Culinary Lifesaver
As someone who juggles work, life, and the occasional cosmic alignment, I wholeheartedly appreciate the magic of budget-friendly, set-it-and-forget-it meals. Here’s why this book resonated with me:
Simplicity Reigns:
The recipes are like a warm hug from your favorite sweater—simple, comforting, and always there when you need them. Minimal ingredients, maximum flavor—that’s the mantra.
Time Travel (Sort Of):
The slow cooker and Instant Pot recipes allow me to bend the space-time continuum. I toss ingredients in the morning, and by evening, dinner is ready. It’s like having a personal chef who whispers, “Relax, I’ve got this.”
Budget-Friendly Bliss:
Let’s talk about the economics of it all. These meals don’t break the bank. They’re like thrifty wizards turning humble ingredients into feasts. Lentils, beans, and root veggies—my wallet nods in approval.
Meal Prep Nirvana:
Batch cooking is my love language. I prep on Sunday, and suddenly, weekday lunches and dinners materialize like magic. No more sad desk salads or last-minute takeout guilt.
Variety Without Stress:
From hearty stews to veggie-packed curries, the book covers a spectrum of flavors. And the best part? I can customize based on what’s in my pantry. Got a lonely sweet potato? Bam! It’s now part of a Moroccan tagine.
Family-Friendly Feasts:
These meals unite generations. Grandma’s pot roast, Mom’s chili, and my own twist on lentil soup—all simmering together. It’s like a family reunion in my kitchen.
In summary, Fix It and Forget It Budget Meals isn’t just a cookbook; it’s a time-saving, wallet-loving, flavor-infused survival guide. So, dust off that slow cooker, set the timer, and let the aroma of practicality fill your home.
I have already tested a few recipes from this cookbook, and my husband has given his approval. I look forward to trying out more and expanding my culinary skills. I wish that each recipe was accompanied by its own photo, as we all love to see the delicious meal in its final form. I also appreciate the author mentioning the sources of these recipes.
Quick, easy and inexpensive? You are speaking my language. As an inexperienced cook but is looking to have more structured meals, this book appealed to me.
First I learned a lot about slow cookers and what you can prepare in them (pancakes, pasta, and ENTIRE chicken!?). I do wish the recipes indicated right away if you need an instant pot.
I loved knowing who created the recipe and where they came from to see what sort of regional influences there might be. Would have liked photos for all the recipes.
Overall a great cookbook to have handy and I will definitely be getting more creative with my crockpot!
I was hoping this book would give me some much-needed recipe inspiration but the lack of photos was a bit of a bummer since I'm very much a visual person when it comes to cookbooks. Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review - pub day is 10/1/24!
There’s no juggernaut like the Fix-it and Forget-it cookbook franchise. Long after you’d think they have covered every possible aspect of cooking, another cookbook pops up! The cookbooks tend to be mediocre, but they’re worth a look for the good recipes that slip into the cookbook.
Or at least that’s how I remembered them. But here editor Hope Comerford has included a lot of great inexpensive recipes for slow cookers and electric pressure cookers. I’m so glad that I got this cookbook!
In the interest of full disclosure, I received this book from NetGalley, Skyhorse Publishing and Good Books in exchange for an honest review.

Make more than 100+ delicious items using the recipes for slow cookers or Instant Pots. I would have liked to see a photo with each recipe, but liked the easy recipes and tasty results.
Great recipes that are very east and budget friendly. I loved this cookbook, and will recommend to all of my family and friends. Lots of the recipes are even older kids/teen friendly! The food tasted and turned out amazing!
So many great recipes to use for your slow cooker! I can't wait to try some of these. I like the layout and recipes are easy to follow
Classic cookbook to have on hand when preparing meals with either slow cookers and instant pots. This cookbook has a variety of recipes for both appliances. Each chapter is separated by meal - soups, breakfast, main dish, sides, etc. I found all the meals to be hearty and “comfort foods”. You may have your own variation of those meals, but it’s always fun to try something new. Almost all the recipes use pantry staples and budget friendly ingredients. This is also a great cookbook for the beginner, with a comparison of slow cookers and instant pots, pros and cons of both appliances, size comparisons, serving suggestions, and great beginner tips..
This is a book every kitchen should have. With quick and easy recipes using some of your kitchens appliances (I do love using my slow cooker) this is a book that will get you in the kitchen and it will make you realise you can make great meals at home easily and on a budget. There are also some great hints and tips and any from beginner to experienced cook can and will use this book I'm sure.
Thank you NetGalley and Skyhorse Publishing for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
A special thank you to Netgalley and Skyhorse publishing for the chance to preview this cookbook in exchange for my honest review. I am a fan of the fix it and forget it line of cookbooks so this was right up my alley. The fact that these are budget meals, was a bonus! I most certainly will be trying a few of these recipes and if they are as good as they sound, I will purchase copy for my collection. I will rate this at 4 stars for the tasty sounding recipes but may increase to 5 if they taste as good as they look on paper.
Who knew you could bake a cake in a slow cooker? As a mom of two young girls this book is perfect recipes for easy tasty meals that don’t break the bank. I really liked all the explanations in the beginning of different settings and ways to use the instant pot and crockpot. I have both and didn’t know all of the settings. This book was easy to read and I can’t wait to try some of the recipes!
Love this series and already own a few cookbooks. This is a quick and easy cookbook that would add some variety to dinner time in a budget friendly way.
I am always looking for a good cookbook of recipes that I can make and forget especially with two children in sports and always going to nephews sports. We are very busy so thank you for this awesome book!
This is an excellent cookbook with a good variety of dishes and meals that truly are low budget. I do not have an instant pot, but I do have a crockpot and love to use it and have marked up several of these recipes to try for me and my husband. The beginning of the book has several pages of good suggestions and tips and tricks for cooking and using the instant pot and the crockpot.
Thanks to NetGalley, the author and publisher for an advanced reading copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I enjoy looking at these cookbooks, mainly for the pictures and inspiration, though I find the recipes to be lacking. I was reminded of a cheesy, broccoli rice dish I used to make and my mother's Coney sauce.
Did you know that there are differences in crockpots? This cookbook provides a detailed account of the different crockpots as well as instapots which are not just plug in and toss in. This provides many different recipes to be cooked in either device and some unique ideas. With food prices on the rise and time being eaten up by other priorities this cookbook provides recipes that will cook while you do something else and ensure you don't toss out ingredients but utilize for a wonderful meal. Thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity.
Nice cookbook. Easy to follow instructions. Nice pictures. I’m sure I’ll be making some of these. A few were already favorites of mine that I make often.
I appreciated the detailed discussion on how to choose the best slow cooker /pressure cooker for your needs. The recipes sounded yummy and contained very detailed instructions.
