Interesting story with some twists along the way. The twists were somewhat predictable, but this was a good, fast paced afternoon read. I like how the author wrapped up everything in the ending.
This is a quick and engaging read that I finished o er the course of a few hours. I didn’t feel that the story matched the title and synopsis at all, though. The story centers primarily on Kim, a young wanna-be actress who takes a role as a personal assistant to a famous actress named Jemima. You get some chapters told from Jemima’s POV as well.
This is an interesting read because nothing really happens for much of it but it reads in a tense manner where I felt like something big would happen at any moment. When the action does take place it happens abruptly but it works after the build up. None of these characters is all that likable but the book is really about playing a role and the things people do for success so I felt that their likability (or lack thereof) was intentional and fit with the story. The ending didn’t exactly tie everything up but I wasn’t dissatisfied with it.
Overall, this was a unique read that was captivating even in the parts where nothing big was happening. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for this Kindle ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
Read in a few hours while babysitting, this is a fast paced mystery that reminds us to be careful what we wish for.
Kim takes a position as an assistant to a famous actress, Jemima Eden. Jemima is dramatic, narcissistic and difficult to please, but Kim plugs on. She has an ulterior motive, she longs to be an actress herself, and feels this may be the first step in the ladder to success.
At first this is a dream job, a peek behind the curtain of luxury and wealth. But, not all is what is seems. As the story progresses we unpack some sinister thrills and devious plots.
Perfect for Freida McFadden lovers, I recommend picking it up when released in September.
A twisty turny thriller with 3 characters taking center stage and creating a complex web of lies and intrigue. You have Kim an aspiring actress, PA to famous actress Jemima Eden, and so want8ng what Jemima has. And then there's George whose Jemimas husband. The 3 get meshed up in a story that was quite riveting, with a surprising ending.

I read this mystery in an afternoon! It was a tension filled, easy read with that keeps you guessing as to who the reliable narrator is and what are their motivations. I am definitely interested in checking out more books by this author! Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher to access to this novel!
Ambition..
Kim, an ambitious wannabe, lands herself an ideal position as assistant to the famous Jemima Eden. She finds herself in a whole new world, soon slipping into Jemima’s persona- living in her shadow, being her shadow. Things are about to change. An unexpected suspense with a clever premise which delivers, a pacy plot and a cast of credible characters. Twists and turns aplenty as the tale leads to a somewhat , perhaps, unexpected denouement.
Kim takes a position as an assistant to the famous actor Jemima Eden. This is a tough gig as Jemima is not an easy person to be around, she is quite reclusive, overly dramatic, and extremely narcissistic.
In the beginning Kim thinks she has fallen on her feet with this role, in the past she has struggled regarding a career moving from job to job and never accomplishing the success which she has craved.
Kim also has dreams of an acting career, and it is through Jemima and her husband George that Kim gets her chance to begin a career she has always wanted. As the book progresses it seems apparent that these two women may be more a like than either of them thinks and what results may bring them closer together, a surprise for both.
The suspense and tension of this mystery along with some twists will keep you reading until the end. Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for an advanced copy.
If you would have asked me before I started the book and solely based on the cover and title, I would have given you a completely different story than the author decided to write. This was a nice surprise.
The author emphasises something that known in real life too: people acting a part. They are not the same people behind closed doors. They can turn the charm on and off depending on their ulterior motives...
I liked the premise, getting a glimpse behind the scenes of the movie world. Actors being diva's, beginning actors trying to find the right contacts to boost their career, manipulation,...
Every character here is out to get something for themselves. Some are more delicate about it than others, but in the end they have the same goal: to get what they want.
Throughout the book, you feel tension building. You just have to wait to find out what is is all about.
Interesting and enjoyable story. 4 stars
Thank you
This is a clever a twisty thriller that is well written and left me wanting more. The twists and turns kept me guessing throughout and I really enjoyed it.
Kim is an ambitious wannabe actress who takes a PA job for superstar Jemima. Jemima is married to creepfest George and everything you expect pretty much happens...
It's creepy and atmospheric but missed the opportunity to really thrill.
No idea why the book is called what it is, that's really confusing.
Thank you to Storm Publishing for gifting me a copy. It is my pleasure to write an honest review.
Thank you to Storm Publishing and Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review .
The other Mrs.Eden by Becky Alexander was definitely an interesting read . The way the author wrote this book was definitely a great way to keep you in interested in the story . I feel like it had the potential to be soo much more engaging with something big happening but feel like it didn’t quite reach that point but that’s not to say that this wasn’t a good book because it definitely is a good quick entertaining read with the suspense and the twists here and there !!
The unique plot had me hooked at the beginning. Who doesn’t love a story about ad successful, yet bitchy actress. Who doesn’t want to know what makes her tick. Wanna be Kim accepts the job of being Jemima’s PA. Their journeys, both difficult and fun are well developed and I enjoyed how the character development throughout the novel. The twist at the end was unexpected, which made it excellent! Thanks to Net Galley for the read!

The Other Mrs. Eden was an exploration of two sides of the same coin in Jemima and Kim, a successful but reclusive actress and a struggling up and coming one, respectively. While billed as a mystery & thriller, and definitely having some mystery tones to it, I found this to be a good book about the grass being greener on the other side and the complexity that exists beneath a placid surface.
Kim is hired on as a PA for actress Jemima, who she bears a passing resemblance to. Struggling with her dream of acting Kim takes advantage of the perks of the job including Jemima’s castoff wardrobe and sneakily makes her home in the basement of Jemima’s mansion. The other massive perk is that Kim quickly builds a friend group and the start of a solid acting career due to her exposure to the business through Jemima. But when she starts getting closer to George, Jemima’s husband, and deeper into Jemima’s life she quickly realizes that things aren’t always as great as they seem from afar.
Solidly written with a very interesting premise, I was unsure if this would go into obsessive thriller category or something more sinister. Ultimately this became a book about support amongst other things. I would read this not for thriller reasons but rather for the suspense of mystery and for a good character study.
Who doesn't love a good thriller
Gripping story tick
Kept me entertained tick
Unputdownable tick
A well rounded book that kept me entertained
Kim and Jemima are two characters who have a lot more depth than what we initially expect especially when it comes to their acting ability. This was a nice, quick and easy read centred on acting, gossip and an impossible job as assistant to an acting diva. I did feel it didn’t quite deliver on what felt so promising early on perhaps because it was marketed as mystery/thriller and I felt like I was kept waiting for action longer than what felt comfortable. The writing itself is captivating and kept me up late reading which is always a good sign. Thanks to Netgalley for providing a copy in exchange for a review.
I thought this was a very clever, extremely well-crafted book that will leave the reader reeling and wondering what the heck is actually going on. I was captivated from almost the first page, and I remained captivated through the entire book, which I flew through in only a couple of days. Becky Alexander is one talented writer, and I'll definitely be on the lookout for more books by her.
Aspiring actress, Kim, lands a job as a personal assistant to famous Jemima Eden. It’s not her dream job, but it will do, and maybe with the Eden’s connections Kim will finally get her big break into show business. Jemima’s life isn’t what Kim had anticipated but Jemima’s husband George makes her job tolerable. Will Kim keep the Eden’s secrets?
I was entertained by the story, and it was not at all what I expected from the title. I found the main characters unlikeable, but the authors writing kept me interested.. A quick read to add to your list.
The Other Mrs. Eden was a quick, entertaining read. I was waiting for something big and exciting to happen, but for me it never really did. I was surprised by the twist near the end, but I wasn't thrilled with the final way things played out. I did like the characters of Kim and Jemima. They were well written, and it was easy to forget they were characters on a page and not real life. I enjoyed the book and would read more by Becky Alexander.
A young girl on her own looking for a job. So instead of becoming an actress she hopes she can work for one. Jemina Eden a diva that has gone through assistants like crazy. Will Kim be able to pull it off. She needs this job so she can get a decent place to live and get a real life.
Well Jemina is a handful she has Kim jumping through hoops. Plus she fires Kim every day. Then there is George Jeminas husband who has something sinister going on. He seems to want to hold Jemina back from working.. He plays on her insecurities and tries to ruin her. What does he plan for Kim? Especially when Kim’s dreams are about to come true.
I truly enjoyed this book. The rich their lives and their secrets. An older diva taking a youngster under her wing.
This books also show the friendship between the women and how they take care of each other in the end.
Thank you Net Galley and storm for the ARC. Thank you Ms. Alexander for a thrilling book. 4.5 stars
I want to thank Storm Publishing for this ARC in exchange for my honest review!
“ But the closer I get to Jemima, the more I realise that her glossy life is just another performance…” OK, I want you to imagine that you’re the assistant to your favorite actress. Now, I want you to imagine that this actress is a moody, egotistical, revered individual who simultaneously seems to be slowly sliding from her Hollywood pedestal and is hellbent on taking you with her on that slide. But what if everything isn’t all that it seems? What if your favorite actress-turned-boss has a whole different side to her that you’ve begun to see, one that is vulnerable and perhaps even… afraid?
Jemima and Kim may seem to have so many differences on the outside but when it all comes down to it, the two are alike. This read was incredibly enjoyable, making it easy to finish in less than a week (busy life schedule and all). The characters were likable and dynamic enough that you could see their growth over time, and the dialogue wasn’t repetitive at all. I do at times wondered more about Kim and her backstory, wishing it had been more fleshed out so we could have got a bit more to her as a character, but it didn’t take too much away from the story not having that.
