The horses were the uncredited and often mistreated stars of the early 20th century westerns. This book highlights the highs and lows, and the sad reality many of the horses faced.

Excellent book. Very well researched and written. More to the stories than I anticipated. I really enjoyed it, found it hard to put down, and highly recommended it especially for history or movie buffs.

An interesting overview of the behind the scenes of stunt doubles on horseback, and also the allure of the wild west shows that help inspire the western movies we all know and love. Interesting research, and it gives names to the people who achieved the performing acts that are commonly shown. Would recommend this book. Not one to read cover to cover, at least for me, but a good one to pick up and read a chapter here and there. Fun read.
