This one was so cute! I can always count on Sarah Adams for a sweet and enjoyable read. I loved the first book in this series so I was excited to revisit this cute town. June and Ryan were delightful. I loved their banter, pranks, and their overall cuteness together. There were so many laugh out loud moments, and the writing was engaging. This book was narrated by Connie Shabshab and Will Danrom, and they both did an excellent job. I would recommend the audio for this one.

Read if you enjoy:
✔️Second chance
✔️Dual POV
✔️Enemies to lovers
✔️Top notch banter
✔️Nick Lachey
✔️Pranks

This book was pretty funny and a great read. The characters June and Ryan were on point, both pining away for each other since high-school but only now as adults have the maturity yo work it out. The banter was good and at points I was just smiling, it was goofy and funny. And to top it all you have a hot guy who can cook, yes please!!!

The narration was done very well. Both narrators were clearly having a blast reading their characters.

To read and review.

Book 2 in Sarah Adam’s It Happened in Charleston series has had an edit and some bonuses thrown in. Rereleasing on Aug 6.

Expect 👉🏼 Enemies (rivals) to Lovers, Mutual Pining, Closed Door, Family Shenanigans

When Ryan waltzes back into June’s life she is ready to make him jealous with her success. Only for her to realize he is successful in his own right. And also insanely attractive. The animosity that was always present in their high school rivalry comes back with full force.

This was cute. I enjoyed the rivalry between the two. There were a few awkward moments that made me chuckle. Ryan becoming a man on a mission was my favorite part.

The narration was great. I really enjoyed both narrators.

The Enemy
Sarah Adams
Re-Release: August 6, 2024

Thank you @netgalley and @dreamscapemedia for the #gifted audiobook!

I have not read a Sarah Adams book I haven’t liked so far. However, this was not one of my favorites by her. I listened to the audiobook for The Match last month and really loved it. However, some of the actions of the main characters struck me as slightly childish. Also - for how close and tight knit their family is I had a hard time believing she would keep the secret to her cancelling her wedding to herself. Not saying it couldn’t happen I just wasn’t really buying it.

With all that being said I did love some of June, the FMCs, inner monologue. I feel like I’ll never forget the line she uses to describe her party dress. “The mullet of dresses, if you will.”
I really enjoyed the moment June and Ryan reconnected. The banter was so fun.

June and Stacey’s close friendship was another huge plus in this book. I will always love when a book has good female friendships represented!

Narration was done by Connie Shabshab and Will Damron. They both did such a fantastic job on this book. Will Damron is quickly becoming one of my favorite male narrators.

Read if you like:
🍩Enemies to Lovers
🍩Secret Attraction
🍩Strong Female Friendship

I adore all things Sarah Adams, and this one was no different. The story is perfection, the audio is wonderful. I loved it.

Sarah Adams never fails to make me laugh out loud and brighten my day. Her books are pure sunshine. Are they deep, introspective musings on the meaning of life with multi-layered characters? No, but they are FUN and that works just fine for me.

THE ENEMY was originally published in 2020 and is being released again with a bonus chapter. Yay! That’s a win for Sarah Adams fans everywhere. It features::
💗 second chance
💗 enemies (sort of) to friends to lovers
💗 pranks as a love language
💗 banter, banter, banter

Are the characters a bit juvenile? Sure. Did I care? No, because I read this book for sheer entertainment and entertain me it did. It’s the second book in the It Happened in Charleston series, but is truly a standalone novel. The narrators, Connie Shabshab and Will Damron, brought the characters to life.

Thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the opportunity to listen to an advance copy in exchange for my unbiased review.

I really liked the first book in this series but this was felt so forced! The interactions between the main characters was so juvenile and ridiculous. I could barely finish it which was a huge disappointment because The Match was so good! I've really enjoyed most of this author's books so I think this was just a one off for me.

Thanks to NetGalley and the author for a review copy!

This enemies to lovers romance reveals a past hurt that needs to be resolved and the challenges along the way. There is delicious talk of food as both of their careers revolve around cooking/baking and I would suggest having a snack handy as you read. It's closed door, but the chemistry shines through and you can't help but cheer these two on as they try to find their happy ending. The audiobook is a great way to enjoy this romantic comedy.

Thank you to NetGalley, Sarah Adams & Dreamscape Media for an audio ARC in exchange for an honest review. This review is wholly my own & may not be reproduced.

Everything Sarah Adams writes is gold. She is one of my favorite Rom-Com authors and she hit the mark again with The Enemy. Although, I didn’t enjoy this one QUITE as much as I did The Match – still a solid read, though.

This is an enemies-to-lovers trope with June & Ryan both having secret crushes on each other in high school (and after), but thinking the other hated them, they were vicious to each other. Now, it’s 12 years later & they are forced together for their best friends’ wedding. June is ready to get even, but fate has something else in store.

While the story & characters were enjoyable, this one was missing the magic that The Match had. This one was just pretty standard & nothing special.

High school enemies are thrust back into each other’s orbits as adults when they serve as the best man and maid of honor at their best friends’ wedding. After years of radio silence between the two of them, June is pretty confident that she can one-up Ryan, but, much to her dismay, he has aged better than she expected.

There’s just something comforting about a book by Sarah Adams. I read the original version of this one years ago, and it still holds up for me. This version has been revised and includes a bonus epilogue.

Read this one for
- The banter
- The long-term pining
- The food descriptions
- The pranks
- How Ryan plays the long game

This time around I listened to the audiobook. I enjoyed Connie Shabshab’s and Will Damron’s voices for June and Ryan. This audiobook has dual narration.

I received an advance copy of the audiobook from Dreamscape Media and NetGalley. All review opinions are my own.

I want to start this by saying I LOVED the first book in this series, The Match! I loved the narrators for both! I had high hopes for this book, but just wasn’t crazy about the characters. I didn’t feel the tension building up from the enemies to lovers. The overall premise was cute, but it just fell a bit flat for me. This is the only Sarah Adams book that has been a miss for me so far, so I will definitely not stop reading her books!

love Sarah Adams! So I jumped at the opportunity to snag an advanced listening copy of her revised and republished backlist title. The two main characters have some chemistry and fun banter. But I didn’t love this one as much as her other titles. Maybe it’s just that she has improved so much with each additional book she has written. Don’t get me wrong this was a fun book and easy to read. But I didn’t love the characters as much, and the enemies to lovers just didn’t have enough enemy to it. The story is written is dual POV, and the audio version had dual narration as well. I like the male narrator fine but I did not the female narrator at all. I found June’s character a bit annoying and the narrator only amplified that feeling.
Rating: Just OK

I love this book but the narrators kinda didn’t do it for me. Won’t re listen but I’ll re read. The male narrator sounded like a small child when he did the woman voice

*3.5 Stars On My Instagram Account*

"What are you thinking right now?"
"Which kitchen utensil I am going to use to kill you!"

"Ryan is a wrecking ball in my life. He rolled into town and crashed right through my walls."

"Torture has always been one of our favorite games."

Oh these two kids, Ryan and June, they made me a bit crazy! This audiobook should be titled misconstrued enemy since only June considers them enemies, and even then, it's only because she feels rejected by Ryan. Still, The Enemy, by RomCom author Sarah Adams, is a sweet fun tale of romance.

June is a baker and for 12 years she has lived with Ryan as a bad memory. Growing up with him always teasing her, playing pranks on her and then leaning in for a kiss and leaving her with puckered lips and no kiss. After a disastrous engagement June will never be vulnerable again.

Ryan is in town for a mutual friend's wedding. He's hoping to see his June Bug. He loved their pranks. Now a famous chef, the hustle and bustle of his celebrity has worn him down. He's shocked to learn June thinks he hates her, he thought the teasing, the torturing one another was their love language.

Voice actor Will Damron brings his natural sweetness and sincerity to Ryan, who is just a boy with a crush who pulls the girl's pigtails in school. Voice actress Connie Shabshab brought to life June's vulnerability about her heartbreaks, weight and all her self doubt.

June's hilariously self defacing but there's a bit of immaturity in her actions. A few times I yelled, "Grow up already!"

With a nod to everything Nick Lachey, and the importance of communicating, this first person dual POV leaves you hungry for donuts and wishing for a 98 Degrees reunion.

I loved listening to this cheesy little enemies to lovers book. These two were in high school together and spent a lot of time annoying one another, but it turns out they both wanted to get together.
Anyway, they do get together in the book. Very romantic and fun. Loved the narration.

Thank you to Dreamscape Media and netgalley for this ALC in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this book! This enemies/rivals to lovers gave me all of the swoon worthy and funny banter all while being closed door! I love Sarah Adams and her writing. This sequel to The Match was absolutely fabulous. I finished it and wanted more story! I am so excited to continue reading my way through Sarah Adams books. The enemy had equal parts banter, pining and romance. The narrators of this book were wonderful and it made me truly feel the banter and romance between the two characters. This is one I will be rereading.

LOVE. LOVE. LOVE.

Absolutely adorable book. This was such a fun and quick read. The characters were witty and entertaining. The pranks they play in eachother are dorky and cute. I hope a book 3 will be coming soon.

This was an enemies to lovers romcom about two high school enemies that reunited after 12 years for their mutual friend’s wedding.

I really enjoyed this one! It had the perfect amount of slow burn and push and pull between June and Ryan and I’m an absolute sucker for the he falls first trope. The banter, jokes and pranks were perfect and it just felt like such a cosy read. Honestly, Sarah Adams can’t write a bad book. She nails the closed door romances every time and makes her characters feel so real and relatable.

📖 The Enemy by Sarah Adams (7/6 re-release)
🎙️ Connie Shabshab & Will Damron (narrators)

📚 book 2 • It Happened in Charleston series (definitely can be read as a standalone)

⭐️ rating: 4/5
😘 spice: kissing only

June & Ryan had me cracking up with their pranks & antics. I felt so much for June and her insecurities, and loved the support she got from Ryan.

I would have loved more of Jake (June’s brother), Evie & Sam, probably cause I loved the Match so much 😅 I know it wasn’t their book, but I miss them!

read if you love:
🎓 high school enemies-ish to lovers
(reconnecting 12 years later)

🧁 a donut bakery owner fmc (June) who has a “one date rule” - no second dates unless she wants to spend forever with someone

👨‍🍳 a renowned Michelin chef mmc (Ryan) - a man determined to get a second date (and more) with June!

💍 wedding setting - their best friends are getting married - bringing them into forced proximity

🥹 mutual pining - they always secretly had feelings for each other, but “hated” each other instead

💞 dual 1st person pov
