Get Your Spark Back by Rachel Marie Martin is a fountain of examples, information, and tools to re-ignite the embers in your life and begin to live a full life- a life of joy, bravery, adventure, and so much more. Rachel share's her story in an open and honest way throughout the book showing how she overcame hangups, her baggage, and past in her life. At the end of each chapter there is a section called Fire Starters which are steps to help you examine yourself and start applying the information in your life. Rachel states "You are your number-one advocate on your life journey. You must decide, "I am worth investing in me."' and "every day we are given two choices--do nothing or do something." In the book Rachel helps you start to reframe and rethink situations and learn to be a positive advocate in your own life. Rachel takes you on her journey, through personal stories, situations and discovery, as she began to find joy and reignite the embers in her own life. I really liked some of the examples Rachel used in the book from the Lorax to the kelly-green shorts. Some of the chapter titles are "Who Am I Now? Learning from Your Past and Letting Go", "What If I'm Rejected? The Paradox of Caring", and "What If It Feels Too Late? Dealing with Age, Dreams, and Time". I had to read the book slower and in smaller chunks as the amount of information found in each chapter could get overwhelming and distracting, but I did not mind walking through the pages at a slower pace. I will be rereading this book, so I can digest the information, examine myself, work on the fire starters, and apply techniques in my own life in order to grow and become a better advocate for myself, re-ignite the embers, and find a more joy filled life. I am thankful to have come across this book in my journey through life.
This was an inspiring read, a chatty and approachable friend of a self help book for those who feel like they've lost themselves a bit. Lots of different approaches and topics are covered so I can see this being a book I dip into again and again. Lots of inspiration to re-find your spark!
Fabulous read - very inspirational and empowering. I will be recommending to everyone who needs a bit of a lift in life or who is struggling.
I loved this book! I think I was feeling a bit negative going into reading it, and was ready to roll my eyes at any advice given, but Rachel Martin writes in such a down to earth way, it was more like having a lovely, kind friend impart advice and wisdom to me. I think different chapters will appeal to a variety of readers. Personally, I was really inspired by the chapters on challenging your perception of what you're capable of.
First of all, I would like to thank the author, Ms. Rachel and NetGalley for sharing an ARC of this book. I really appreciate it. It's been a while since I grabbed an ARC on the site and provided a review.
As an introduction, I don't really read self-help books as most of them feels sugarcoated versions of reality and were too forceful in imposing their way of living. I only looked for one because I'm struggling myself to the point where I don't want to go to work anymore and has been too emotional lately. When I found this book, I only saw few reviews but I the title made me feel that I need this book.
Honestly, this one's too lengthy for me but thank God, I was able to finish it. What I like about it is it was like a snap back to reality and Ms. Rachel was just like a friend who tells her stories and comforts me in some ways. It was like, "this is what happened to me. The same might be good to you. You can do it like this too. Still, it's up to you." She never said her ways were the best or the only way but she shares insights through her life experiences.
Her narrative was never forced. I don't know her personally but I feel like she's just really sharing her life story. For this, I want to thank her for somehow helping me lift a weight on my shoulders and push me to go forward with the things I wanted to do.
It's a good book for those who are lost like me.
I really enjoyed this book, it was very inspiring and empowering. Reading this felt like sitting down and having a chat with a friend and I loved how it didn't feel preachy, it was authentic and genuine. This book will really encourage you to kickstart your life, move forward and find your spark
