After listening to this, The Match and The Enemy are two of my all time favorite interconnected stories. While they can be read as stand-alones, I adored hearing about the two characters from The Match (also can we talk about that cameo in the bonus epilogue?) The Enemy had an extra layer of angst in it, likely due to June’s trauma from her past relationship, and it was conveyed perfectly through the narration. Easy 5 stars. I found comfort in June overcoming her anxiety of relationships.

First of all, loved the narration. The funny quirky side of June and Ryan were perfectly done by the narrators. It was so fun to listen to the audiobook.
Their banter was fun, also the internal monologues and conversations made me smile/laugh at some places.
Apart from the second hand embarrassments and cringe from June's side it was a pretty good one. I felt June was immature and quirky, in a way I am not a fan of. Ryan was one big green forest. I mean the way he understands and supports her was just awesome. I loved that there was no miscommunication. The friendship and family dynamics was so good. I love June's mom and sisters, and how they were so protective of her.
There was tension, but no explicit spice scenes. I liked the plot, overall a good cute romance.

In this rereleased edition of The Enemy, June is dreading coming face to face with her high school nemesis Ryan at their best friends’ wedding. She owns a successful bakery but Ryan is a renowned Michelin star chef and their rivalry is still strong after all these years. However, the tension quickly turns to attraction and pining when they are forced to work together to cook for the wedding.

I read the original book on Kindle Unlimited a few years ago, and jumped at the opportunity to listen to the revamped version on audiobook. It was narrated by Connie Shabshab and Will Damron, and I truly enjoyed the dual narration. It made it easy to know whether June or Ryan was narrating the story and added a lot of humor to their conversation and banter. I loved the audio version even more this time around so I highly recommend checking it out even if you’ve already read the book!

Sarah Adams writes charming, funny, and oh so sweet rom coms. They are closed door romances and her male characters are some of the best, in my opinion! If you enjoy humor, slightly petty pranks, enemies to lovers, and Nick Lachey (iykyk), you should definitely pick this one up! There is also a fun bonus epilogue that includes a cameo of a character from a more recent series.

Thank you to Sarah Adams and Dreamscape Media for the ALC and opportunity to be an early reviewer.

June is living her best life she has a successful bakery selling the best donuts and living with her “one date rule.” That is until her High School nemesis Ryan Henderson shows up as a groomsman for her best friends fiancé for their upcoming wedding. Now forced to spend time with Ryan, June quickly is forced to admit she never hated him after all. In fact, she’s been pining for him since she was 12.

My thoughts: I really enjoyed this one, with a few laugh out loud moments. Naked in dressing rooms, and morning mustaches. There were definitely times when I was rolling my eyes at the pettiness of June, but I think that comes with the territory of an enemies to lovers troupe. I really loved the narrators in the audiobooks, and I love a good hers/his point of view.

Read this if you’re a sucker for:
* Enemies to lovers
* Multiple points of view
* Laugh out loud moments
* Donuts

Overall, this was a fun and cute romcom. Was it a bit cheesy? Yes, but that’s what I love about Sarah Adams writing! June (FMC) acted a bit immature for her age if she had been aged down a bit it wouldn’t have bothered me as much. I loved Ryan (MMC), and his nickname for June was June Bug…so cute!

June had some insecurities and trauma from previous relationships and felt it was written into the story well because her trauma didn’t disappear as soon as her and Ryan got together. This was a fun, quick and easy read if you like closed door romances! I loved the epilogue and the bonus epilogue! I would recommend this to everyone, including those who have already read it. The bonus content is so cute!

I loved audiobook one, The Match, and had high hopes for this one. Though it didn’t meet my expectations, it was cute.
June Broaden owns a bakery with her best friend, who is about to get married.
Ryan Henderson , nowadays a well known chef, is in town for the wedding. It’s been twelve years , yes twelve years since she’s seen him . He’s the one that she considered a bully in HS, unaware that he had a crush on her.
As they get to know each other again, feelings develop. The banter between them was cute, and the story was light, predictable with a little comedy thrown in.
This audiobook is perfect when you are looking something for an afternoon of leisure.
I was entrusted a copy of this audiobook by Netgalley and Dreamscape. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

I love Sarah Adams and her closed door romances! This is book 2 in a series, though you do not need to read book 1 to read this one. There is just a previous character mentioned from book 1 in this one. This one had good chemistry between the two main characters and I really enjoyed the rivalry between the two of them. I think this is being republished from a while ago, so I will say her writing style has definitely improved in her newer works, but I still enjoyed this one. I loved the narrator as she did a fabulous job narrating the female lead. Looking forward to the final book in this series!

Childhood rivals forced back together after 12 years for their best friends wedding. Ryan may have won the battle back then but June is dead set on winning the war. She’s a strong, successful woman with her own thriving business and plans on rubbing that fact in his ugly face. There’s one problem, Ryan is hot and has grown into quite the catch over the past decade and is pursuing her. This has to be some sick game, his interest is nothing but a continuation of the games they played in high school... right? Of course its a game, a game called war and this time she’ll win.

I love Sarah Adams, she’s an incredible writer and one of my go closed door romance authors but unfortunately this was not it. The idea is great but I couldn’t stand the fmc and it ruined my entire reading experience. I was hoping for a compelling enemies to lovers storyline and what I got was a fmc unwilling to grow up.

June was engaged and found out that her fiancé was cheating the week of the wedding. She called it off and has sworn of relationships ever since, that was 5 years ago. Her commitment issues are valid but her behavior is not. Acting like a teenager at 30 isn’t normal and frankly I feel bad for Ryan. He’s all in and shes still holding a grudge from their teens and runs at the slightest sign of him getting to close. By the end I was pulling my hair, he’s giving up everything to be with her and she has the nerve to leave him over and over. No thanks.

Junes family is incredible, I fell in love with her brother in the first book in the series and her mother is such a gem. Their conversations and family events are the highlights of this book in my opinion. The narrators are pleasant to listen to and I got thru it really fast.

This one wasn’t for me unlike lol the other books I’ve read by Sarah Adams. If you want to check this author out I highly recommend When in Rome and The rule book.

I really wanted this to be enjoyable especially but the synopsis sounded too good to be true and I should have known.

𐙚 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙄 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚𝙙:
Honestly the general plot was a good idea. I think this book had A LOT of potential be good. Two high school “enemies” being reunited after 12 years for their best friend’s wedding? This could have been so good.

The narrators did an amazing job with this book and bringing some sort of life into these otherwise boring characters. I genuinely think the fact that I was able to be read the story is the only reason I didn’t dnf it.

𐙚 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙄 𝙙𝙞𝙙𝙣’𝙩 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚:
I genuinely cannot stand romance books that claim to be enemies to lovers when it’s just miscommunication and they secretly liked one another from the very beginning. It just completely takes away from the term “enemies” you guys aren’t enemies y’all just can’t communicate. It would have made SO MUCH more sense if they were academic or sports enemies / rivals.

June is the more immature 30 year old I’ve ever had to read about. She’s also the most embarrassing main character I’ve ever had to read. I wish I was joking, but we first meet June in a bathroom stall begging passers by the bring her toilet paper since her stall is out. She even goes as far as to offer a lipstick to anyone who would help. After not seeing her “enemy” in 12 years her first go to action is to shove her accomplishments in his face only to find out he’s more successful. I cannot think of a 30 year old that I know that would personally behave like this.

Truly I feel bad for Ryan, he seems a bit more mature and grown up compared to her and I just can’t see how they work as a couple at all. I didn’t feel the romance at all, it felt more like watching children bicker.

The epilogue and bonus epilogue were completely useless. Like I feel like they were only there to prove they could last long term and I still wasn’t convinced lol.

The Enemy is a pretty misleading title for this book, but it is a cute sweet romance.

We follow June and Ryan, who have known each other since high school. They reunite because their best friends are getting married. They obviously both like each other, but pretend to be enemies and pick at each other like kids on a playground. Then shocker, they end up together.

I think I would like this book better if it wasn't billed as enemy-to-lovers when that is so clearly not what is happening. They are very much not enemies. Also I just found June to be a pretty annoying FMC. I love that she owns her own business, but a lot of the time she read more like a 15 year old than an actual adult. And that ending... *eye roll*

I am always picky with the enemies to lovers trope, but Sarah Adams delivered in this delightful rom com about two high school rivals that reunite for their mutual best friends’ wedding. I absolutely loved their chemistry, all the pranks, the wedding shenanigans and Nick Lachey mentions. Plus the fact that they had so much history brought an extra layer to their relationship. A really fun listen on audio!

Super cute characters, she lifted her chin and he didn’t kiss her started an enemies rivalry that’s lasted years. I like this updated new bonus chapters. Has many fun pranks and easy humor. A light fun read.

3.5⭐️
This was another really cute and light rom-com from Sarah Adams! As always, the writing is really fun and upbeat, and I did really enjoy the audiobook narration. However, I did find that the characters seemed a bit immature/childish, and I was hoping for something a bit deeper. I did like the bonus epilogue that featured a fun character cameo from another series. Overall, I did prefer The Match, but this was still a nice palette cleanser.

This is the second book of the “It Happened in Charleston” series, but it can definitely be read as a standalone.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this ALC in exchange for my honest review.

Well Sarah knocked this one out of the park with the one liners and ALL THE FREAKING FEELS. Simmering underneath all that rage, is that thread of tension that you know one day is going to just snap. June and Ryan are arch nemesis’ but their best friends getting married is bringing them back together after 12 years and it only takes one look to know that there is so much unfinished business left between these two.

They are both in the food industry (she owns a donut shop and he’s a famous chef) so bonus points there too, but the real *chef’s kiss* here is the way that they have pined over one another for years. Mostly Ryan, because OH MY GAH. 🥰

This, this right here is what I want to read. Real people, real lives, real messy love.
