the bride. The narrator, Susan Ericksen and author both kept me engaged till the very end. I also enjoyed the moments with Eve and her husband Roarke as well. I couldn't make up my mind who was behind the murder. It dives into Erin's and Shauna's past. Perfect for lovers of mystery, and police procedural.

For me, this series its the ultimate comfort read (or in this case, listen). There is a familiar cast of characters, the cozy feelings of our main character being known and loved. There is always the gruesome, awful mystery to unpack, but Robb does a great job of really getting you to understand the victim, and really feel for them. The futuristic aspects are fun and consistent book to book. I really enjoyed this story and was engaged throughout! It is a good book, the narrator is good as well. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to provide my honest review.

Passions in Death by J D Robb
In Death series #59. Futuristic police procedural.
Homicide Lieutenant Eve Dallas is awakened by a phone call from dispatch about a murder at the Down and Dirty club. A bride has been killed in one of the private rooms at a pre-wedding girls’ night party. Roarke goes with Eve to the bar, knowing she’s had her own history of assault in those private rooms. But Eve will have to put that aside now as she works the current case where no one saw anything helpful and the bar has no cameras to pull from.

🎧 I listened to an audiobook of this novel narrated by Susan Erickson who does the majority of the series. There is a specific accented voice for Roarke, and of course, Eve, Peabody and a couple of other regulars. To be honest, it took me a couple of books to get used to the narrator since it wasn’t what I used to from originally reading the series. She has grown on me and I now appreciate the continuity as well as hearing these characters come to life.
I do listen at 1.5 to more closely match my reading speed and conversations.

I Laughed out loud when Eve Dallas is using the beverage machine in the police station and at the end of the transaction, it says thank you to Detective Baxter! Hilarious. Dallas is using someone else’s code because she’s been restricted. She has a history of bad language and hitting and kicking the machine. Too funny.

There was also some seldom heard sentimentality from Eve about being married and how nice it is. Then she and Roarke walked among peach trees in their back yard and she remembers planting one. We know they are happy together but these sweet acknowledgments were touching to hear.
A wonderful addition to the series.

I received a copy of the from NetGalley and publisher Macmillan Audio.

Narrator Susan Ericksen brings the latest In Death novel to glorious life with stop on depictions of Eve Dallas, her husband Rourke, and the entire cast of characters. This listener cannot imagine anyone else giving voice to this fan favorite series.

Highly recommended for all audiobook fans, and all mystery fans. #PassionsInDeath #NetGalley #SaltMarshAuthorSeries

Thank you to NetGalley and MacMillan audio for the advanced opportunity to review this novel.

I wasn't sure how I would feel about this book at first. The narrator's tone struck me as a bit nasally, and some of the characters were read with a touch of a baby voice, which initially put me off. Additionally, I was not familiar with J.D. Robb's *In Death* series or the fact that it is set in the future, so it took me some time to settle into the story's unique setting.

However, as the story progressed, I found myself becoming more engaged and eventually intrigued by the world and characters Robb has created. The female narrator did an impressive job carrying the male characters with distinct accents, which really enhanced the atmosphere and setting of the book.

While it took me a while to get into the rhythm of the story, I ended up enjoying it and am now curious to read more books in the series.

Passions in Death AUDIO by JD Robb is the second of her Eve Dallas books I have listened to. I will have to try reading one, as the reader, Susan Eriksen, is terrible. She reads for lots of authors so maybe it is not her fault and she is directed to read this way. It is almost as if she has just learned to read. She is slow and dissonant and she makes listening a chore for me. Plus, the book is long, so that makes it all the more painful.

The mystery was good but the setting, 2069, shows me that things are not all that different then. Not sure if that is a good thing. Devices go by different names, but that is about all the difference I see. The investigation is the same. There are no new tools. Lab works takes too long, same as today. I am simply not thrilled by a book that promised so much and delivered so little.

I was invited to listen to Passions in Death by MacMillan Audio. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #Netgalley #MacMillanAudio #JDRobb #PassionsInDeath

It’s hard to believe that this is the 59th book in JD Robb’s “In Death” series featuring futuristic New York City detective Eve Dallas and her Irish billionaire husband Roarke. I remember listening to the first audio recording of the series on cassette tapes back in 1995! Despite the number of installments, the author consistently keeps the series fresh and the murders unique. This time the murder victim is a soon to be bride a few days before her wedding at a nightclub celebration. Eve and her team of detectives won’t give up until justice is obtained and the murderer behind bars. As always, narrative Susan Ericksen did an amazing job providing unique voices for all the characters and providing urgency and emotion in all the right places.

I enjoyed the audiobook. The pace was perfect. The narrator had a great voice for listening.

Erin and Shauna are celebrating their upcoming nuptials when someone kills Erin. Erin was about to surprise Shauna with her dream honeymoon to Hawaii. Homocide detective Eve Dallas works to track down the murderer.

Another winner in this futuristic crime thriller series.

It's summer in Manhattan, but it's not the heat that brings Lt. Eve Dallas and Roarke to the air conditioned Down and Dirty sex club that night. A bride-to-be lies dead in a private room along with a case of special surprises for her fiancée. Because the club was mostly full of their best friends in a pre-wedding celebration, Eve knows that one of them must have killed Erin Albright, a 27-year-old mixed race artist who was about to marry Shauna Hunnicut. The LGBTQ+ friend tribe is in shock and Shauna is devastated. Eve and her colleagues are determined to get justice for this cold-blooded and obviously calculated murder.

It amazes me that the author can keep this level of suspense and write interesting plots after 58 other installments featuring Detective Eve Dallas. It's been fun to see all the other characters grow and develop through the pages of the series and I really like them all. Of course, it's Eve and Roarke who have the ideal marriage and partnership, but they are very generous to their friends as well. It's fun with the futuristic bent and the little details about the state of the cities and the ways that people live and work. I am always eager for the next book.

I was able to listen to the audiobook while reading along with the e-book ARC (both provided by the publishers). The narrator, Susan Ericksen, does an excellent job with all the character voices and accents. Her performance is always fabulous as she is so animated and appropriately dramatic. As always, simultaneous listening and reading enhances my enjoyment of the book.

Passions in Death by J.D. Robb is a fab addition to the Eve Dallas series, where the stakes are personal and the hunt is intense.

The novel plunges Detective Dallas into a chilling murder at a pre-wedding party, where the bride-to-be is found garroted in a private room. The crime's brutal nature and the emotional turmoil it stirs up for Eve, who has her own painful memories tied to the crime scene, add layers of complexity to the investigation.

This is a tale of hidden passions and cold-blooded calculation, keeping readers on edge as Eve relentlessly pursues justice for the slain bride. This novel is a read for fans of the series, delivering the perfect mix of suspense, emotion, and detective work. Love me a good police procedural whodunnit!

Thank you J.D.Robb, Macmillan Audio, and Netgalley for the advanced copy!

It’s been a while since I read a book in this series & I jumped right back into the chaos! I cannot wait to read the ones I’ve missed in between. This was a very fast paced read full of interesting characters, including the usual gang. Highly recommend for fans of JD Robb!

Love how this series is set in NYC in the future!

The year is 2061 and Lt. Eve Dallas is called to the scene of a murder. But, it’s not just any murder. The woman who was killed was a young woman who was so full of life and love, and was marrying her partner in just a few days. The love of her life!
As they are celebrating a girls night out before the wedding, she plans to surprise her fiancé with a special gift in a private room (in a strip club!) But, it’s not what you’d think… And when she walks in, she is murdered.

As Dallas and Peabody investigate, it’s interesting to see how Eve’s mind works…as she dissects all the pieces, and then puts the puzzle back together to figure out whodunnit?!!

Love all the ancillary characters in this one too! They make up quite a crew! But the love of all the friends just shines through so brightly, that it’s just refreshing…and beautiful. Even though it’s so sad…

I also love how ‘lovey-dovey’ Eve is with Roarke in this one…saying how happy she is, and lucky, to be married and have such a wonderful partner!

Going to 🛑 STOP right here! 🛑. I will say that I had plenty of guesses who the culprit was, and I was not correct…

4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for me!

Thanks so much to #NetGalley and #MacmillanAudio for an ARC of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
*** The release date is set for 9/3/24…so a few days from now! ***
